- Simple Spaghetti Sauce with Ground Beef
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup medium onion, diced
1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced or 2 tsp. garlic powder
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 to 2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
1 to 2 tsp sugar
1 tsp dried oregano
1 to 2 basil leaves
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet or pot, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil.
Add the diced onions, red bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Combine Ingredients:
Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.
Season the Sauce:
Add the salt, sugar, oregano, basil leaves, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
Simmer:
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the more the flavors will meld together.
Adjust Seasoning:
Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt, pepper, or sugar to balance the flavors.
Serve:
Serve the sauce over cooked spaghetti noodles. Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil if desired.
