That's what I thought until I gave it a try. Love the look and feel of it after using it. It's not trying to be hardware, or emulate hardware like every other plugin. This thing is a wild beast, very coloured and full of character. Much like a Tarantino movie, exaggerated but good. The look of it matches the sound of it. @@glowaves there is no typical saturators, everything with no dynamic modifications that generates 2nd or 3rd harmonics can be called saturators. Good review. I kinda like the Safari Pedals plugins. And ironically, I first paid attention to them exactly BECAUSE of their graphics. I figure that any company that's willing to have some fun with the looks of their product has the confidence that the performance will stand up to the test. And they sure do. 🙂
If they would have sold this as an ultra transparent limiter with musical program dependency, and a more serious UI, it would have been taken well, more seriously. However, considering that there are tons of limiters marketed exactly as such, it would be guaranteed to be “just another limiter”. Although gimmicky, it does stand out. Im surprised how transparent it is considering how absolutely frenetic the meter is. Perhaps an alternate UI would give the best of both
I’m a fan of the fun - all their “pedals” have the fun factor to go along with how good they sound. That’s why I got into making music to have fun. I crack up when I open them up - and clients love them. Fun and sounds great is a combo that has been missing in the plug-in world
I agree, they should package it differently. I do exactly what you said, and dismiss plugins based on their looks, as if they are doing all this crazy graphics, I automatically think it's because they are trying to make up for a lacking somewhere in the sound. This to me looks like a guitar pedal, not a super musical limiter! It actually sounds really nice. It's not particularly clean, but then what it does add, is really pleasant and musical.
@@safaripedals Yeah it doesn't look bad, and I'm sure certain people prefer colourful plug ins like this.
