That moment when you realize both Les Miz and Phantom take place in Paris. So Raoul now lives a dual life as a paris schoolboy in the French Revolution and is stepping out on Christine for a chick named Cosette.
I think the problem we have here is that it isn't physically possible for Hadley to play Grantaire, Marius and Javert at the same time, perfect as that would be.
@@jslvr000 oh shit i did not think this through did i what if hadley does every single part and it's actually just hadley hallucinating his life when he's sick
What bothers me is that Hadley Fraser was in the Les Mis movie as an army officer.. -_- yet Russell Crowe was cast at Javert. With Hadley's musical talent and experience he should have had a much more prominent role in the movie if they were going to cast him in the first place.
Anna B. I'm six years late and you probably don't even care anymore but I don't think they would have casted someone so young for an around 40-50 y/o character in a movie.
@@Siegfried1917 With some good make up, I think that he could've been a great fit for this role. His voice was already mature so all he needed was some painted wrinkles in his face. That's my opinion of course
Exactly. Nick Jonas is a very good singer and portrayed a really sweet and young Marius but was completely drowned out by all the other performers. Was certainly no match for the legend that is Hadley Fraser. 😍
Hadley and Ramin are like.. Perfect at every stinking role! Hadley is a funny Grantaire, a good Javert, a lovable Raoul, and a good Marius now! An Ramin is really good at everything too.. And to top it off, they sing folk too! I love Hadley!!
I'm sure there must be a way of dubbing Hadley's Marius over Nick Jonas! He sounds so different now you would never know he was playing Marius and Grantaire 😀😀😀
This was the only song where NJ didn't have to "compete" with more powerful voices. It's almost painful to watch "drink with me" from the 25th. Everyone on that stage outperforms NJ without even trying.
@@darkiee69 He started in Broadway in 2003 (he was actually in _Les Mis_ as Gavroche that year), but there's a seven-year gap between that and the 25th so his voice hasn't developed into the style that's needed for musical theater.
It's not a common thing when one actor can be my favorite for several characters in a single musical. Seriously my favorite Javert, Marius, and Grantaire. Goodness, Hadley is the best!
Oh my god. He is so perfect as Marius. His youthful tone when he sang this is just so powerful and moving. He's aged marvelously. I rarely get chills listening to the more well known songs of musical theatre because I've heard like every cast recording. But this... Oh my god
He sounds so young! His voice has changed so much in the last ten years or so - he has such a powerful, rich quality to his gorgeous baritone now. Still an amazing performance though.
Michael Ball is the greatest ever Marius. His voice is beyond compare. However Hadley Fraser has a lovely voice as does Ramin Karimloo. Michael Ball will also be my favourite. :)
There's a grief that can't be spoken, There's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables, Now my friends are dead and gone. Here they talked of revolution, Here it was they lit the flame, Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came. From the table in the corner, They could see a world reborn, And they rose with voices ringing, And I can hear them now The very words that they have sung Became their last communion On this lonely barricade, at dawn. Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me What your sacrifice was for Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friend will sing no more.
No Nick's Empty Chairs brought me to tears. He was a perfect Marius because he captured the innocence in the beginning and showed the downturn into pain towards the end.
You can tell Hadley's voice anywhere, whether he's singing with Ramin in The Sheytoons or in pieces like this. It's just that strong and beautiful... That sort of bothered me about the movie that was recently made; there is such a deep well of musical talent they could have drawn out of, people who actually had experience with the roles, yet they hardly even dipped into it...
When I first heard that line, I had to know who that guy was. I had NO idea he was Hadley Fraser! I wish he had had a bigger role because his voice is flawless. Now I wish that he had been cast as Marius instead of Eddie.
Nick Jonas indeed put in a valiant effort, but it was plain to see (and hear) that he was being overwhelmed by the sheer talent and power of the rest. But perhaps after some years, he'll get better if he continues working really hard at it. It was at this moment that Marius grew from a boy to a man and one can't deny that Hadley nailed this.
Just found out that Fraser will be in the Les Mis movie playing the Army General of the National Guard, I love how I keep hearing about people that have been Les Mis veterans having little parts in the movie! Colm is perfect for the Bishop.
He looks a lot like a young Brad Pitt here! And this recording was from, what, 20-21 years ago? For such an old recording, the audio quality is so good!
That's ridiculous, of course it's possible, he's Hadley Freaking Fraser! And then there would be a random crossover cameo where Raoul just wandered across the stage being, well, sexy because, as I mentioned before, he is Hadley Freaking Fraser.
Truly a crime that they had him play Grantaire and not Marius in the 25th Anniversary concert. This is a very beautiful rendition but my favorite Marius and therefore my favorite version of this song will be Michael Ball.
But then Nick would have to sing Drink With Me, and Hadley's version of that was sheer perfection :p I agree, though. Nick is young and hasn't had the amount of vocal training needed for a show of this calibre.
"Phantom faces at the window." Don't worry, Hadley, it's just Ramin.
