I think the Greensand area gets its name from a type of sand that really does have a greenish tinge, due to some chemical in it, but a lot of the sand in the area does not look green at all.
Good fun - a shame we couldn’t film in the church but your viewers were saved from a theological discussion about the differences between high church and low church!
Interesting video but the start with the ubiquitous sound of the chainsaw made me shudder. Shame you couldn't film in the church, maybe if you'd said you wanted to pray 🙏 😉
For some reason I always get a tickle out you showing the Green Sand Way. I have seen green sand in my garden books for the use of ammending soil (apparently it has special nutrients in it). I guess they have to harvest it ftom some where, I just never really thought about. I thought the church was quite beautiful too. Never understood why diff places would build w/ sandstone (or chalk like in some of your other vids). Of coarse its going to crumble!🤔 The only reason I could think they wouldn't want you to film the inside would be cause of possible theft. It only takes the wrong person to see what they might have to go & kick the doors in in the middle of the night & clean them out.
Regarding various building materials that crumble. I think in the past they couldn't bring better building materials to the locations because the roads were so damn difficult to travel on.
@@RichardVobes aaaahhhh! Makes sense. Gotta use what ya have. And when they built it were they really thinking it'll still need to be standing another 100-1000 yrs later????
Another good one, Richard and Matthew.
Glad you enjoyed it Ann!
I like how most of the time you have different people to come and walk !
Thanks Tom. I do try to vary the people with me to make it more interesting.
thank you, Matthew and Richard!
A pleasure as ever!
I’m enjoying the Greensand way with yourself and Marhew who I must say is very knowledgable.
Oh he sure is -thanks for watching.
Good video like listening to young Mathew what a knowledgeable chap he is 👏👏
Oh he is a knowledgeable man. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Very relaxing and pleasant to watch, thank you.
Thanks Tim
Interesting church, such a shame you couldn’t film inside. Lovely walk here. Matthew is very knowledgeable
Great video Mr Vobes. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. Walk on and explore more!!!! Beautiful stuff. Too bad about the church interior.
Thanks Judith - we shall be back soon to continue the exploration of the Green Sand Way! :)
Well done great video, I think it is called the green sand way because it is sandy and the trees and plants make It green.
Cheers George!
fabulous.really looking forward to more with matthew…..bit of a shame you couldn't film inside the church.but really nice walk all the same.
Thanks Shaun.
Given how many church people have invited you inside in other videos, it is surprising to find one that does not want you there.
It was most odd. But hey ho, what can you do?
The sand quart at Westcott was used in glass making.

I think you are right David.
Lovely video, I cannot imagine why someone would stop you videoing in a Church. (Unless there was an event in the church)
I know - it was very odd.
They may have issue with theft in the past. Maybe they were afraid someone would think they saw something of value & come break in.
Damn & Blast, the self annointted take over again,
Sounds about right.
Thats very sad, ive never heard of a permit to film in a church. Not one church ive filmed at have ever heard of it.
You might want to check Wikipedia why Greensand is called Greensand: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greensand#Properties_and_uses
Thank you - very useful.

That is true

Sorry about the chain saw - we had no control over that! :(
