This should be mandatory viewing for 8th grade in public schools as a lesson of the sacrifice that was made by a prior generation that we now reap the benefits.

We used to watch this series on the old Black & White TV set in the mid-1950's. As boys, we did not comprehend the gravity of war yet. And, as young boys, we loved to watch things blow up. My parents and grandparents knew the repercussions of war and tried their best to provide us with the childhood they never had. As an American, I do not yet know what it's like to survive in a POW camp, how to deal with famine and disease such as typhus and malaria. For this I am grateful.

Funny, I used to love this show as a kid too, for the same reasons. Explosions! Excitement! Now when I watch war movies as an old man, I just feel sad.

Our Dad was in the Navy and served in WWII and Korea. We too watched this series in the mid fifties and it all seemed so glorious. Of course we had no idea what our Dad had seen, the friends that he lost and the sacrifices he made during the time that he served.
I'm so glad to have found this series again. I'll have to tell my brother.

In retrospect we had a president who then focused on covering his rear for the greatest display of military unpreparedness in world history. I do not blame the Japanese. As USMC veteran, a software engineer at NASA and in the aerospace community - I strongly resent that much like 9-11-1001, we were caught with our shorts dropped and dribbling on ourselves. Think back to 9-11, and the 18-19 clowns who took out the towers and the planes...didn't even own a pair of shoes before the attack.
