  • Hey everyone,
    In this video, I have talked about the VHF Omnidirectional range (VOR). I have covered everything possible from the practical point of view on how to read the instrument and the type of questions that can be asked from this radio navigation instrument.
    This video will be quite helpful to the people who are starting their instrument rating as this covers a lot of topics used in VOR tracking.
    Make sure you have watched the previous videos on topics like QDM, QDR, QUJ, CDMVT, track, heading, drift, track made good and track error.
    Questions covered in this video:-
    - The OBS on a deviation indicator is set to 330° and gives a 3 dots fly right demand with from indicator. What is the QDM of the aircraft?
    - An aircraft is homing towards a VOR which marks the centre line of an airway. The beacon is 100 nms distant. If the pilot had the airway QDM set on the OBS, what deflection of the deviation indicator would be given if the aircraft was on the boundary of the airway?
    - An a/c tracking away from a VOR on a heading of 287°M with 14° starboard drift. If the variation is 6°W, what is the phase difference between the reference and variable phase components of the VOR transmission?
    - An a/c flying on a heading of 280°M is on a bearing of 180° M from the VOR. What will be the bearing from the VOR that should be selected on the OBS to centralise the VOR deviation needle?
    - An a/c is on radial 120° with a magnetic heading 300°, the track selected (OBS) reads 330. What are the indications on the CDI?
    - You are on a compass heading 090° on the 225 radial from a VOR. You set the course 190° on your OBS. Deviation bar will show?

    Hey just a quick reference to 50:04 when you drew the mini VOR. Wouldn’t the green line be completely perpendicular to the 1.5 degree, which the aircraft is drawn being parallel to that airways?

    at a range of 50 nm from a VOR designated the centerline of an airway,an aircraft, tracking east, is on the northern edge of the airway. if the airway is 10nm wide the CDI(5 dot) indication will be:

    46:41 The width of the airway is 10NM (+/- 5). Therefore each dot represents 1NM. If you are at the boundary of the Airway (5NM) then why is there not 5 dots of deviation on the CDI?

    CVOR wasn't really "rotating" actually they were fixed. It was the electrical supply who used a rotating capacity coupling
