Are they plus vat prices?
im curious why you did not test the bridgestone RE1RS ??? they are a fantastic road/track tire and would have been good to compare against these tires
@@robbyjai we don't get those here in Europe, unfortunately
@@bwsport1 Yes.
A052 have been almost impossible to get hold of in 205/50/15, many places say they're out of stock or no longer in production. Hopefully the AD09s come to the UK soon. Even if you can get A052 they're 40% more expensive than last year...
Feel like the AD09 could have been faster but time was lost in braking and slightly overshooting the chicane. That's an impressive tyre none the less.
can't wait for the AD09R ! hope it will be as good as the old AD08R. (The RS was crap)
@@FreestylerAlbert AD08R was amazing for the money
Great comparison! Good to see the AD09 is vastly improved considering the RS was such a disappointment.
Well done! Just wish the Pilot Sport Cup240 was included.
ive heard the a052 works really great on light cars that are about in the 1000kg class.
heavy things should really run the dunlop. much better suited for the newer german tanks. 👀
anyway, the ad09 looks like it'll be a winner on track while still offering the needed on road Performance.
just about slightly faster than an ar1 is very impressive considering its probably gonna be easily liveable with day in day out.
A052 also works on heavy cars. For example M3 E46... Specially in difficult conditions.
Would be nice to see the MRF ZTR here...
Can you wrote compound of tires? etc DZ03G , AR1 which one was tested?
Do you have RE-71RS in UK🇬🇧 ? Very interested to see how that tire performs compared to the A-052 Yokohama
Thanks guys, exactly what we - as consumers and track enthusiasts- needed. Currently on AR-1's but do fancy trying the Dunlops on my FN. Looks like Yoko have addressed the complaints regarding the AD08RS then? Great video.
"It wouldn't shift down, so that's not the best corner." Paddle shifters man, not even once. Great video man, thanks, and nice car! Despite the flappy paddles. Haha
Great video, good to see the AD09 and the new Nankang! For 215/45R17 the Direzza's are actually cheaper than A052 so I'll be going with some of those later in the year.
BTW if there's any way you could do a pace drop-off test one day (e.g. how much drop in performance of new tyres through to tyres that have done X heat cycles / Y laps) that would be amazing. I realise that's a lot of effort though! Really just to get an idea for track day people who do maybe 8-10 runs a day across 5-6 days how much the tyres drop off/harden.
Great video once again after the first blind test with the Civic. I was really hoping for this second blind test to see the Michelin Cup 2R compared to the one's in contest here.
I wonder if they would be better or as good the tyres in the video. I’m interested
Superb work and I really appreciate doing this test blind. That's the only way to get objective data.
Proper comparison, very enlightening. Thx guys!
Been waiting for this test for weeks! Loving the tyre tests
Toyo r888r on my mx5 nc 500hp very grippy Tyre (235/45/17) now I change with AD09 (255/40/17) rear until now is very predicted and smooth Tyre not so much grip as the Toyo but I believe is better on a wet road (that’s why I change to Yokohama) and also I believe they will last longer time than toyo
Maybe less rougher drive too? Can help allot with turn in
Brilliant video ! Pleasantly surprised by the AD09. That will be my next tyre. IF Yoko Uk release more sizes ( please Tegiwa, hassle them to do so if you can ( cough 235/35/19)).
Interesting that you didn't include the Trofeo like last time. I remember Luke commenting that the Civic was hard to get heat in the rears of that last time out. I'd have thought a punchy 440hp RWD car could have been perfect for that tyre. Never mind, a very minor point.
Thanks again. Look forward to the next one !
Hi, thanks for the feedback! We will try and keep the Trofeo's in mind for the next tyre test!
I’m surprised at the Direzza, for an ‘old’ tyre they’re still a top choice. They were the tyre the fastest guys used in local hillclimbs like 10 years ago.
Same with Yokohama A050, also an old tire but still competitive.
All these tires have different optimal pressures though. So running when you don't know what tire, are you able to keep them within optimal pressures?
On the AR1's, Nankang recommends a hot pressure range of 34 - 42 PSI for cars weighing over 1400 KG. What was your rational for runnig them at 30 PSI hot for the test?
There'd be nothing left of the centres running at those pressures after a single day. I run them 30-32 hot on my M2.
How is the AD09 that isnt even a pure Track Semi faster than the AR1
@@Fabio_T26 wtf are u talking
in switzerland, the price difference between the direzza and the a052 is higher (given you have to import the direzza apart from a higher base price). i've driven the a052 for 4 years on my track tool and i'll buy it in the future too. apart from this, i also took my daily/tow car to the track for fun on bridgestone potenza sport street tires. i was pleasantly surprised how they handled 1.8 tonnes
I just slapped some AD09s on a few days ago. So far through my limited experimentation, on my car anyway, they seem to grip a little better than my RE-71Rs did, and certainly better than the PZ4s. Noticeably quieter and smoother than the REs as well. Interesting to see how long they last as a well beaten street tire...
I had them on my M2 competition for about 8 months. Mixed city, highway, and autocross. I got about 8-9k miles out of them. I agree, when first mounted they were pretty quiet but go louder as they wore. Still quieter than RE-71!
I’m not even in the market for these tires, but after hearing how you would be doing it the test blind I got excited to see the results.
Would love to see a test for 15s
...and/or 16s 😉
Great tyre test, thankyou. I used a set of Dunlop Direzza Star Spec 001's in 245/45x17 and 265/40x17's on a Holden Commodore when I lived in the UAE. It's the Australian version of the Opel Omega, rear wheel drive, but with a 5.7 LS1 V8 that was making about 425hp and 435tq (lbs/ft). The kerb weight was 1655 and can honestly say they were worth every penny. The best tyre I ever had on any car I've ever owned (had a string of BMW 3 series before that (323i, 325i and a 325i fitted with a 2.7 M20).
I had tried so many different brands of tyre always fitting the best available. I'd go with Dunlop's again if given the chance.
(Michelin's always took the least amount of weight to balance, the quality must be top notch).
Great vid. Have a set of Direzzas for my Audi Quattro. I thought although 1C listed they were road legal and on the MSA road legal list?
AD09s seem really impressive taking everything into account - shame there’s a bit of a lack of more useful sizes atm in the UK, especially not 215/45 in a 17”!
Definitely need a set in that size for my 86!
go for 225/45 17 there's not much in it on my Rays wheels 17 inch.
@@Evo836 still only seem to be able to find 225/50 in a 17", which given I'm on a 7j anyways is pushing it, especially with the extra sidewall - guess I'll just have to wait it out!
@@blathers_13 Yes just wait it out as I bought my last set of Yokohama AD08 before the R came out as they where not as good before lock down. As th Evo is designed around 17 wheels and everyone sticks 18 inch on and wide rubber which just f*cks up the handling unless you are on the track. The same with these lowered cars is stupid. My car was built round Clubsport KW suspension for 'B'roads on 225/45 17 on Magnesum Rays CE28 expensive wheels and very light and corner weighted. Also my choice of Alcon 6 pot front brakes was part of the setup and lots of searches to get the correct spec.
want a set of 17s for the s2k after ad08 wearing out
what about Falken RT660 ?
Thanks a lot! Great video and test! :D Do you think you could reduce understeer with the AR1 by reducing pressure a bit?
I think because this car naturally has a heavy front, skinnier front tires and a lot of weight on them they will start to overheat and overpreassure quite quickly. I was curious as to how they know what pressures to keep them in if they don't know what tire it is, for example the AR1 prefers 30psi hot where the A052 prefers 35psi hot.
Did the fuel tank get refilled with each new tire?
Why can we still not get the AD09 in 235/40/18??
Great video ! I also own a 2017 M240i (6mt) and I love it! I run elite contact sports in the rear but I don’t track the car as I don’t have a track near where I live
In my experience the worst street semi slicks for wear rate on track make the best tyre for the street as they perform well at street temperatures without the need to fry heat onto them .
I'd go the A052 .
Guys, thank you very much for this video. I was waiting so long for comparison of AR1 and A052. I love AR1 on track, but they are not that good on road, when they are not properly warm. Many people purchased recently A052 saying they are much better than R888(R) and AR1 for amateur autocross/slalom. But there was no comparison on track when tyres are up to temperature. Until now. My next set is A052 for sure. Thanks a lot.👏
Thanks for the feedback!
I actually went from R888 to R888r to A052 to AR1 recently. A052 are the best so far in terms of streetability and ultimate grip, i only went the AR1 due to my recent budget and although I'm very happy with them on track, they are nowhere near as agile, responsive or streetable as the a052. Noise was the first thing I noticed with the AR1, driving home from the tire shop it sounded like I had 4x4 Mud tires on the car. But as soon as I put my foot down... wow the grip! hard to tell if acceleration grip was as good as fresh A052 but I was impressed none the less. R888r is more like the a052 just slightly worse at everything, braking, acceleration, peak grip, wet grip etc.
I understand about keeping the variables all the same but some of these tires may like more of less pressure cold than what you set them. That may have affected the testing. I would be interested in knowing the heat cycle life of each.
Congratulations for this great test! Next year try to include the Bridgestone Potenza Race or the RE 71 S and/or the BFGoodrich GForce R1 or the GForce Rival S 1.5. It would be very interesting to see them against the Dunlop Direzza DZ03G! Keep up with the good work and a have a nice season on track!
Not to mention the MRF ZTR...
recently switched from the bridgestone to the direzza and dropped just over 1s per lap on a full track car
awesome test suits NZ tyre access
"Dear Mr. ******, i checked with our product planning and have bad news. The requested size (215/40/17) cannot be sold in Europe because the R117-02 cannot be obtained for this specific product size. Best Wishes, Your Yokohama Team "
So there will be not in the size for my NSX. :(
Ironically, that very tire IS available here in the states (IF you are referring to the AD09?) and what I will use if Michelin and it's retailers continue to refuse to sell me a set of their PS5 in that very size (which they will not bring over here, even IF they fully release the larger sizes of the PS5 lineup in the future! GRRRR!).

Great test! seeing the behavior of the ad09 from the footage its seems like its not a good tire out of the box. seems to over and understeer until in their right window, where both direzza and ar1 seems to be flying out of the box.
if you got more camber at the front i belive the ar1 is the fastest one, couse no oversteering at all and a decent grip. And the driver wasnt in the flow on the first tyre set.
Another cracking video as always! This will do really well again like the one before 👌🏻 Great test and insight!
Great review!
Currently run AD08R, not very fast but does hold the track use temperature well and going consistantly during the day. AD09 seems to be a good improvement in performance and still keep the wear in control, which is really important.
The AD09 replaces the AD08R and is better in every way both in the wet and dry. Highly recommended tyre this.
aren't you running the RS? R isn't commercially available in EU for a while now and is a much worse compound than the R was.
@@Car3stash I'm using AD08R bought back in mid 2021, and tyres were manufactured in 48th week of 2020. I never saw RS in Australia
Awesome comparison!
Nice comparison, bought the A052, as the A050 are hard to get in the eu. But think the A050 is a lot faster, would love to see a comparison between Dunlop Direzza and the A050
Thanks for the feedback!
Great test. I have the Ad09's on my MX5 which I track and love them. I just bought PS4 S's for my HSV Clubsport which will be fitted next week. It won't see any track use but now I'm wondering if I should have bought the Ad09 for it as well? Would the Ad09's be a better road tyre than the PS4 S?
For us, the PS4S is probably one of the best all round road tyres on the market that's great in the dry and wet. AD09's are a little bit more track focused than the PS4S so you made the right decision.
I’ve got Direzza’s on my rears and their the best I’ve ever driven
Hard to not read any of the comments while watching the video cause don't want to ruin the surprise. But do want🎉 to say a few things including predictions and a question.
Have a feeling the crs will be first a052 second or the Dunlop first. I personally have zero experience with Dunlop being a legit race tore makes me think first. Have a bit of experience on a052, crs, Falken rt660, and Goodyear 3r.
I believe the goodyear supercar 3r would be the fastest tire here is tested. Do you not have that tire there? Thanks so very much for doing this. Love a good tire test. I run a pretty fast c7z time attack car in the US. Goodyear Supercar 3r is best there. Although the a052 or crs might be able to beat it due to coming up to temp quicker so before hp starts falling off on heat soaked supercharged car like the vette. So maybe not out right faster but if done right might be able to beat it. Can't thank you enough for this video!!
What was that digital tire pressure tool I saw there briefly??
Continental Sportcontact 7
Ok boss man. I just bought a 911 997.1 S and I plan to track some and use the same tires for everyday use. The AD09 aren’t available in my size preference, 245/35/19-305/30/19. Therefore, what tire would you recommend? Thanks!!!
I’m amazed by the result of the CR-S , I’m wondering if that’s an old spec tyre not the new design? I can’t believe it’s slower than the ar-1 ?
But a great video thanks for the time and effort to make this!
Thanks for this review/test!
Since none of the manufacturers will provide a great performing, pure street (300-340 tread wear) tire in my size, I am forced to go with the most 'streetable' 200 tread wear 'track' tire.
Michelin totally disallows us here in the states from having the PS5 (let alone the PS4S) in a 215/40-17, and Conti does not even offer anything near that size in their equivalent UUHP road tire lineup. ☹😡
I was already leaning towards the AD09, given it's more rain grooved/cut tread pattern not killing me on standing water/heavy rain use roadways, and more 'endurance' level tread wear than the gumball sticky, 'lightly cut slick' pure track tires (which could be deadly in the rain, even at full tread depth).
I am glad to see that I would NOT be giving up too much in ultimate grip over said 'one lap wonder' exclusive track tires.
That Dunlop almost pure race tire is not even sold here in the states, at all.
Many thanks for this review. Looks like the AD09 is my next tyre, although I am very impressed with the 2023 CRS's that are currently on my car..
Extremly good video
Perfect video. I'm running A052 on my R34 Skyline, such a great tyre for track and street! I might consider trying the Direzzas next.
Was at Nürburgring last week most cars on ar-1s as I am. But the fastest driver on the dz03gs say the gap has closed when compared to ar-1s
Let everyone give a tip of the hat to these wonderful ZF-8 gearboxes as well btw.......
Great review and great tires!! As usual great job from you guys at Tegiwa!
was it refuelled after each tyre test to match its previous weight?
We tried to keep the fuel levels as even as we could.
@@tegiwa cheers. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work!
I love my nankang crs!
This was amazing to watch, thank you for putting this comparison together.
Huge thanks for this, it’s so useful!!! 👏👏👏
An interesting addition would be the weight of each, Nankang in particular are very heavy, for lighter cars it can be quite noticeable.
To be fair. The AD09 was probably only so good, because you used the much wider front tyres.
my car came with brand new nankang all season tires on it. i swapped those pieces of garbage out as soon as possible. they were unsafe to drive on wet pavement. any moderate braking in the wet would slide. even just backing out of the driveway then braking to change directions would slide. i couldnt not believe a tire in 2017 was THAT bad.
Hi!
Did you tested v.2 of Nankang cr-s yet?
what was the date code on the CRS? 2022 CRS and earlier is a completely different tire from the 2023 updated tire. So much so i threw away my old model CRS's
i'm wondering how you got 265 tires in, what rim size/width do you have and what offset for front and rear?
Just done my brakes Alcon Braked Evo 6 today and my old set of Yokohama AD08's last set of old great tyres as the 'R' are crap'
Thank you for such a comprehensive test, sorry to nit pic however it would have been nice to see lap times for each tyre per session to get an idea of degradation or not, time to get to operating temp etc. Again, thank you for your testing.
I'm running Potenza RE-71R probably better then all of them.
I've ran the AD08R and AD08RS on my 410hp Silvia S15 - I just bought a new set of the RS in March but this video might just persuade me to get some AD09s before I take her on track next year! Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on some 225/40 and 255/35 in 18" by then 👀
I know its a lot to ask but how about Re71RS? Also I guess we don't get the DZ03G in the US or maybe its not released yet?
Is the 30mm staggered set up to help with the balance of the car? I still run the 20mm stagger on my M2 still but also have Millway camber plates.
Polite comment from myself, the Nankang CR-S needs scrubbing in at 75% max effort then leaving for 24hrs per their own notes before you can run them on track at full attack or they'll not perform. I run them here in New Zealand as a time attack tire. They need low pressures to come on also ive found in the GR Yaris they're best at 28-30psi hot. They're not pitched as a tire above the AR-1 either, they're 200tw whereas the AR-1 is a 100tw tire.
Out if curiosity, tire pressures are hugely important on getting the most out of a tire, how was this managed during the test?
Sorry if the above seems negative, that wasn't my intention, just felt it was worth raising some important points. There's easily a 2second swing in lap times for a tire if you dont get tire pressures and temps dialled in correctly.
Thanks for the feedback!
I love the PS5 on my GTI, great video guys!! Cheers from California
The ps5s are absolutely horrible in my experience been out once in my track car in them so soft and a lot of sidewall flex its awful
Would also be great if you kept all these exact tyres and ran the same test in 3 month increments. As id be curious if the "longer lasting" tyres stayed consistent or if they fell off a cliff after a heat cycle or two. Would give insight into the tyres that no one else will ever bother doing. As how they perform with stickers on is not really representative of use on 99% of track days
I'd rather see average lap time rather than fastest lap time. The spread is so thin, they could very well be chalked up to driver variance.
This is the perfect review. The only thing you could have done better is get the exact pressures the tyre companies would want you to run.
nankang tyre just like potenza re71rs😂..
Great comparison! For a road legal track car, would you go with AD09 or AR1??
I have AD09 on my M2 competition…great all purpose 200tw tire. Check out my autocross runs for a sense of handling…they are great on the street and not too noisy
Would you recommend the AD09 over the PS4S for a street performance tire?
If the AD09's are available in your size then they're a good contender!
as a scientist, i'd like to see not only a "negative control" (pilot sport) but also a "positive control" (slicks) for comparison :)
Would have like to see the Bridgestone RE71RS and Falken represented.
I was shocked how cheao ar1 are. Pumped to test when i swap stock ish k20b. Ported head ported intaks. 205 are 1 114 each
The weight is off. I have a m240i and its has 1560 kg
Is what I wating for!!!
It been interesting to see do the tyres in different order. As day goes on you’d be naturally quicker as getting more confident in car / circuit and track improving too.
Good on you guys for testing the tyres though!!
Hi, thanks for the feedback! We tried to be as fair as we could with the time we had on the day but yes i agree if we had more time then we would've run the tyres again.
the 4s would have made a better comparison since its more agressive then the ps5 but is still far better on the street compare to the rest.
I've been waiting for ad09's for so long and i've spotted they have listed 15's on their website so will go to them. I did look at the CRS but due to them not passing regs for so long ill miss them. The ad09 seems the best all round like the original ad08r thank god.
So The best bang for the buck is the yokohama ad09
Great video, thank you! I own a stock 2018 BMW M240i x-drive with a staggered factory setup (225/40/18 Front & 245/35/18 Rear) and I'm interested in the same tire fitment. Do you know whether the 265's at the rear work with the same wheel dimensions & offsets you have, but with a stock suspension?
Keep It stock...larger tires on rear means more grip in acceleration, but also understeer in corner on AWD chassis.
Would be great to see a comparison set of cup2 thrown on if possible?
Really good video, the AD09 is really impressive for a 200tw tyre- if only they made them in 17"...
the TW is meaningless number. perfomance track tire manufacturers paint 200tw on them to make it into TA championship rules.
That's why 200tw tires are faster than some 60-80 tw.
@@maximborodyuk3773 true, but even if it's softer than some other tyres sold as 200tw it's still impressive that it's that fast, comparing to tyres like ar1s etc
@@quest8795 its softer than some tires at 80 tw
The point is - it's meaningless number.
@@maximborodyuk3773 yeah its rather a scam. The a052 is a good example. Its rated 200tw but lets be honest . it should be labeled as a 100tw or lower
I wonder how bad the AD09 threadwear is in reality .
Great video! I have a set of AD08RS and they are not that nice on track, easily out of grip. I see that the AD09 are avaliable in 205/50R15 86V, though do you know if they are (already) available in Europe?
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, we do not sell the AD09 in your desired size!
Pilot Sport 5? Track day tyre? XDD
Hello! Can you tell me what buckets are those? They look supportive for track days and comfy in the same time. Thank you!
They are Cobra Nogaro's. We have them available to purchase at Tegiwa.com.
Dunlop its the best for price of performance
