That along with his tone at that part suggests he let go. Normally in any movie/play/etc if someone falls then music gets more dramatic in order to raise suspense and tension but at that part both the music and Even became very slow and sad, giving a tone of grief which could be taken as him hinting that when the branch "gave way" he actually means his grip gave way (aka he let go). Super sad but very well hinted at if you understand reading between the lines. :)
I usually never comment on videos but I can't help it. I have to comment on this one. This was BY FAR the best Sincerely, Me animatic I've ever seen!!! Not only were the ideas and little details amazing to the point where one must watch it multiple times to truly understand its glory, but the style itself and the FANTASTIC facial expressions are what really got me. This style is so fluid and what strives it away from other styles is that you know what you're doing with it. By that I mean you have a very firm grasp on what things should look like normally so you can make it look cartoony yet the way they move is so... Real? If that makes any sense. I admire it!!! I look forward to seeing more of your work!
