AMAZING TRICK for a Fast and Easy Crab King as Wickerbottom | Don't Starve Together

- Welcome to another Don't Starve Together guide. Today I'm showing you a method I've been developing for fighting a pearled Crab King as Wickerbottom, with the help of her grumble bees. Now bees are great for Crab King because they can't be hurt and do a lot of damage. The big obstacle to using them is keeping them unfrozen as Crab King casts his ice spell. Fortunately Wicker has an amazing hack for keeping them thawed out, and I will show you the whole strategy in this video.

Like any good librarian, Ms. Wickerbottom believes in the preservation and distribution of knowledge. Well… most knowledge, that is. There are some things that must be kept hidden away from the eyes of the public. Who knows what could happen if certain secrets fell into the wrong hands?
The Wickerbottom Refresh is now available on Steam and will be available on Xbox and Playstation shortly. Nintendo Switch will be getting this refresh in an upcoming update as we work toward unifying game versions on console.
Changes:
Wickerbottom can no longer be forced to fall asleep.
Wickerbottom can now craft the following new books: The Angler's Survival Guide; Pyrokinetics Explained; Overcoming Arachnophobia; Tempering Temperatures; Lux Aeterna; Practical Rain Rituals; Lunar Grimoire; Apicultural Notes; Horticulture, Expanded; The Everything Encyclopedia; Lux Aeterna Redux.
Wickerbottom can also build a cabinet to help conserve her books.
Tuned Wickerbottom’s stats when it comes to eating stale and spoiled food and her health.
Shadow Creatures now Spawn when Wickerbottom attempts to read her books while insane
From 2019-2021, Klei has released a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them."
"Eye of the Storm" is the final installment in this series of updates and adds the Moonstorm event, a surprise NPC character, and the Celestial Champion to the game. This will complete the Mysterious Energy quest which begins with the discovery of the lunar island and completion of all three celestial altars. It is the longest endgame quest in the game and offers a number of unique benefits to your world and character, such as infinite full moon nights, renewable moon glass, and infinite light in the form of a crown and shards.
"Reap What You Sow" is the seventh major release of updates under the Return of Them in Don't Starve Together and replaces traditional farms with a completely revamped farming system which includes tillable farm plots, unique farming equipment, crop displays, and numerous fertilizers. The system is considerably more complex but provides a system for year-round farming and the potential for highly-accelerated crop production.
The debris from the moon didn't just reach the forest. It's influence has penetrated down into the caves as well, not only mutating its already strange occupants, but opening areas that had been long forgotten. Forgotten Knowledge is the sixth major release of updates under the Return of Them theme and adds two new cave biomes: the Lunar Grotto and the Ancient Archives. It also adds several new mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and two crafting stations including another moon altar and a station for crafting natural turf.
Troubled Waters, the fifth Don't Starve Return of Them update, added new ocean mobs, foods, craftables, structures, and eight new crockpot recipes. It also added leafy meat as a crockpot ingredient and renewable volt goat herds.
She Sells Seashells went live in April 2020. An Island fragment of the moon has left a lonely creature stranded. Is it friendly? Time will tell. New features include messages in bottles, the moon fragment island, the Crabby Hermit, Crab King, new seasonal fish, the Wobster and Wobster Den the Winch Boat structure, sunken treasures, and singing shells.
"Hook, Line, & Inker" will be remembered as the big fishing update. We finally have the tools we need to go sailing and fish around literally anywhere in the ocean. This update added over a dozen new ocean mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and tons of new craftable items and structures. Most of these new additions are tailored toward the goal of dramatically expanding the fishing experience in DST.
Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer expansion of the uncompromising wilderness survival game, Don't Starve. Now including Reign of Giants; adding new characters, seasons, creatures, biomes, and Giant new challenges to Don’t Starve Together. Cooperate with your friends in a private game, or take your chances with strangers online. Work with other players to survive the harsh environment, or strike out on your own. Do whatever it takes, but most importantly, Don't Starve.

looks like after the 1st freeze all the bees unfrozen by the book will be in sync with eachother so you cant stop heals effectively beyond that freeze, but their dps is far superior to his healing so not much harm done
It all depends on the timing honestly. In this fight the bees all attacked immediately after the healing animation, but if they all attack during the animation they'll cancel. I've done other practice fights where the majority of heals got cancelled. It's a bit random but thankfully doesn't make that big of a difference.

A living frotress that fell from the moon,
or
13 angry bees

I actually used this method on my first full playthrough but i didn't think about the tempering book and used alot of ice staffs and had to be quick so he didn't freeze me and i failed,good work on perfecting this strategy even more jazzy!
Oh my gosh thank you Jazzy. I have never fought crab king until recently and I see why everyone hates him. I spent like 2 hours last week trying to kill him and it was just an awful experience haha
If you aren't Wicker, the killer bee method works well too.
Crab King sure has a long history of being harrased by bees in the middle of the ocean
TT thawing frozen mobs was implemented after someone suggested it on the forums. They suggested it for CK fight specifically :P
Oh cool! Makes a ton of sense because I haven't found a ton of use for the thawing ability outside this battle.

I know this is on crab king but you gave me an idea to cheese malbatross probably without even having to attack him. If you can use on tentacles on a boat (I'm not sure if you can I've never tried it) then you can use an oar to bring yourself over to malbatross and just aggro the tentacles. You might be wondering "How do I set this up without the tentacles killing me?" Place lureplants for where you want no tentacles to spawn and just go crazy. I would test if this works myself but I don't know how to do these tests in creative.
I remember fighting Crab King as a Wolfgang with the host being wanda during summer... It took a LOT of attempts with even 1 attempt failing due to the wanda accidentally starcaller staffing right on top of Crab King!

Is crab king considered wet for the consideration of elect attacks?
Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid getting sunk? I am Wanda with my partner (Wickerbottom) and our boat always get sunk. I have her with 3 ice staffs hitting while I hit with an old Wanda. Once the bubbles arise we have 6 holes in our boat and we literally instantly drown. How do you prevent that? I'm watching your videos and others and the boats don't even get hit once. I assume its the ice staff but we are also using multiple ice staffs!

How about using ice staffs for the ice attack as well. Then it would work on more characters with followers
I learned recently that if you put enough distance between yourself and CK then he won’t do the ice cast at all! So if you’re relying on followers for DPS then just keep your distance and freeze/cancel the geysers and you’re money.
Why do you need anchore? I think you haven't used it.
Makes it easier to position the boat precisely.

Sure but it’s not really necessary.
@@JazzysGames another question. Would merms be even more efficient? I know boat space is limited which might make it more annoying to do but would it be quicker than using grumble bees?
But why not just collect 30 angry bees with 3 nets and drop them next to Crabking?
Pan flute once then go a bit further and wait until they get aggro. Or use a beemine.
I do not enjoy cheesing bosses, personally.

To avoid him to cast the freeze attack, you just need to stay away...which slasher did.
Thing is you have to stay close or the bees will lose aggro. The reason Slasher didn't have to deal with freezing was because it was a non-pearled CK with purple gems.

CK definitely doesn't cast freeze if you're really far away.
Again, grumble bees lose aggro if you're too far away.
