      35k views, I can handle apologizing again to the few you who cared enough to mention the focus problems. All apologies. You could also help us creators by contacting youtube direct and ask them why creators aren't allowed to edit or update video uploads, then this issue wouldn't exist along with many others of different types. We try, thanks for noticing. ;)

    My diode laser just had a wire go bad making it unusable- the jst connectors fried and partially melted in one spot, the wires easily broke off just handling them. They're replacing the cable but it's going to take a couple weeks to get here so I ordered a small kit in order to repair the current wire myself. This video gave me all the tips I need in order to feel confident doing the job- thanks for it!

    Thanks for the tutorial! Two questions if you don't mind. First, will this work with thin wires like 26-30AWG? Second, is there a way to do this without a dedicated tool?

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Місяць тому +1

      yes, JSTs are sized by gauge of wire. And yes, I suppose you could do it with a couple of pairs of needle nose pliers, but I haven't the patience, eyesight, nor nimble fingers for such tedious work lol

    HI, thank you for your video. Please any ideas how to wire the JST SUR 0.8mm connector? It seems it does not need any crimping.

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  10 місяців тому +1

      that's a good question, according to digikey -it says "the mating housing has crimps", but doesn't say much about attaching wires except "have poke contactors", which sound to me like just wiring piercing connections, like a ribbon cable maybe. Sorry I don't know anything more about these particular JSTs:

  • @TortoiseRobotics

    Very helpful, but why do some JST-XH connectors have 3 ground wires and 1 red/hot wire? Would it affect anything if I solder all three ground wires to a single ground wire on another connector type of pigtail? I want to make a temporary cable that is JST-XH (three ground & one red) to a barrel plug (one ground & one red).

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  7 місяців тому +1

      JST themselves don't have designation of wire - so whatever device you're working on did it that way for a reason. I probably wouldn't do that without tracing each ground to be sure they are the same voltage line to start with. Otherwise, if they are all the same, it shouldn't be an issue to tie them together.

      yes, I realize that and apologize. I wish youtube would let us edit / replace videos - I would reshoot it. :( To "fix" it, I would have to repost a new video and delete this one - I'd rather not do that. :(

      I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but enjoyed your video and agree about the focus. I note the black dimensions on the die were in focus the entire time. Maybe a small silver object against a black background might be better for focus because of the contrast? Only constructive criticism as I loved the video - was exactly what I was hoping to find and found your presentation/time excellent. Looking forward to future videos.

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Рік тому

      y splitter? do I do that somewhere? lol the hood sensors maybe? Anyway, all you have to do is splice the wires, not try and get multiple wires into the connector pins - that's not possible.

    Hey Chris i have a Hubsan 980mah pack with a regular battery lead and a red JST lead that plugs into my H123D Jet. The negative wire (Black)has separated from the pack at the point where the factory solders the wire to the pack. How can i fix this problem because this pack is still good and has lots of life in it? Thanks for your reply!

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  11 місяців тому

      sure, you can use whatever technique you'd like - the JST connectors just make it easier to remove the head, tail, and top covers when needed. But if you are using the PCB, it may not be easy to skip using those JSTs, unless you're going to solder directly to JST pads on PCB.

    • @NN13K0
      @NN13K0 2 роки тому +1

      No because then you would have 3 pieces of exposed metal nearly touching (if not actually touching) each other, shorting whatever you are working on (because they won't fit into a secure connector).
