I finally made it up to Johnson Branch, which is in Ray Roberts State Park (note: I flew the drone outside of the park!). This trail features some tech and some flow, very similar to Isle du Bois on the other side of the lake, but not quite as difficult.
I probably would've enjoyed it a lot more if not for the million spider webs I took to the face! Pro tip: don't be the first one to ride the trail in the morning!

Early bird gets the worm. Early rider gets the spider
Hahaha!
Favorite trail..... You're on it.
as someone who hikes on this DORBA specifically, i really appreciate it when your bikes make a LITTLE noise so I can hop out of the way and give you all some space :D
Cedar Hill State Park - You should give it another try. Currently the dirt is dry and the trail is fast but don't be the first (or last) one of the day to ride. It has lots of spiders too. ;-)
LB Houston Reservoir along the Trinity in Irving. We used to ride that almost every weekend. Like not a single rock, entirely in the shade. But these days with wide handlebars, I don't know. Always a lil' seedy too, and muddy, a great place to get poison ivy in the summer or shot at night.
Other favorites were Grapevine Lake (N Shore), Joe Pool Lake, the bmx jumps below the White Rock Lake spillway in the old fish hatchery, River Legacy Park. There are other secret trails. I just moved back from Austin and am kinda re-discovering Dallas trails, I've been watching you sometimes for years now, you're helping.
Aledo, Weatherford, Burleson, Mineral Wells... Knob Hills...
North Shore is by far my favorite. Although Boulder comes in at a close second.
That's how I rank them, too!
@@huntstyle I like your videos man, I moved here from Michigan, and have been using your videos as a guide for trails to hit. Keep up the good work!
@@falling_dan thanks! That's exactly what I was shooting for, to have a video on all the trails here so anyone new to the area could see what they're like. I still have several more to get to!
By far the favorite and boulder being a close second doesn’t really make too much sense lol
I feel your pain man. I HATE taking a face full of spider web. Lol
Cross Timber’s for some punishment, Eisenhower, Tyler, Gateway, Northshore, etc.
huh...changing poncho. Never knew. Maybe handy for an emergency bio break lol
Gateway and Northshore are my favorites. Love love love the fast, flowy stuff!
Haven't ridden Big Cedar or Boulder yet, but they're on the list to eventually get to.
I haven't been to Gateway. If it's fast & flowy, I'm there!
@@huntstyle GW is divided by the river into two sides, East and West. The East side is good, with some flow and plenty of techy stuff too. There's one section that's very off-camber which is fun. The West side is my favorite though. Super-flowy and fun!
Hit Hatchie trail in Waxahachie and broke a spoke. So much for a nice cool day ride. I plan on hitting some trails next weekend
Darn! Should be a pretty quick fix, though, right?
Huntstyle if B&B in Cedar Hill had their serviceman on hand. He was out until today
I used to live in Valley View! I just got my first mountain bike(Nukeproof Scout 29er) so I need to head up there and ride the trails and see my grandparents! 2birds1stone
Sounds like a plan!
Nice drone footage too! My bike is also down in the shop and has some squeeks. Bad time too since the weather is perfect for riding. Need a backup bike! 😀
Thanks! I actually had another entire battery worth of flying the drone... where I didn't hit record. D'oh! Yeah, backup bike is definitely needed, haha!
Love me some JB. I think Erwin has become the top of my list recently, but North Shore is finally back open....
I went out there yesterday. Lots of sand!
Looks pretty good!
Minus the spider webs, lol
Ive got the same bike. I had mystery noises as well and solved it by spraying cable lube in the mount points on the seat. The parts where metal meets the actual seat. Might be worth a shot!
Yep, I've had that noise several times! Have to spray some lube in there every now and then. As it turned out, it was the pedals. Greased them up and it's silent again! Gotta check the simple things first!
Yea bro. With all the tree coverage in TX I think auto would be ideal than trying to set the exposure. Sweet vid 👌
I thought I had set it a long time ago, and when I did, I was thinking it would just be over-exposed. It wasn't, but I guess it somehow stayed on auto. Oh well, auto + ND filter it is.
Rode this today and the best part was the gravel road at the end going back to the parking lot. I’ll never do it again. I kept wondering why I spent an hour climbing for approximately ten seconds of descent. Stay away unless you want to climb rocks all morning.
I'm glad I live in Idaho now. Real climbs & descents here. I'll never move back to flat lands.
cool place would like to check it out. Also the drone work is great keep it up.
Mike, it all rolls around here, come on out!
@@huntstyle sounds like a plan
@@mikeskiest7817 actually meet me in Arkansas, that's way better! It's all XC around here.
@@huntstyle haha yeah you know I love that shit.
Erwin is my favorite, it’s fun and close to home. I’ve wanted to go ride at Bonham State Park for a while now for reasons unknown...
Erwin is fun! Never been to Bonham, so I'd be curious to see what that's like, too!
You should sell the Huntstyle cap thing on top of your fork (technical term). Maybe even get some bumper stickers going... just saying
@@ryanmason2291 I got that custom made from stemcaps.com (they are a TX company!)
I saw a spider web today that looked like fishing line! It was crazy thick. I do wonder if the trail difficulty is sometimes rated in relation to the rest of the trail instead of a general rating guideline lol. I've seen some black diamonds that aren't bad and some that are frightening.
That could be. I don't think anything around DFW really qualifies as a black!
Quanah but you have to do a few laps. Then maybe northshore followed by the twins: Boulder and oak Cliff. Honorable non DFW mentions go to Tyler state park, Lindsey, and Cameron park.
Solid list!
@@huntstyle thanks! have you done a video at Cameron?
@@thatonetexan1390 yep, went there once
@@huntstyle love that trail
Quanah hill, followed by endevor park. Would like to do some of the for a trails, big cedar maybe.
I rode both of those earlier this year! They are both great! Ever get out to Possum Kingdom?
@@huntstyle going to try next week.
JB is my favorite, followed by Northshore, IDB, Tyler, Boulder, Quanah, OCNP, Erwin, and Sansom.
You like the techy stuff, huh? I have to be in the mood for it to ride IDB, haha!
@@huntstyle - Love the rocks...grew up riding Moto-X and rode everything from sand, hardpack, and rocky stuff. Riding rocks makes me bring my A-game, the risk is great and tend to make me pick better lines and keeps me on edge.
Not a big fan of the rocks. I’m a fast and flow guy with jumps.
One of the reasons I like riding with someone faster than me: they take the spider webs out for me
Hahaha good point!
LOL, I had to stop today since the spider in my helmet just couldn't seem to settle down and get comfortable! ;)
Oh man, haha! At one point I thought one was in my hair, but I think it was just a fly that flew into the opening in the helmet.
No doubt BC is my favorite local trail but you have to know the flow.
Yeah I definitely did not when I was there!
I had to stay up all night to score first again!!!
Haha! Now that's dedication!
looks fun, been meaning to check it out. new car?!
I got that car a year ago to the day, actually, after the old one was totaled: ua-cam.com/video/5pCn4KILjmo/v-deo.html
Huntstyle haha oops, im new to your channel, mostly been watching the old videos
@@roberttorres8852 Glad to have you here! Yeah, I think I had like 500 subs this time last year, so a lot of people probably didn't see that!
Huntstyle thanks, great quality content so far and looking forward to seeing more👍🏼
Not sure I'll add this trail to my list.
are there paved trails around there?
I don't think so
Big cedar, OCNP, northshore, Sansom, PK
Is more of Big Cedar open now?
@@huntstyle alot of it is...it looks like they are upping alot of trail work now. Signs are getting a tad bit better...but if you trail fork it, I think they added another loop, just don't know which one
That’s why I like letting my buddy ride in front! Let him clear the way!
Hahaha good plan!
Can mountain bike from Walmart able to handle this?
Not very well. Those bikes aren't actually designed for mountain bike trails, even though they call them mountain bikes. You can find lots of videos on UA-cam of people taking Walmart bikes out on trails, and things break on the 1st ride.
@@huntstyle thank you for your answer. I was so close to buying one. Glad I didn't.
I searched for months for a creak on my bike ... Not sure why it makes me so angry haha
It's so hard to figure out where it's coming from!
Label said isle du bois? Johnson's branch is different . Fyi.
Northshore
Nvm. I thought i clicked on link above that was IDB. 👍
first person on trail plays spiderman
That place sucks. No redeeming qualities.
