- The Vancouver Recital Society's Founder & Artistic Director, Leila Getz, speaks with Rachel Fenlon. Rachel is a soprano and pianist who is finding a unique voice on the classical music stages of the world. Drawing from a singer-songwriter approach, Rachel performs song recitals as both singer and pianist accompanying herself.
In addition to her work as a performer, Rachel writes poetry - she has been awarded writing grants from the Canada Council and Ontario Arts Councils for her poetry and will release her debut collection in the coming year. Rachel is the co-founder of the Berlin artist collective CROWN THE MUSE - a production, and commissioning body for musical projects, which has collaborations with stage director Bruno Ravella, and the dance company Ne.Sans under the direction of choreographer Idan Cohen.
Rachel and Leila discuss her career journey from Vancouver to Berlin, her artistic practice as a self-accompanied singer, and her upcoming VRS performance, at which she will perform Schubert's Der Winterreise.
Rachel Fenlon will perform at the Vancouver Playhouse on Sunday, September 8, 2024. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit: vanrecital.com...

I greatly enjoyed Leila Getz's talk with Rachel Fenlon. Rachel is a wonderful performer, already so in her UBC days. I remember her singing the role of Pamina moving me and others to tears.
We won't miss her performance of the Winterreise.
