Hello from across the pond. I bought a Border kit. All the research I need to do has held it back. Didn't realize there was that much history behind the plane. Upping the learning curve.
I'm an artist and think, despite a few pointed out in accuracies (rear cockpit dome etc), that this box artwork is absolutely fantastic. Also regarding the green being too light, no, it's depicted in extremely bright high altitude sun light. Look at the top of the starboard horizontal stabiliser, which is in slight shadow, its darker, as is the port wing leading edge, again in shadow.. looks awesome in daylight scheme. Great channel.
HI Nigel! New Lanc video..😍😍😍 and you see me in front of the computer for every single second. Amazing kit. Many greetings, a special hug for Jess. Thomas from Mexico.
Your knowledge of the Lancaster is a mazing Having seen most of the "Standard Reviews " I have been fascinated for many years and Met and had drinks with VeRA's crew Deana and i where at Coningsby when she got back from Durham after the engine failure and have pictures of one of tghe engineers expainig how they thought the failure was due to VeRA flowing the BBNF Lancaster too closly - this was found NOT to be true My wife bought me a ride on Just Jane a i sat in the Rear Gunners seat - surprised how comfortable it was I also show a guy around when he was doing the 3D Panarama inside JJ But yes amazing detail. Theses engines would have been impossible to build without you and even then i am struggling a bit
Im like you Nige love the 1/32 lancs have 3 borders and the Hk dambuster too. Great comparisons on the 1/32 lanc kits im sure this will assist the guys in making there choices .
Hi Nigel first time commenting on your videos, subscribed to you after getting the border models lanc last year, then had several moments of madness firstly getting the border models dam busters lanc followed by the grand slam lanc in your hands right now. both times after watching your videos so Hannants love me! oh I also went and got the border models nose kit to practice on before starting any of the others!
Wow... One big issue I have with the BM 1/32 Lanc is the lack of options for bomb bay doors and undercarriage doors not being able to be shown in the closed position; I think and believe that the HK Lanc allows either open or closed doors- and has more detail in the wings as you've mentioned with oil tanks and framing. Just amazed that HK have corrected some of the worst errors in the kit as first released - so great kudos to Neil and all at HK for that. I personally would never build a lanc with bomb doors open; your labours with all the ejection pin marks were admirable, but I think a lot of the aesthetic appeal of the Lanc is lost with bd's open- if I want bombs they'll be on bomb dollies approaching the aircraft. Awesome video thanks Nige, won;t be getting this one but doesn't stop me watching and appreciating your review of it.
Also couldn’t resist either and ordered late that evening, arrived today nicely packed in a 1/32 ‘Rose of York ‘ outer box which threw me a bit! I had only just cracked open the HK 1/32 Dambuster to build alongside the Border one as a like for like. Started with engines, the HK are not a patch on the Border for detail…however they do the job and go together MUCH quicker and like you say basically no cleanup needed, looks like the Dambuster has the fake engine sprue parts but the cockpit seat platform hasn’t been lowered like the Grand Slam This will be stashed for a while also I reckon It’s becoming a nightmare to hide all these 1/32 kit boxes😅
It was a “bargain” though and very impressive delivery time with ParcelForce, literally next day! Been experimenting with using Deluxe Plastic Magic cement on the HK Dambuster and seems to work well 🤞🏻as I recall you said Extra Thin might not be ideal on the HK to actually weld it…maybe the quick setting though?
Extra thin works great with their plastic now Steve. Not sure if they changed the formula, but now you mention it I seem to remember there was an issue.
Couldn't resist - HK Grand Slam on the way! It'll be in the stash for a good while, but I think at this price it's a bargain. Well that's what I'm telling myself anyway.
@@NigelsModellingBench As I was pondering, the remaining stock number went from 10+ to 7. Don't know how low it had got by the time I pulled the trigger, but there were none left soon after - the Nige effect!
Hi Nigel, at 5.10 you mentioned that the HK kit has the PO-S markings but the side windows need filling in, I stand to be corrected of course but I thought with the red only PO-S it had side windows and after it’s major a new wing and mid/ rear fuselage was used which was manufactured without side windows and the PO-S was now red with yellow outlines, so the kit is actually correct in this respect, except for what I consider incorrect box art.
@@NigelsModellingBench thank you for that Nigel, coming from you that is a huge compliment. I forgot to mention that before its major update the side windows were painted over. Thank you for your videos, my brother and I are big fans of yours.
Had a look on Hannants this morning and they're out of stock on this kit - available elsewhere though. Lovely looking kit Nige, wprth it at that price.
Besides the price, the sheer size of the finished model becomes an issue that would deter a lot of modelers from buying it. It would be nice if Border would do one in 1/48 scale.
Hey Nigel I restarter my build of lancaster from border models and wanted to review some of your videos. It shows as the playlist unavailable anymore? Has it been removed?
Looks like camo of these aircraft is the original can o' worms..quote from a discussion on Britmodeller...''PB series specials were delivered in standard bomber command scheme, and the PD series were delivered in the day camouflage scheme.'' as the HK kit has PD serials it has day camo..Light Earth..Light Green ..undersides...''Sky or Medium Sea Grey, in the closing stages of the war''
@Nigel - great review thank you. Question, do you know if the Border Models nose section will fit the HK Lancaster body? I have the HK Models Lancaster but am tempted to buy the BM nose section and fit it to the HK one. I hope you see my comment. Regards from Karsten in Denmark
I am currently working it out. The outer section is different on both models but I want to use all the interior and nose turret from the BM nose. Someone here kindly bought me the nose kit to experiment with.
@@NigelsModellingBench very interesting Nigel. I’m looking forward to follow it. And thank you for all your videos. It’s very inspiring for me. And I love the Lancaster
Hannants is now £409.99, but around £50 cheaper elsewhere. Alas, even reduced, was ever to remain on the unattainable top shelf for me. BTW Where in Gloucester is this mansion of yours with the room for all these 1/32 Lancs Nigel? Do you do guided tours?
Hey Nigel, whats your opinion on this kit, even when i'm not home your programmes comtinue to record onto my computer for myself to Watch latter, Aways love the videos, Hope Covid is better. Regards
You guys in the UK are getting ripped a new one on kit prices. Here in Oz the WW Lanc can be had for £420 and the HK Lancs are £230 ie 860AUD and 460AUD respectfully. The new Dambuster by Border is £500. I woukd of though volume alone would make UK prices similar to ours.

I am most possibly wrong, but maybe this Tallboy version of the Lanc used LG legs and wheels from the Avro Lincoln already in development?

PD119 617 sdn missing (Duessldorf) 2/3 November 1944.
Most likely Light Earth which is very similar to the US FS 30219 of USAF Viet Nam vintage
I shall check it out.
😂whenever you say “new clear” I keep hearing “nuclear” 😊
Funnily enough Paul, I think the same lol.
Do you live in a mansion Nigel? If you finish all of those Lancaster’s, you’re going to need one.
I shall ask my Butler to make room, if not the maids will have to have them in the kitchen quarters lol.
