    Very impressed with the care and attention of the repair crew in minimising collateral damage to the yard and gardens. A very professional job 😃👌👌👌👏👏👏

    It's interesting to see a three phase line, if that is what it is, run through a neighborhood like that, on top of all the heavy vegetation. Most of the lines where I live that run through residential neighborhoods look to be single phase and low profile to help circumvent any possible damage from nearby trees.

    • @josephbarbaritz1475

      Further Down the line The other phases will probably drop off, watching poles near me, A & B may reach capacity then C continue until capacity reached. For all we know, there is business district at the end of street being fed.

      You see all 3 Phase because some customer(s) need 3ph Power, down your Lead. Second, it could be part of the 3ph Circuit before it drop on to Single ph.
      Good observation but it is not rare.

    I'm surprised they used the "foam" to secure the pole. Packed soil does just fine in most places.

    • @dougdiplacido2406
      @dougdiplacido2406 3 роки тому

      Packed soil settles, the foam gets hard as a rock and does not settle so the pole will stay firm in place.

    • @freethinkingamerican80
      @freethinkingamerican80 3 роки тому

      We used the soil all the time but also used pole foam. Some utilities don't like using the old dirt. I personally like pole foam myself.

    Hi, everybody!
    I have a question: why do you usually use wood pole and no concrete pole?
    Thanks!

    • @Engineer9736
      @Engineer9736 6 років тому +1

      Dinomarques Alves Probably cost. And wood looks better too i think.

    • @danfromga3002
      @danfromga3002 5 років тому +1

      Concrete poles take a lot more effort to set.. More money, more time, more resources = not cost efficient

    • @imadewn
      @imadewn 5 років тому

      Depending on the region and weather. In the tropical regions it's quite hard to source trees for pole such as douglas fir, lodgepole pine, jack pine. In tropical area, wood poles ages very quickly. Thats why we use mostly concrete and steel poles.

      Telephone and cable companies needs to hammer their hooks into the poles to hang their lines on. Concrete makes this much more difficult, would need to pre-drill first. Also, I guess that when concrete starts to crack, it tends to fall appart a lot more easily than wood, and if a wooden pole's structural integrity isn't in good shape, it's easy to verify (sounds hollow when you hammer it, and a screwdriver will go through the pole base easily). But that's just my guesses.

    I notice the insulators are set in from the ends of the arm. Wonder why that is instead of using the outermost positions?

    • @thewanderingoutsider4237
      @thewanderingoutsider4237 3 роки тому

      I think because the span of the conductor is a lot smaller than the span of arm.

    • @djscrizzle
      @djscrizzle 3 роки тому

      Old lines have slimmer frameouts. Ive seen 4 ft arms in use on the distribution lines for primary, typically 7.2kv or less.

      I've seen digging machines of late that use a high-pressure jet of water to loosen the soil, while a large vacuum sucks the soil up into the excavation truck. Perhaps these are used instead of augers where there is the potential to damage existing underground utilities without having to resort to hand digging?

    • @lumberwhack6294

    i wonder if that is the machine they used to replace a transformer in my neighbors backyard by his fence i think the transformer shown in this video is similar to the one that used to be on a pole well till one of the hots snapped that went to 1 or 2 houses i felt bad for them linemen who repaired the line and replace the fuse for it to blow again and i guess that is when they seen the transformer had failed the same pole is still there i believe but not the transformer i think they worked till around 3 or 4 am before everything was done

      $$$$$$$$ they probably got premium pay , regardless of the pay it is actually very rewarding to any true lineman to be able to restore power to a neighborhood as soon as timely possible.

    What steps are different when it is not an emergency, such as nice weather and allowed enough time for utility locating services to get out to the site and winds/lightning have passed. Where is the emergency?

    • @garynelson9538
      @garynelson9538 2 роки тому

      @Kara, I’m not from this Utility, I’m a Lineman from Mich. When the Power Comp say Emergency, they are saying “Someone is out of power” until we make repairs. The job can’t wait until the next day. To the Utility, it’s just another “Trouble Job”. The Steps in repair are not different between Emergency, Trouble and Planned Jobs. And speaking of weather, most of our Emergency (Trouble ) work is done in bad weather. Also when customers are without power, waiting on Locating Services is not an option. Waiting will take too long, so we dig the hole by hand. After 20 yrs of digging, my shoulders and elbows are absolutely destroyed by this procedure.
      Hope I was helpful with your questions.

  • @confidentlocal8600

    So ... what happens to the old one? Why not remove the old one and place the new pole in the same spot? Especially if the easement is narrow.

    • @garynelson9538
      @garynelson9538 2 роки тому +1

      @confident, the machine they’re using is not rated for the stress of pulling a pole out the ground. After the new Pole is set, they will often dig below the old Pole and then cut it below ground level. There is a contraption to drag back there to pull the Old Pole Butt out the ground once you cut the Old Pole, but it weighs a ton and often workers get hurt(shoulders and back) while handling it, especially in the cold.

    Why do you have power lines at the back of the homes? Where in most countries all power lines are in front of the homes, which would be much easier to get to, than going through peoples backyards.

    • @freethinkingamerican80
      @freethinkingamerican80 3 роки тому

      Engineers designed it that way? Maybe one set of the homes wasn't originally there then they built? Could be a few different reasons I'd reckon.
