Miner here, please for the love of all things holy invest in the bare minimum of O2 and CO detectors. Even in active mines with working ventilation you can have pockets of CO that you will walk into and never walk out of. And that's ignoring the stability of the rock and infrastructure.

I always find it fascinating what the view of the expert is against the view of the non-expert. We see rock tunnels. Maybe some dead air. But your a miner. What must you see when you look at the tunnels and the mountain.

Bro, you have done all this traveling and exploring and shit, yet you don't even carry a basic lockpicking set with you? That lock on the mine at the end is like the most simple of simple locks. In fact, you could have got that lock off just by hitting it with a rock or something. But because you do not want to do any damage, etc, that is why I bring up a simple lockpicking set. You could unlock it and lock it back when you're done that way, and no one would ever be the wiser. Plus, if you are ever in a hairy situation, it could give you a different outlet of escape.

If you ever explore abandoned mines like this, watch out for stagnant water. If it is stagnant, it can absorb toxic gases released by mining of some types of minerals. when you step in that water, or disturb it, it will un-trap those toxic gases and release them into the tunnel. Worst thing about this is that you won't know for sure if you released/inhaled those toxic gases until you start getting symptoms. Luckily in your case most of the mine water was flowing somewhere, which means there is less chance for gases to get trapped. Just watch out for those puddles that aren't moving whatsoever. Also, absolutely do not under any circumstance swim in the cave water. You and your buddies are extremely brave to do something like this, It's honestly really impressive.

@@ilhamtlam5250 It depends on the location. Some mines aren't as hazardous, some are very hazardous. Miners use gas masks in some mines for this particular reason. Some of the toxic gases won't kill you instantly, they might just screw something up with your body.
The gases in these abandoned mines can be poisonous. If they are not, the lack of oxygen from those gases filling the tunnels could suffocate you over time, and some gases can even be accidentally ignited. There are LOTS of dangers regarding the gases within mines.

@@brianritchie75 Surprise! Kind of random, but I just happen to be a antique weapons dealer, so I am a bit of a steel nerd. This is such a weird myth my dude. Steel technology has actually improved since then and there is much better steel alloys today compared to the pre 1970s, both in purity, tensile strength and toughness. Recycled steel looses no properties from being recycled and is 100% as strong as new steel smelted from iron ore. I guarantee you modern structural steel like on a ladder is going to be just as good or better today than it was in the 1970s or before.
The only odd thing is pre 1940s steel was different because modern steel is more radioactive due to nuclear weapons. Doesn't really effect strength but it is kind of mind blowing that virtually all steel since the nuclear bomb was invented has elevated radioactivity.

I have never commented on this Channels content before.. But after watching 3 minutes of this video I had to express my concern..My uncle is a retired coal miner that worked 4 miles underground for 35 yrs..He was just beginning to think about his retirement when one afternoon a wall that was secured by the safety guidelines of ACMA came crashing down on top of him..When they finally dug him out and he was airlifted to the closest hospital he was rushed into surgery.. Let's just say he is lucky to be alive because the surgeon told my aunt that the edge of the wall missed his heart by only 2 centimeters ..It took him a good 6 months of healing and therapy to be able to return to work..He had been back.on the job for 3 weeks when another accident happened this time he lost over half of his ring finger
. That was it for him and he put in for his retirement..I am not here judging anyone but I literally got chill bumps watching all of you climbing around in a mine that is unstable and should never have ppl crawling or climbing around in .I know this will either be laughed at or ignored probably both due to the age group that follows this UA-camr..This is scary stuff and hopefully it will not be attempted again..I am not attacking or putting anybody down what I have shared is done out of concern.. Let's just say I could share many stories about mines due to growing up in a mining town.. However,I decided not to and I will leave like this .Take care and be blessed..

I was also born and raised and live in west Virginia. One of the places which host some of the worst disasters in mining history. My great great grandfather lost his arm, his leg, and an eye in a collapse and narrowly survived after days, my great granfather lost 3 inches of bone in his left leg due to beinh crushed and was stuck in a mine for a month with letters of condolence already being sent out, my other great great grandfather died in the 1964 pond gap mining disaster with my uncle (one of his sons) and my current grandfather survived the upper big branch mine disaster. These places are dangerous and lethal. Gas ranging from CO, methane, H2s, can all be present. A lack of oxygen can exist in these places, explosive coal dust can remain is some cases, and they are unkept and havent been maintained for decades. You stay out of these places or YOU WILL DIE. PSA: ROE about going into rickety mines
    1. don't touch the ceiling and supports. If you have to crawl through bat sh!t as your only option to not touch either of those, you go for the bat sh!t and you enjoy it.
    2. if the sound of your voice becomes muffled, that's danger zone. That means the area is unstable. Get out or be extremely careful.
    3. should bring an oxygen meter, even if it's a sh!tty one. Trust me on this. In mines, carbon monoxide poisoning is the least of your concerns.
    4. TNT sticks. Don't play with them. I've seen several TNT sticks that had been inside mines for decades if not almost 100 years still explode (when triggered with a device). Several videos in fact, exist on this. Short of them being waterlogged, assume they're dangerous, best to leave them be.
    5. last, but not least, consider all floors are false floors. You never know when you're on rock solid ground, a thin layer of rock from another level or cut bellow or just plain false floor on top of old rotten wooden supports and planks. This means, don't stomp in mines. Walk like a cat that's about to eat the chicken from the owner's plate because they weren't paying attention. You're stealth incarnate in a mine.
Just saying these because there's been more and more videos of mine exploration lately, and not all people (not saying Shiey and friends) are aware of the dangers in mines. I've personally fallen 4 meters through a false floor once and it's not a pleasant experience.
Mines are fun, but they're also just about the most dangerous place on planet earth short of walking through a minefield blindfolded and on metal stilts. Mines suffer no fools and a lot of people die in them post factum.
One last thing for any intrepid explorer, if you happen upon an old, old mine and you see cool stuff... don't ruin it. Some pretty amazing things lie hidden inside them, like 100+ yo hobnail boot prints from mines probably younger than a good percentage of the viewership or as young.
That's all, just wanted to say this, nothing more. Have a nice day!

    • @boxcarz
      @boxcarz 24 дні тому

TNT sticks have the especially interesting property of the explosive leeching out over time, forming sensitive crystals on the outside of the stick, which may go off and blow up the entire stick if you disturb the stick and break the crystals. So, to reiterate: DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THE OLD TNT STICKS IN MINES!

    Ok, CO/O2 meter(s) are essential.
In addition you may - at least - wanna remember:
    1. If there is stagnant water DO NOT disturb it.
    2. If your voice sounds muted rather than echoey, DO NOT proceed. That means the rock is more likely to be weak (like it's powdered up).
    3. ALWAYS ensure there's emergency backup. Like: you don't get out of this place in a few hours, someone gets someone out to find you.
No kidding, man. I know you do sketchy stuff, but old mines are next-level dangerous; it's your life, but: these kinds of places kill people real easy...

As someone who's lost friends to the mining accidents, I'm not digging this one too much. Very dangerous to go into collapsed mines without first letting other people knowing where you are--especially in unsafe conditions like collapsed mines, and flooded mines. I did a lot of caving in my youth, and we had lots of close calls doing stuff like this. Adventure and exploration is cool, but please, oh please, use your heads a little. You're lucky that you didn't have a tragedy take place. I have confidence that Shiey has experience, wisdom and common sense, but Matt taking off on his own in an unfamiliar, dangerous place like this is really not too bright. Excitement or not, you have to show more common sense, Matt. You gotta think of your friends as well. It's important to stick together. Before going into any cave or mine, you also need to be damn sure you have good lights, back-up lights, and extra batteries and bulbs. Impromptu situations like this can end up disastrous. You guys are so, so lucky. We all make mistakes, but please learn from this one. I know that a big thrill of these adventures is living on the edge. Been there, done that. Just use your heads, and work together to stay as safe as you can, guys.

not to be a downer, but personally i think these videos are most enjoyable when they strike a balance between risk and precaution. this just felt like a complete hazard. not in the typical ‘cool exploration’ way i’m used to on this channel. the ignorance was just frustrating.
an abandoned mine is a death trap. you’ve got unstable structures, dangerous gases, and weather conditions adding to the mix. get your hands on an o2 monitor or something as a bare minimum. it could be a literal lifesaver.
as for your exploration buddy… i’m sure he’s a great guy who got caught up in adrenaline but in this particular situation, running off is not just a minor inconvenience; it's a legitimate safety concern.

A lot of things he does are crazy. But Camping < Urbexing < Train surfing < Cave/mine exploration.
Trains are already crazy but going into unnown caves is just insane and there are more than enough examples of horrendous stories. At least the trains or the electricity kill you instantly. The worst part in a cave is suffering of hunger and dehydration for days while you are stuck or in a weird position. Or just dying slowly due to oxygen etc.

It is worth waiting every single day until you release a new one. Matt's behavior in the mine was somehow uncool. I don't want that this lost place thing gets more public attention as it already has. Especially in Europe. Seriously injured or even dead explorers wouldn't help. Stay save my friend!

5 seconds in, a guy points at a thing. he says "we need to get up this thing". I'm then completely hooked and invested in this video. Such great work shared with us. thanks for this.

When I was younger, I used to wander through the Forrest. I used to come across old shacks, makeshift bridges and a ton of mason bottles buried in the ground.
My highschool history teacher offered to drive me home after school if I wanted to stop by her house and pick up a kitten, since her cat just had a litter. On the way to my house she said,
"Oh wow, you live here? This used to be an old secret highway to the nearest city that bootleggers used to transport moonshine"
I'm 25 now and chronic pain and lack of mobility from an undiagnosed illness keeps me from exploring like I used to, but I'm glad you make awesome vids I can watch to fill some of that curiosity I had for abandoned structures. Thanks so much! ❤

Separating in mines is the worst, should keep within sight of each other, even sound doesn't travel far in most mine environments.

Once again, experiencing more heart pounding adrenaline than most action/horror films watching your videos. Previous masterpiece was hiking the Tatra Mountain Valley Peaks where falling was a constant threat.
