Love your cardigan, the colours suit you so well. I think a grey button could look quite good as it wouldn’t compete with the flower colours. Thanks for another lovely episode.
I've done that before! I feel a little nervous about stressing this single-ply yarn tho. I usually do some reinforcing around the hole so that might help.
Love the cardigan, would definitely choose the larger buttons, the smaller ones look a little lost. I am wanting to knit one of these, so thanks for sharing. I would also like to knit the April cardigan too, so many knots ,too little time 😂❤x
For your cardigan, I would put buttons on it to have the option to close it, but I would use buttons that are as close as possible to the colour of the band, so they disappear and don’t distract from the flowers. Beautiful cardigan by the way! Have a great time away. Socks are the perfect travel project for me
There seems to be growing support for a gray button. I've now narrowed down my projects to a sock project, a shawl (still dithering on which pattern), and a Sophie scarf for the flight over. Then I think I'll copy out another sock pattern in case I "need" one. Thanks for watching!
Kathy, I’m enjoying all of your information on the Pressed Flowers cardi! I’m planning on making the hat-my next project! I agree with you about having buttons, they will finish it-I think for my taste I would choose a grey color close to your main color and let those beautiful flowers shine for themselves! Lovely job!🌸🌷🌼
Thanks for sharing your process for the pressed flowers shawl….this is in my queue so your suggestions really helped. I actually like the idea of a smaller button so they don’t distract from the beautiful pattern and your beautiful knitting. Have a wonderful trip!
I am so excited for you! Thank you for all the info on the pressed flowers cardigan which is lovely - perfect. It is on my list of things to make which is long. I agree, the "colours suit you so well." AND the Derecho top is also lovely.....the two look very nice together. I am hopeful you stay well all through your trip and after. Looking forward to hearing all about it. I know you'll be safe. 🧶
Love your new pressed flowers cardigan, if you have warmer weather you may not need buttons. Your trip to Ireland sounds wonderful - stay healthy- looking forward to your return
Your cardigan is one of the prettiest I’ve seen. I’m working on this pattern and have started over several times. I am not giving up. I like your yarn choices. Your video is encouraging and helpful. Thank you!
Hi Kathy! This was my first time coming across your podcast, and it was absolutely delightful! Your pressed flowers cardigan is just stunning and suits you so well! I love the contrast yarn colour that you chose. 😍
Enjoy your time in Ireland. If you are in Cork, check out Yarn Vibes. I bought a mitten pattern along with some Irish wool there. Recently wore the mittens near Antarctica and my hands were not cold. We also loved Studio Donegal and spent time talking with the owner Tristan Douglass who was a wealth of information. I bought a sweaters worth of the Donegal tweed and made the Felix sweater. Turned out lovely. We bought a couple of his blankets and they are works of art. He told us about how he took the inspiration for the design from nature. I know the Woolly Thistle sells his blankets now too. Thank you for your podcast and recommendations. You are an amazing inspiration. I’m want to try the presses flower cardigan now.
Kathy, I love your pressed flowers sweater! It turned out great. I think I am going to give the pullover a try, as a newer sweater knitter, I like knitting top down sweaters. I don’t mind learning so that is not a deterrent for me. I googled three skein or three colour shawls and Ambah O’Brien’s Keady came up. It looks interesting but nit too challenging- might be worth a look. Have loads of fun in your trip to Ireland- may good health follow you along the way!
Oh wow! I love your cardigan! The grey is a lovely color for you. I want to make that cardigan so badly but I’m already knitting 3 cardigans and two pairs of socks right now.
I vote for buttons. I love the process of choosing buttons, it's like adding that final piece of jewelry. I just watched Noelle of Knits N Pieces podcast....she just got back from a month-long trip to New Zealand. She shipped some of her yarn haul home instead. I wonder if it would be cheaper than paying for a checked bag?
Kathy-have you looked at Lisa Hannes or Ambah O’Brien’s shawls? Both have lots of interesting shawl patterns. Don’t worry if you think you won’t wear it-you could always give it away. I also strongly vote shawl or cowl instead of a garment for your trip-you don’t want to be spending your mental energy thinking about fit. And thanks for the pointer to Carol Feller’s podcast in your last video! I’ve actually knit from the book you mentioned, and have been enjoying her casts! Have a great trip!!
Hi, Wendy! I looked at Lisa Hannes' designs and immediately saw that I already had Festival of Stitches in my favorites! That one looks like it would satisfy all my needs and is adjustable in size which is nice. Thanks for the advice. I really needed that! I think I'll prepare for one pair of socks, and the shawl. Then I'll have some other sock and hat patterns for any new yarn that comes my way. And maybe another Sophie scarf for the flight over. Looking forward to seeing you in June!
How about another Derocho from the cotton/cashmere yarn? For the cardigan buttons, I like the last one you showed the best, but gray suggested by someone else would be good. Could you use every other buttonhole with the ones where you only have three, or just the top three? Using the top three would probably be best if you don't use the buttons often. Enjoy your trip.
Beautiful cardigan, the colours are stunning! It looks to me like the designer put on larger buttons, so the first ones you shared would look great had the button holes been large enough. Have been thinking of trying out the heathered sport yarn for a while - does it soften up? Have a great trip to Ireland, really looking forward to your next episode and some glimpses from there.
Thank you! I wonder if the smaller buttonhole was something I did. Maybe I tightened up the yarnover. The yarn does soften and relax, but it is still a crunchy yarn. it doesn't bother me at all as a cardigan. To me, it is not soft, but not prickly either. I'm thinking of making a pullover with the Frost color.
Your sweater is beautiful! I have lusted over that pattern and tried to play with a swatch, but it is just not coming out for me. I have done mosaic before, but i seem to have a mental block ! Have a great and safe journey! We will all be looking forward to hearing about it!
Phyllis, you're right. I like to support newer designers who don't have an existing big group of testers at the ready, but you like to see how the design turns out before investing the time. I did look more carefully at the Dulcinea shawl and see that the measurements look good which is one of my concerns with a shawl.
I adore her work! For some reason I've been a little intimidated. She really has some wonderful designs. I have to take another roam through her collection.

Thanks, Eleanor!
You might be right about the gray, and I see you are not alone!
Have a wonderful trip! 🥂 your cardigan turned out great! I like the first buttons. I would push it through the button hole😃🤣

Beautiful cardigan! Wonderful job!
Congratulations on finishing your gorgeous cardigan. I agree with others about grey buttons. Happy Trails in Ireland!

Your cardigan is beautiful! I think you should use buttons and they should be gray 😊. I’m looking forward to knitting the pullover one day.
Thanks, Cathy! That pullover is tempting and it would be so much more relaxing than knitting bottom up.
Try purchasing some large oval buttons. That way they’re big but they’ll fit through the smaller button hole.
Oh, we are thinking alike! This afternoon I noticed oval buttons on one of my shirts and thought aha!

Someone has to be the trail blazer. Test knitters and tech editor for a pattern is important.

you could always just put the buttons on as decoration. You don't have to use them. I'd use the bigger ones.
