Test with a hygrometer and if the overhydrated packs let off too much, leave them on the counter until the weight is back to within a couple grams and try again. Id rather have to let them dry back out a little and be patient with the recharging process than have to shell out several hundred a year on new packs
Don't over think it people! Recharge using distilled water I submerge mine in a Ziploc for 3 days don't matter weight will still give off same humidity (have hydrometer for added insurance) and that's it!
It would be interesting if you put the 89g in a plastic container with a humidity meter for 24 hours just to see the difference , provided the old one and new one are marked the same humidity.
If you overhydrate a 69% it’s going to hit low 70s. If you rehydrate slowly you can measure the mass of the packet until it’s close to the original weight.
I never ever had a problem maintaining my desired humidity level with recharged packs. Of course they want you to buy more. They’d tell you to buy a new shot glass for distilled water if you humidify the old school way and they sold the shot glasses
In my experience, the overcharged 65RH and 69RH packs only push the humidity slightly above their rating. The 72RH packs are a different story though. They consistently put my footlocker up to 75-76RH @64*-67*, and that’s measuring with three hygrometers in three different spots inside.
Just got a 72RH pack from a buddy that weighted 45g. I did the paper towel recharge method for a few days and got it to 61g because the paper exterior was damp. I let it dry to 60g and threw it in a boveda bag with a calibrated Oasis Caliber IV hygrometer. I'm getting 78RH.
Same, I have been re-charging my Boveda packs for the past two years now. I even got to the point where I use Large, %84 Boveda packs, to re-charge my %69 Boveda packs, Large and Small. I just stick them into Humidification bags. Like the ones you get from "Cigar of the Month" clubs. Then, recharge the %84's with Distilled water in a Safe and concealed container. Obviously keeping the Boveda packs Away from Touching the water. Not sure if it is Efficient however it seems to work fine. No mould or cigar beetles as of yet!!! 🤗 🍻
hey, if it works it works, and i think that is a better way of doing it because then you let the boveda pack absorb what it can instead of just overdosing it with water essentially ruining it or potentially causing the cigars to mold because the humidity had gotten too high.
I have not. I change my packs so often it doesn't affect me at all if they are slightly overcharged. I mainly made this video for people to think and maybe do some experiments on their own. I will have a follow-up to this video because I do have some ideas on how to test whether they're overcharging or not

The trick is to rehydrate before they dry out. Be proactive rather than reactive.

That's a really great idea.
I have some new hygrometers coming, I may do that test. Thanks!
Awesome! For the life of me I couldn't think of the name hygrometer! LOL

I've never had a problem either.
The question that I was asked just made me think a little bit
How do you recharge yours?
@@JimmyKay1976 place packs in glass Pyrex. Fill with distilled water. Give them about 2 days to absorb. Voila
@@johnnymetallica1039 Do they give off the same humidity? I've heard different outcomes
@@JimmyKay1976 never had a problem. Like anything, they degrade with time, but I get more than a few recharges out of them
I recharge and have had no issues thus far several years down the road

@someguy1717 very interesting
Update: currently sitting at 75RH (+3) after almost 24hrs

Have you tried not leaving the paks that long with the distilled water to prevent getting above 61g?

Well that was helpful.
Weigh them brand new, weigh them dry... put them in a box with the exact difference of distilled water...done
Exactly
Would this work with calibration ki?
Why don't you test it?
i sure regret waisting 3 min on this video. Why do you make a video telling viewers that YOU DON'T KNOW. Nobody can learn anything from this video.
