I always try to remember to be kind to myself, and it's definitely not always easy hah. As I am getting older I really appreciate looking back and seeing areas of growth. That's what life is all about and I think every step is so important-- this goes for everything! I have changed so much but I really love the whole journey and have a very soft spot for younger me haha. I suppose that comes from being proud of younger me for having the guts to do what I wanted, cause had I not idk where I would be or what i would be doing. So so happy you liked the video. You are loved!

It really struck me how positive and non-judgemental you are to yourself over time, it made me realise how much people seem to want to laugh at past trends and ways we used to experiment with clothes. Your gentle self respect is something to look up to, you truly mean it when you say to experiment and be true to yourself

Hey everyone! I hope you're in the mood to kick back and chill bc this video got a lil lengthy! I really wanted to show how you can build up your wardrobe over time, wear items to bits & in so many ways, as well as how your style can shift over time even within the vintage umbrella of style. There are SO many styles that were popular in the 60s & 70s and the best way to find what clicks for you is to experiment, have an open mind, and pay attention to styles you like-- learn more about your fashion icons & why they chose to dress their body the way they did. Many times you'll learn they were trying to say something with their clothes, and I always think that's interesting.
SHORT TAKE AWAY FROM THIS VIDEO: Outfit repeating is hot-- do it! Keep items & use them as long as they'll hang on or make sure it's going to a good home next. Allow yourself to experiment and try things out, it's not always amazing but the journey is! DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY-- seriously. Forget what anyone is thinking, they're probably thinking about themselves anyway & not you! Be kind to yourself! KNOW I LOVE YOU! xoxo

As someone who grew up extremely poor, this was really refreshing and validating. Little me always struggled with having hand-me-downs and homemade accessories. Now, grown-up me is finally growing into a vintage style that I waited a long time to explore. Im not sure why, but it’s a teeny bit of an emotional thing to see a fashion icon like you be so completely okay with coloring their shoes with sharpie and holding something together with safety pins. Thanks for that!

Hi Devyn, I just found your channel tonight while having a "UA-cam binge" evening, venturing back into my past life as one of the original "Beatlemaniacs" of the early 60s. I was watching videos of Pattie Boyd in the 60s and your eye makeup video copying her style popped up. When you said you discovered the Beatles in your Freshman year of high school I thought, "OMG, I know this girl! She is just like me--only half a century (or more) later!! I was in middle school when the Beatles came to America. I actually saw them perform in 1964 and 1965 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. The girls you speak of, Jane Asher, Pattie Boyd, Maureen, Cynthia; they were the girls I read about every single day back then and my girlfriends and I would copy their hair and makeup styles just like you did! I have a school picture of me in a dress with that same little Peter Pan collar. I absolutely loved that dress! It's so awesome that you are a fan! I was just talking to my cousin about how sad it is when we meet young people who only vaguely know who the Beatles were. Because they literally changed the world. With their music, fashion and especially when they became spiritual and contributed to opening minds, changing attitudes and bettering the world. They spoke for a generation, many of whom lost their way. I am so happy you have found it! It's great that you stress the importance of purchasing sustainably, but being gracious and understanding that not everyone is able to do that. I'm probably old enough to be your grandmother, but I am subscribing to your channel!

I love watching people's style evolutions. Wish I had some photos of me figuring out my style. But I was an emo kid who's parents refused to let me dress like that so I looked rough and never took pictures 😂

I really appreciate you touching on the cost of buying sustainable clothing from company’s. It can get very pricy and most people can’t really afford it. Thrifting is a really good one and for cheap. 🌸

I remember following you on my old vintage Instagram account back in 2012 and thinking “omg there’s someone my age who also loves vintage things!” Coming from a suburb in Michigan, vintage fashion wasn’t that well known yet! Now 25 and still dressing in vintage to this day!

@ciao214Z excuse me? 1960s and 70s fashion is, due to its age, generally regarded as being ‘vintage’! heck, some people are now calling 90s fashion vintage which I don’t necessarily agree with but you can’t say that fashions from 40/50+ years ago don’t fall under the ‘vintage’ umbrella! I dress similar to how my grandma dressed during that time and she loves my look.
I so admire how eloquent you are with your thoughts. So measured, calm and thoughtful, your intelligence is so striking and what you have to say is so thought provoking. All this brilliance flowing from your head and yet you manage to be so humble and down to earth, I am astounded. You are magic! : )

You're inspiring me so much Devyn! I really wanna start dressing 60s and 70s but I really can't afford changing up my entire wardrobe and buy very sustainably clothes or authentic vintage inspired pieces (For example from the Hippie Shake), it's just too expensive. I only have some turtlenecks and mini skirts that look lowkey authentic, so it's really frustrating having to wear a lot of modern clothes from my wardrobe when I'm not feeling like it at all. You're really giving me the confidence, courage and faith not to lose my patience with this process of gradually changing my wardrobe with this video! And because of you I also start being less concious about trying to wear authentic 60s makeup thanks to your tutorials haha. Thank you so so much 🌼♥️
You can basically make anything look 60s and 70s if you get the right hair+makeup !! Keep on keepin' on
One tip I use is to look up the era and style you’re interested in dressing in and the item you’re having trouble styling to get some inspiration. However, if it’s a piece you can’t really find a good way to style that makes you feel good, try selling it (online, consignment shops, etc) to save up some shopping cash to buy pieces you will enjoy more and for longer. Those are usually the things I do to decide if I want to keep or even buy something. Hopefully that helps somewhat lol

Things I loved from this video: the intro with Andrew busting in the middle of filming 😁, the fact that you were able to speak out about sustainble fashion and was aware and mindful of people who cannot afford to live sustainably, and instead of roasting your earlier fashion choices, you were able to admire the growth/evolution from how you dressed 8 years ago to how you dress today ❤❤
I can relate to this for sure! You can see how a person slowly develops the full vintage style... you start out not really knowing where to buy the cool pieces you're drawn to / the things you see your favorite rock stars and artists wearing, you add a few key pieces from the places all your friends shop, you start discovering secondhand shopping... and then all of a sudden a majority of your wardrobe is comprised of these coveted items and you are a fully-realized vintage babe :) ... I have yet to reach that point...
i really like how you encourage collecting pieces over time! i'm currently trying to transition to a more 70s inspired vintage wardrobe and it's a bit frustrating (especially as a plus size woman) to not have the perfect wardrobe right at this moment but this video helped me have a more positive outlook and look forward to finding the perfect stuff as time goes on! i think it also helps you to focus less on trends and more on what you actually like bc you know you're planning on having that piece in your closet for a long time

I love your style evolution! I also got into 60s fashion and The Beatles in early 2010s. I had similar struggles of not finding my style quite yet and I couldn't afford to buy vintage and cute items. I love how non judgemental you were to your past self. That's something I have yet to learn. I feel like I hold myself back in expressing myself just for the fear of myself 10 years from now roasting me. Silly thing but it's real lol
ive always been into the 60s and 70s. im 14 atm but im just now looking for new clothing and hairstyles. the hard part is looking where to find new clothes. but i know once im older i’ll have a better advantage to change my style more :) im obsessed with vintage 😭💜

I dress pretty art deco 70s (when I have the chance to show off my velvet lol) , but super tomboy for the most part since I work at a grocery store. I like that you vary style-wise, you dress how you feel and I think thats the best way to be true to your self :)
