I've gotta say this, you are so inspiring. Your videos have encoraged me to continue with my passion for pokemon and not worry about getting "the best" cards. I collect what i can and when i can. I see so many huge collections on social media and its intimidating because it makes you feel like you're not worthy in the community but since i started watching your videos ive learned being a collector is not about having the biggest and best collection, its about enjoying the process of collecting. Thank you so much SMParette and keep inspiring us collectors to collect! :)
your advice is absolutely spot on, can only master something if you are engaged, that goes for anything in life but it's interesting to see how it applies to business as well
I think the consistency aspect of collecting is perhaps the biggest separation between beginners and the more 'serious' collectors. I've collected cards since release on and off, amassing some pretty good collections over that time, but it's only within the last year I'd say I'm more comfortable in what I'm doing. I'm only just starting to get that je ne sais quoi around certain items, and that appreciation of "this is my focus". I feel like I'm a beginner still, but having had a good solid year and a half or so of watching how the market reacts to new releases, the Pokemon Go hype etc etc has given me a bit more scope on the hobby as a whole, where-as before, I would definitely get swept up in the hype and purchase everything I could. I think time and patience is what makes any hobby a bit more serious. Hopefully one day I'll be able to feel as comfortable in my position in the hobby as you :) Good video as always.
Love your videos mate - at the turn of the year I got my old cards out and have started collecting any condition base sets- jungle-fossel and rocket cards as that was my era as a kid. I spend what spare cash I have a week on picking up some nostalgic cards from back in the day and I love it. Think your videos are so helpful so keep up the good work and thank you😊

I have been collecting for maybe 2.5 years now and it was cool to hear that it's ok not to have everything because that was what I initially thought collecting was but now I focus primarily on collecting sealed booster packs and sealed merchandise. I love organizing it and looking at it.

Funny story I was thinking I needed to find out who I bought all my PSA grade 10 Promo Pikachu from and I couldnt remember so was watching your video and it just dawned on me. Checked my history and yup it was you ;)
its important to have a fundamental understanding of how to play the game and where cards stand as legal for play and out of print, as an early nostalgia not knowing to play is widely accepted up to about sky ridge , today its hard with out knowing at least the rules for game play and deck building and expansion release dates , some cards are worthy of being singled out of a set while others are more appealing with its entire chronicle . still collecting with out knowing game play with cards can be fanaticism having multiples of a card that is only called for once in a complete set and up to 4 max in a deck requires some slight form of rational collecting principle especially with the current explosion in psa submitting. buying with the intent to keep or utilize is where the real value is everything else is just a fiat comparison, and that's just not real register your cards

I do have a request though! please make a video about your experience with fake pokemon cards and or psa cards that have been tampered with etc. I recently had a bad transaction where the buyer demanded a refund because he claimed my psa card was fake and was not a legit gem mint 10. long story short the buyer pu4chased the card and tried flipping it, after a couple weeks he reduced the price, then when he wasn't making a profit on it he claimed it was fake and ebay forced a refund. Do you have any experience or insight on tampered psa card? would love to see a video about it!
Honestly as much as I think he tried to make a quick sale on my card and forced a return when he realized that he wasn't making much profit, he also has me second guessing that my card may have been tampered with before I owned it. Out of courtesy for the guy (giving him the benefit of the doubt) I don't want to reveal his username. Also I'm planning on sending most of my collection to PSA to be re-encapsulated to ensure authenticity.
While I can see what you're saying I kind of disagree with this definition of a serious collector. Or maybe you think there's a distinction between a serious collector and a true collector? I don't think it relates to how much you buy as opposed to how much you want to pursue. A lot of people in the Pokemon hobby just want to complete main sets without going after promos (or reverse holos) or anything special like that. To me that would be an average collector.
