The fact that you turned all that into a cohesive piano piece that still represents the original in all its glory and madness is worthy of all the appreciation
My piano teacher when I was eight years old would have died of a stroke upon hearing this abomination of song structure and time signature continuity. This is why I quit piano lessons to play baseball and fell in love with the Cardiacs 44 years later. Tim is the most creative song writer since Frank Zappa.
I spontaneously went up from my sofa for a standing ovation, now, inspired, typing as if I would transcribe a complex work of art but in doing so realise that I need much more complicated words to express myself and develop my technique properly.
A lot of Cardiacs songs translate beautifully to the piano, but this must surely be the most difficult of them all to do justice to. And you've gone and aced it here, man! It has a kind of "hybrid (solo-epoch)-William D. Drake/ Full-Cardiacs-Arkestra sound", the way you've done it. Like it's always been an aspect of the band and the song, and all you've done is gone and Excalibured it out of its stone to startle us so pleasantly. Thanks so much for this.
Please cover an entire Cardiacs album and throw it on Bandcamp. Hearing this on keys puts a stupid grin on my face. I think every Cardiacs fan would buy it up immediately. I'm sure you could manage to get approval to sell it.
There are times when you experience something like this and admire the brilliance of the performance (and this is superb) and then realise that this didn't exist before the genius that is Tim Smith sat down and put together a discordant assemblage of musical imagination to create this gem among so many marmitian masterpieces. The beauty lives on.
I'd love for someone to play that as one of their piano Grade pieces and to watch the examiner's face. Tim Smith was a genuine musical genius, and your interpretation is brilliant.
This wonderful crazy intelligent music piece is something like Beethoven meeting Mozart and the Brother Marx is trying to explain that met, which obviously goes lunatics! So great! Good effort on piano lad! 👍
When played on piano this composition reminds me of the late jazz pianist Herbie Nichols. Tim Smith was an incredible musician and performer. Well done sir for this performance.
I love how all Cardiacs cover you can find are being made by people who, you could easily say, look weird or somehow disturbed just by their attitude and looks ahah C'mon, a piano cover of TARRED AND FEATHERED played by a short haired teenager, wearing an undershirt, on a white upright piano in a semi empty room with a "punchinyourface" violet carpet. And of course, nailed it. And isn't that tremendously beautiful? this is a wonderful tribute, man. I admire you! :D
It's really wonky beauty as solo piano. Like Debussy doing a silent movie soundtrack but throw in more of his left field jazz obsessions but just as light and dynamic on the nuances. Absolutely lovely interpretation ❤️
I’ve been learning this piece on piano myself for the past couple of months, and I just have to say, I really am impressed with how well you’ve turned this song into a comprehensive piano composition. It’s very fun the play👍
I feel you honor Tim Smith with this rendition of this wonderful song. Also you are correct, I am enjoying your music on bandcamp. Thanks for the link and your songs.
Tim Smith was an awesome composer. You do him great justice! And the sheet is crazy! It reflects Tim/Cardiacs genius and your incredible arrangement. Very Good Friends sounds really cool, and I'll suggest people listen to your own music.
Absolutely worthy of all appreciation- Especially as we noticed those little grimaces-Which as all could musicians know- Are imperative to sound production
Wow......I'd say it takes a certain level of musical genius to interpret that song into a piano piece...So imagine the level of genius to CREATE it out of thin air... 🤯 A+ for you, A and a thousand plusses for Tim....😎👍
Just incredible, this is a gift to the world, reminding us of another gift to the world. RIP. I love how you really get into it around 0:40. The frenetic energy fits perfectly!
The fact that you turned all that into a cohesive piano piece that still represents the original in all its glory and madness is worthy of all the appreciation
Its also something that really highlights what a gobsmackingly intricate and complex piece of music tarred really is.
100%

Give me a minute to scrape my jaw off the floor
I spontaneously went up from my sofa for a standing ovation, now, inspired, typing as if I would transcribe a complex work of art but in doing so realise that I need much more complicated words to express myself and develop my technique properly.
Stripping the song back like this shows what a work of compositional genius it really is
Beautifully played. Farewell Leader of the starry skies.

Wow, this piece was complicated enough for a six-piece band let alone just one piano. Outstanding performance and brilliant arrangement.

Now it sounds like Prokofiev :)
Yeah, I can hear it!
A Prokofiev whose Stalin is general human stupidity
I was just about to comment the same xD

One of the best things I've ever seen on any category.

I'm absolutely amazed, I can't stop coming back to this.
I'm totally gobsmacked by this. Did Tim ever get to hear it?
That chaotic melody at the beginning just wound up sounding super beautiful and happy. Rather than chaotic and anxiety ridden.
This is fantastic! It sounds insane and beautiful, just like the original.
I now understand why people have compared Tim Smith to Beethoven haha.
It's like classical meets ragtime meets Raymond Scott meets Gentle Giant
Which is where half of it came from in the first place. And you can hear the English hymn tunes, folk songs more clearly too.
You are officially my favorite person.
The chorus from the pond is "Laudation" Bring us more !!
Un ...fucking..believable.
Amazing. Just found the cardiacs this month and it has changed my life. Super kudos buddy.
Well done! When the Cardiacs meets Prokofiev!
This is just amazing both in arrangement and performance
This is so splendorous!
This wonderful crazy intelligent music piece is something like Beethoven meeting Mozart and the Brother Marx is trying to explain that met, which obviously goes lunatics! So great! Good effort on piano lad! 👍
Okay, I promise, before I die, I'll do a full reduction for five string bass.
Amazing job and really inspiring
This is fantastic. I'm really impressed with how accurate your transcription/arrangement is, especially the part at 0:23. Thanks for sharing!
Second that!
All the gods praise you! Phenomenal!🙏💰
Superb! Brought a little tear to my eye, the end bit did. Lovely, innit.
Incredible. Just incredible.
Kudos to you for pulling this off. Amazing! Fuck, I miss Tim...and Cardiacs...the world needs them.
mind blown. I never thought I'd hear a piano rendition of anyu Cardiacs tune, let alone find the sheet music for it. Many thanks
Oh my God, my best song of Cardíacs, tks my friend, 🎩🚭♿
I keep coming back to hear you play this again and again! Epic
A magnificent interpretation of a magnificent piece. Thank you.
Great composition. With a world class player - would be lovely.
You are bonkers for trying that! ... totally awesome!
Astonishingly impressive transcription / rendition of vintage Cardiacs. An album's worth in a song - as is every Cardiacs composition. Excellent.
When played on piano this composition reminds me of the late jazz pianist Herbie Nichols. Tim Smith was an incredible musician and performer. Well done sir for this performance.

It's really wonky beauty as solo piano. Like Debussy doing a silent movie soundtrack but throw in more of his left field jazz obsessions but just as light and dynamic on the nuances. Absolutely lovely interpretation ❤️
Wonderful, it makes you realise just how brilliant the original composition was. That was awesome!
That was absolutely brilliant.
Fantastic job, well done. Reminds me a little of Bartok and Ligeti.
I do hope Tim got to see this vid before he left this mortal plane. I'm certain he would have adored it.
Absolutely outstanding
Yes sir, that hit the spot! Well done!
Stunning and mesmerising from beginning to end. And a testament to the genius of Tim Smith (and your own).
I’ve been learning this piece on piano myself for the past couple of months, and I just have to say, I really am impressed with how well you’ve turned this song into a comprehensive piano composition. It’s very fun the play👍
