  • In this video, I hike with a friend to Andrews Bald off of Clingmans Dome on Sunday. Although we didn't end up with any views at the bald, it was still an absolutely beautiful trail worth hiking in the Smokies. It's a short distance of 3.6 miles total round trip. I also made a second attempt to find the hiker tunnel with no luck because unfortunately it started pouring rain on us right after we hit the trail. Always a good day to be hiking in the mountains!

    This is the same trail Trenny Gibson vanished from in 1976. She was never seen again!

    I enjoyed walking with you so much! Thank you for sharing. Your videos fill in when I cannot be there to hike them myself. Awesome footage!!

    Wow!! You have some amazing "still shot" pics on your vid. Please stop apologizing for the "lack" of views. I was totally content with what nature offered you that day and I thank you for sharing with us. Ah, the elusive hikers tunnel. I hope you find it one day
    and take us along. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and God Bless!!

    One of your best video's. Very relaxing mood in this one and with Jerry playing the piano in the background, you knocked out of the park. :o)

      Thank you so much!! That's what I was going for keeping it more mellow and feel like you're hiking the trail. :) You've given me a great idea - have Jerry walk behind playing a flute LOL!!!

      That sounds like a great idea as I noticed his name listed in the NFF, under exceptional players. I’m sure you have heard of the NFF. Nation Flute Foundation. I’m sure you know what an honor it is to be listed there!!!! I look forward to hearing his rendition of “On The Road Again” and other hiking standards.

    Now that was fun to watch, but even more fun for the two of you. I’ll be backpacking through the Smokies, sometime in March of next year. I’ll be thru hiking the Appalachian Trail, beginning in February. I will also v-logg my adventure. I Subscribed to your channel and will watch some more of you journeys.
    Thanks, Kamper

      Oh that’s so awesome! When do you plan to start in February? Good luck to you and maybe I’ll see you on the trail in the Smokies! 🙂

    Just did this trail a few days ago, we loved it. Sadly no real views on the bald, but that's ok we got some awesome views on top of the dome and from the parking lot.

    After looking at your picnic, and thinking of my usual PBJ or ham sandwich, I'm feeling inadequate. One thing I noticed was the pads. I see you both pack heavy, even for a short hike, which is awesome. Do you carry a shelter of some kind as well, in case a day hike turns into overnight? (You've probably gone over this, but I suffer from CRS- Can't Remember....Stuff!) Angela- right there with you on taking it slow. I don't know if you have pine martens there, but I shot (photographed-relax!) a pair in a tree not 4 feet from me. They knew I was there, but since I was moving very slowly and quietly, they didn't spook. I'll leave the speed records to someone else- I'd rather take my time.

      I don’t carry too heavy it’s probably under 10 lbs but I do carry all the essentials for a day hike. I don’t have a shelter but carry an emergency blanket in case. I like taking it slow on occasion but do like doing the higher mileage hikes too. ☺️ it’s easier to get better video on short hikes though lol!

      And your videos ARE awesome! By packing heavy, I mean more the contents than the weight. I'm sure you've shaken your head many times at people out there with nothing but a fanny pack and a half liter of water! As far as higher mileage, I see in your channel description that you want to do the Triple Crown. Thinking that qualifies as high mileage...

      Thank you so much! And yes, I do carry some of what I call "luxury items" on my hikes. Day hikes I carry more heavy food for sure! And yes, I'd rather see a hiker with "too much" than not enough. :) One day, one day I will do the Triple Crown. :D

    Do you prefer hiking boots or trail shoes for day hikes?

    • @HikingwithBraids
      @HikingwithBraids  5 років тому

      I used to wear hiking boots but I now wear trail runners. It’s more comfortable and lighter for me and I don’t have any foot pain or blisters with them. ☺️
