  • Homemade RF Detector 2. Much cheaper and easier than you may think For Under $5 ! A simple description is that IN34 or IN34A Germanium Diodes for Crystal Radio can take "Ambient" RF or "Radio Waves" to turns them into DC energy. I made an homemade "RF Detector" this is the simplest detector! without any batteries or hardships circuit, only with four IN34 diodes and two ceramic disc capacitors...

Very nice! I was wondering though if it is too sensitive to fine where RF is dropping out in a circuit board?
If it is how could you tone it down some maybe with variable resistor? Where would you put it?

Dear George - Is adapting this detector on the external antenna of 2G, 3G and 4G able to improve the signal reception gain? I'm in Brazil and I need to increase the cellular signals from my antennas on my farm. In my house I have the repeater, but I need to improve the reception of the signal ... What would be your opinion? Best Regards

why have two diodes in series instead of just one diode, in each direction ?

Will it work, if I use it with a little spiral antenna?

    1. which is better, use ceramic disc capacitor or not ?
    2. if not use tesla, are led is light up ? how many diode if not use tesla to light up the led ?

Thanks man. I did one using Schottkys and worked fine. Now I'm scared because my fluorescent bulbs skyrocketed my voltmeter.

the radios that you test the circuit is HighPower 5Wat Crystal Talkie walkie. by other sources will not work properly, how ever, Thanks

Nice work - I have built an RF sniffer from simple basic parts with almost random values - it worked The challenge is that it detects RF flux with high dBm value at decent distance (originating from Family Radio) and the case will be different when detecting low RF flux values. Unless an RF amplifier is used then those small RF fluxes will have issue being detected. See my RF sniffer on my channel.

i can't find 1n34 in my place, can i substitute with germanium diode 1n60?
    thank you

1N60 could be fake, it is not even germanium the fake one, measure voltage to check.
      silicon (0.6~.7) germanium (.2~.3)

Use the Tesla coil. There is a good material removal capacity with the capacitor
