  • The NASCAR Hall of Fame switches out its "Glory Road" exhibit only once every three years. The all new set of historic cars has just been released! We went to meet up with Tom Jensen, who is the manager of curatorial affairs at the HOF. Tom was part of the team configuring and selecting the cars to be on display. He takes us up the road sharing a story or two about every car in there. We also go into the main hall where 2023 inductees Matt Kenseth, Kirk Shelmerdine (Dale Earnhardt's crew chief), and Herschel McGriff's items are on display!

Love how the tour guide is talking as if he isn't speaking to a seasoned Nascar fan bc I'm certain a lot of people that come through these tours might not even have known about Richard Childress being a driver and how his career played out. Which is in itself a pretty inspiring story that shows that just because you aren't the best at something doesn't mean you can't pave out a great career if you're willing to put in the work. Another great video Mitchell!

Thanks for the tour. I asked Ryan Newman why Darlington chewed up tires so fast, he said that the asphalt had sea shells in the mix, which was unique. Every track was unique to tire wear. I am fascinated on the older cars, late 80's and older, by how they were built and raced. Always wanted to do a nascar themed build of a mid 70's Monte Carlo or Laguna, like Childress' car.

Robert Huffman son races as well, and has been using his dad's old race shop, fixing it up, while winning his first Nascar weekly series championship out of that shop at Hickory Motor Speedway. Landon Huffman has his own UA-cam channels with one of them dedicated to behind the scenes racing endeavors, and the other dedicated to the podcast he recently began doing. Landon and his crew are a hoot, and I enjoy interacting with them, and yes I would definitely follow what Landon is doing including if he manages to get to Nascar's top three series, even know that pains me to say.

I got to go to the Hall of Fame in 2013. That place is VERY special to me being from Rome NY. My dad helped Richie Evans build his first oval car, the Green PT 109. With Richie now in the Hall of fame, a picture of the car my father helped build sits in that building and is part of the video that plays at Richie's spot in the hall of honor. My dad and grandpa were licensed NASCAR drivers on the local level for a few years, so to see some kind of trace of his racing past sitting in the hall of fame is just something I can't wrap my head around. A small part of my dad is always going to be a hall of fame visit away and I'm so lucky to have that.

He's been doing some neat stuff running his late models out of his dad's old race shop, which they have been in the process of restoring to it's old glory. When the Dale Earnhardt souvenir trailer made its way to Texas Motor Speedway in the 2001 season, thousands of fans and I graffitied their goodbyes to The Intimidator on the trailer from top to bottom. You should've asked the tour guide when Smokey Yunick was going to be inducted! 😄At least they had his '67 Chevelle on Glory Road a few years ago. I know you do a lot of History Tours around the NC area but down in Daytona there's a lot of history too; not just at the track but in town as well, Smokey's shop might be a vacant lot today but his Daughter Trish or the Flis Brothers (Todd or Troy at Flis Performance, they might not compete in Cup but they have been involved in pro motorsports in Daytona for 30 years and definitely have connections to former cup mechanics, shops etc.) they could help give some good history lessons and show off some of the old race shops in town; the old Crane Cams factory was there too. Who knows maybe you could get Mike Skinner to do an interview with you down there too (if he's still living down there).

Love watching your video and going back in time hearing story from all the guys I grew up watching. Kerry seem like such a humble guy and would love to hear about his racing career

Love these History vids. To change stuff up a lil from NASCAR (which I love too) try expanding into NHRA & IndyCar since those 2 seem to be losing viewership more than NASCAR when I turn on the races or go to em. Big Daddy Don Garlits & maybe AJ Foyt would be amazing to hear from
