Actually it's a human fault that we tend to follow John. One influential person writes a piece on a kid and the rest will follow suit.
Some promoting is not done for the right reason, but for future profits for agents.
It's similar to the art scam.
Buy up a lot of pieces from a decent artist. Then promote the artist by using your network of contacts in media and finance. Put some of it on the auction market and buy it back your self with a jacked up price. Then cash in 20 years later when you sell the art on auctions when prices are much high.
I see it with sports players as well in north America. In Europe, not that common. Here you have to deliver first.
You can put a decent player between two stars and the guy will rack up points due to the environment. If the opposite happens it can ruin a career.
I wouldn't be surprised if money gets paid for a spot on a team under the table or masked as sponsoring the team.

Maybe it's a lot of undrafted European players in NHL.

ARE YOU EMPLYING THE NHL HAS SOME SORT OF BIAS WHEN IT COMES TO DRAFTING NORTH AMERICAN PLAYERS OR EUROPEAN?!

@@v4v819 Yes, exactly that. Every year there are several thousand new players in Sweden. There is just no system to scout them all.
What I have noticed is that one tournament for 15 year olds dictates everything(TV-pucken). Those players who are not picked for the regional training camps at age 14, the season before the tournament will not be considered for hockey gymnasiums. The scouting starts January 1st. This year it's 2010 kids. 2009 kids play the tournament this year. There are three levels of hockey gymnasiums. National, regional and local. However only national pick none local players normally. National gymnasiums have a tendency to not pick local kids or just one or two. The other two levels pick 90% or more local players. It has to do with local/regional schools having two tiers in accepting students. Non locals end up in second tier where the grades doesn't matter. Local kids always go first even with bad grades.
These kids end up playing in J18 leagues. There are two levels in all areas except Stockholm who has three.
It is basically impossible to advance since teams and schools are so connected. Kids don't change teams because it means you have to move to another city and school. And teams normally don't take in new players who already played a season in J18, because it means somebody else loose a spot.
So, if you are not noticed at age 13 you can't go anywhere until second year of J20. In Stockholm you can change teams because the distances are not large. It's the exception. The Swedish national team start up at age 16. The roster of 15 year olds are basically the same up to age 19.
You can be a great player, but be stuck in a local team and never get noticed! Because NHL teams don't look further then the national team and top 10 teams in the national J18 league.
My kid was injured during a large part of the J14 season. He was on the TV pucken roster for Dalarna despite that.
But his mother thought it was better to go to Russia for a vacation during last summer camp.
So, after second to last training matches he was cut, not because of performance but because other kids showed up to the summer camp and they where chosen because of that.
He was called in because of an injury 30 minutes before game start to the last practice game, but it was a one hour drive to the game, so he declined.
That meant in retrospect that national gymnasiums would not pick him.
Now we have found a team that play in the national league for him to play in, Hudiksvall. We went there for training sessions and a camp to join their J18 team.
He was the only not local one from the camp to get a spot on the team.
He doesn't have a class in school yet(see above reason), therefor he can't get a dorm room. So I have rented an apartment for US$500 per month.
Most likely Hudiksvall will struggle in the league and that will have an effect on points scoring for my kid. Much like the two last seasons that he played in the last team in the league Mora IK.
The Swedish system is crazy! And I say that NHL scouts needs to broaden their views.
Can you imagine playing in Kazakhstan or Thailand!!!! What chance do they have!
My son, who is the fastest skater in Sweden and maybe in the world, at least when compared to the times clocked in the NHL skill games.
