Let's see. The pomegranate and the dropped wine chalice for are both phenomenal symbolism with Penelope, as are the deflowering hints and the little wolf and owl for Telemachus. Then there's Odysseus lining up Antinuous with the axes as he strings his bow, that one dude on the floor recognizing him (and visibly freaking out) as Ody walks past with that scar on his leg and takes aim, and finally that glorious shot through all twelve axes. It's exactly what anyone would find the most cathartic way of fulfilling the challenge: also killing the bastard scheming to murder his son and assault his wife while doing so. Chef's kiss, perfect, absolutely gorgeous. I tip my hat to you, girl.
The shot in 1:44 of the flower quite literally getting deflowered is especially horrific because it reminds you that OF COURSE the suitors wouldn’t stop at just beating Telemachus up and killing him. They would want to defile him every way they could, especially since the disgusting practice of pederasty was still quite common during that time.
FINALLY someone Who also noticed! Every other Animatic Skips over the Fact, it's not just Penelope, and even forget Boys in Greek myths are Symbolized as Flowers....These Suitors are Full tilt Depraved Noblemen who think they can "Take" what/who they are "owed"! That means Full tilt!
Telemachus is 20, so I'm not sure if that term would apply. Unless it also applies to an older man and a younger man. But otherwise yeah I agree. The way Antinous says "slowly break his pride, his trust, his faith, and his bones" gave me the vibes that he'd do whatever he could to torture and humiliate Telemachus before actually killing him. And such a cruel death too, since throwing his remains in the sea would bar him from crossing the Styx in their beliefs.

Exactly why she was positioned upside down! To resemble a flower or wine spill more! In the end I thought the picture was going to be a bit triggering for some people so I made it really dark and hard to see. 😢 No way you noticed!

The pottery art is a great choice for that part of the song, and having a suitor recognize Odysseus by seeing him with the strung bow is perfect. The fervor and chaos of the suitor’s partying making stealth unnecessary, Ody can just walk up, string the bow, and shoot. Doesn’t matter if anyone sees him, they’re all to drunk to realize, or if they do, to petrified to do anything. From that suitor’s perspective, he’d probably assume he’s seen a ghost, because that is the least terrifying explanation. The dread of every teenager who held a house party and had their parent come home early times a million, but with deadly consequences.
Oh that final shot of Odysseus shooting the arrow through the axes and killing Antinuous was top shelf. I love how the hand crushing the pomegranate not only ties back to the flower imagery with Telemachus, but also is a very honest but artful way of showing what they plan to do with Penelope-- not to mention the way she lays on the ground looking like a trampled flower petal. I also really love how the white builds up around and obscures the throne @ 0:40 -- it really feels like the way deep snow builds up in drifts. Absolutely phenomenal work!
There's so much about this to love, but I have to say that having certain scenes look similar to Greek pottery art, having Odysseus in his beggar disguise lingering throughout the song, the smooth flight of the arrow through all twelve axes, and the one suitor's "Oh shit!" reaction when he recognizes Odysseus are all tied for my favorite aspects. You did an amazing job.
This musical has brought out the work of a lot of people but I want to say that out of all of the animatics I've seen for this song so far yours is definitively outstanding for imagery that I've seen. So very expressive with its detail without being overly in your face about it. There are so many things that you put in here that I want to talk about from the imagery of the old Grecian pottery and the plate shattering with a young Prince's face on it, to just how beautifully you've drawn everything. As well as I know it's been mentioned before by a lot of people the shooting of the arrow through the 12 ax heads after stringing the bow just like his wife had wanted, arrow landing directly into Antonius but not just into him a shot that was a perfect kill shot. Adding this because we're watching it again of course, it was definitively a striking experience to see the red outline of presumably Antonius appearing in Penelope's eyes. Very well done my friend

The colors in this are gorgeous. I love how the bright blue acts both as a contrast color to the violent red of the suitors, but also ties to the ocean and Poseidon. In many ways, Odysseus is "the thing that came from the sea," a monster the suitors can never beat

Stars above this is absolutely beautiful. From the way you animated the different segments, the colors used, and the shading! I cannot get enough of the frames of Odysseus walking while threading his bow and then getting a glimpse of the cold rage and hatred in those red orbs was done so well!
@Thanks! I feel like it fits like a glove. I see hot anger as something like a bomb going off, hot and quick, and not well thought out. However with what Odysseus heard of what was being planned and the actions leading up to him shooting, there is nothing there but cool calculation. It is the type of rage that cause a glacier to crack into the seas, slow but no less devastating. You did a fantastic job showing those emotions both in the way you drew his expressions but also the almost calmness to his actions as he walks into the room. There is nothing running, no shouting, just a quick and easy action of killing a man with one shot.

i LOVE the way your antinous design resembles scar from the lion king, idk if that was an intentional thought when you designed him or not but i think it fits him perfectly seeing as how theyre both cunning and power hungry and how thats what leads to their downfalls in the end of both stories

Also- the symbolism is on POINT And while they’re all plotting both Odysseus and Telemachus arrive ody to kill And Telemachus to steal all their weapons while they’re plotting as shown in “Odysseus” This animatic is 10/10 top notch. Odysseus shooting through the axes after fixing his bow and then killing Antinous, both winning the challenge and killing the leader of the suitors?? ATHENA'S PRESENCE AS AN OWL AND THEN TELEMACHUS SYMBOLISED AS A WOLF!??? I don't know how to explain this, but it's a very unique animation this one, thank you for this. There were so many visuals to this that just made this animatic beyond well done, the frost approaching the throne into the lone wolf to the owl (athena's patron animal) flying by, Odysseus showing up in several frames showing he's arrived at his palace, the pomegranate fruit representing....that of penelope, and then Ody stringing his own bow and completing Penelope's challenge was just....UGHHHH how many times have i watched this? Yes.
As I said on the short version, it's nice to see someone finally do ody's canonical shot through the axes. Glad his dog wasn't forgotten either. All together this is still by far my favorite depiction of this scene. Flawless.

The very very first time I listened to the full song without the canon animatics I wanted Odysseus to shoot Antinous through the axes and I was almost sad it wasn't in the livestream animatics but now finally I got to see it. It was awesome, seeing him come in, fury building up and stringing the bow and then completing the challenge all in one shot
I love everything about this, you made everyone so attractive yet flawed and you made our favorite villain disgustingly evil!!! The symbolism is phenomenal, the breaking of a ceramic disk, the use of a flower and pomegranate to say that they planned to violate Telemacus and Penelope!!! The transitions to show Telemacus as the wolf to him holding the spear! Ody being recognized by his scar and his hood falling as he succeeded in the challenges AND nailed Anti in the freaking neck in one go!!! There's so much about this to love, but I have to say that having certain scenes look similar to Greek pottery art, having Odysseus in his beggar disguise lingering throughout the song, the smooth flight of the arrow through all twelve axes, and the one suitor's "Oh shit!" reaction when he recognizes Odysseus are all tied for my favorite aspects. You did an amazing job.

This musical has brought out the work of a lot of people but I want to say that out of all of the animatics I've seen for this song so far yours is definitively outstanding for imagery that I've seen. So very expressive with its detail without being overly in your face about it.
There are so many things that you put in here that I want to talk about from the imagery of the old Grecian pottery and the plate shattering with a young Prince's face on it, to just how beautifully you've drawn everything. As well as I know it's been mentioned before by a lot of people the shooting of the arrow through the 12 ax heads after stringing the bow just like his wife had wanted, arrow landing directly into Antonius but not just into him a shot that was a perfect kill shot.
Adding this because we're watching it again of course, it was definitively a striking experience to see the red outline of presumably Antonius appearing in Penelope's eyes.

I know Ody didn't add it to the list of crimes by the suitors in his boss match, but I love the way you've drawn on the wider historical context for this. What a gorgeous animatic! I loved everything, but the use of ceramics was such a Greek motiff and a nice posible callback to Disney's Hercules. The moment when Telemachus' portrait shatters is *cheff kiss*

The colors in this are gorgeous. I love how the bright blue acts both as a contrast color to the violent red of the suitors, but also ties to the ocean and Poseidon. In many ways, Odysseus is "the thing that came from the sea," a monster the suitors can never beat

Stars above this is absolutely beautiful. From the way you animated the different segments, the colors used, and the shading! I cannot get enough of the frames of Odysseus walking while threading his bow and then getting a glimpse of the cold rage and hatred in those red orbs was done so well!

@Thanks! I feel like it fits like a glove. I see hot anger as something like a bomb going off, hot and quick, and not well thought out. However with what Odysseus heard of what was being planned and the actions leading up to him shooting, there is nothing there but cool calculation. It is the type of rage that cause a glacier to crack into the seas, slow but no less devastating. You did a fantastic job showing those emotions both in the way you drew his expressions but also the almost calmness to his actions as he walks into the room. There is nothing running, no shouting, just a quick and easy action of killing a man with one shot.

i LOVE the way your antinous design resembles scar from the lion king, idk if that was an intentional thought when you designed him or not but i think it fits him perfectly seeing as how theyre both cunning and power hungry and how thats what leads to their downfalls in the end of both stories

There were so many visuals to this that just made this animatic beyond well done, the frost approaching the throne into the lone wolf to the owl (athena's patron animal) flying by, Odysseus showing up in several frames showing he's arrived at his palace, the pomegranate fruit representing....that of penelope, and then Ody stringing his own bow and completing Penelope's challenge was just....UGHHHH how many times have i watched this? Yes.

The very very first time I listened to the full song without the canon animatics I wanted Odysseus to shoot Antinous through the axes and I was almost sad it wasn't in the livestream animatics but now finally I got to see it. It was awesome, seeing him come in, fury building up and stringing the bow and then completing the challenge all in one shot
