Hey Alan, just subscribed to your channel (cheers from France). I just acquired two Motion+ (but with different Amazon accounts at a difference of 5 minutes ordering difference), one came with 36.38, the other one in 37.38 (sadly…). I truely believe that firmwares are definitely not related to firmwares at all, but more from drivers side. All drivers have some slight sound differences (manufacturing process), theres only in extremely high end audiophile drivers that there is research to have both drivers sounding almost the same, but even in that they won’t be 100% exact same sounding anyway. The firmares (to me) are just fixing keeping custom EQs saved, but thats all (I can confirm that with both firmwares, no issues for that). Also, keep in mind that there may be difference between your black (old) and new (blue) speakers as the old received much more hours of burning, so the blue one may be the exact same sounding after some hours too (that could be interesting to do this test, but its proven to work especially in minimum size drivers, a bit less in earbuds). Generally speaking, the more hours, the bass will tame but become extended, fuller sound, and highs will become slightly more extended too. AIso, double (or triple) check that EQ are the EXACT SAME as the other speaker, because I have been mad to do that (many turn ON/OFF to check). I truely believe that your sound differences are just due to these. Let me know what do you think of this, Many thanks for your videos, cheers’
I used default mode to compare sound differences so this wont be related custom differences. The black one was my slave stereo speaker so has not had much use. Thanks for the review as always. To my ears the Motion+ always sounds a little screechy to me compared to the Motion Boom. On top of that the Motion+ is missing the low end in comparison. I definitely prefer the Motion Boom. Add two Booms in TWS and it's really mind blowing!

I prefer the old firmware. Thank GOD I saw this video about this. Not every update is better. Like with Windows, if I don't trust the update, I wait for the BIG update and not small experimental ones which can disable certain features you use daily. Thanks Alan!

The one time i emailed them to try and get a coloured motion plus they blanked. I just think fuck all these companies i will go my own way. Even synology are blanking me now for telling you guys they sent me a free nas. Can you believe it? Dumped by synology for being honest, puts a new light on all those synology reviews 🤔

So in a nutshell 36.38 - Mids Range Focused with moderate high frequency. 37.38 - More complete sound signature with deep bass and high frequency across high volume level.
I really prefer the older firmware / older EQ / older speaker combo ! I understand you want more bass after you used the Motion Boom. But personally if I want more bass I listen to my Motion Boom, I don't need my Motion+ to sound similar. If I want absolute details and upper bass I listen to the plus and if I want the deep bass weight I listen to the Boom ! One speaker for each mood 😁
I actually got confused when I was listening to the new/old custom EQ recordings. The new EQ was so much more easier on my ears that It sounded more clearer. It doesn't seem like you're missing out on the sparkle too much. Might have to do with how the Motion+ project a wider sound.
@@alanrossreviews That's a good point. I'm probably hearing more of the highs than I should be. I was listening through Betron HD1000 headphones. Its sounds the equivalent to listening through a Maxsound Plus. So not flat enough but at the moment its the flattest I have.
We've been saying this for months! I think Soundcore could absolutely kill it with a much larger version of the Motion Boom. 20000mah battery, 100W, much larger drivers and two tweeters. Price it under $180 and it's over for JBL and every other name brand company!
@@Kment011 What you describe is a completely different size class. I personaly would be more than happy if they just added tweeters to the motion boom. Not make it 2 times bigger. This is like saying "i like a Toyota yaris. Would be killer if it was much larger and had a stronger engine"

I just did an update on the motion+ i bought about a year ago and havent used much because i was disappointed in it. It sounds like a completely different speaker now. Contrary - i also did an update to my “upgraded” Anker boost and its no longer nearly as impressive as i remember it.
So they made it more V Shaped... pleases the general crowd. Its always better to have deeper bass though. Ok now Im goin to watch the whole review. Lol!
Hello! can you help me with a problem that I have with my Motion +, download the souncore app and update the device through the app to version 45.49 and after that I cannot detect the bluetooth of the device, I have tried multiple combinations of buttons, reset through the bluetooth button and volume + and nothing, I can only listen to music through the auxiliary cable, is there any solution? Watching this video on a Doss soundbox touch (12W) except it's a store brand rebadge that only does 6W, and even through all these hoops the Motion Boom makes me jiggle my butt whereas the Plus is, hm, a good choice for listening to music.

im not sure on this. i would need to test if the slave was picking up the master settings or not. i havent tested 37.38 for this. you probably have to try and see. on some firmwares slave picks up master settings and other firmwares they each use embedded settings and older firmwares didnt use the custom at all 🤣 i just no longer have the time to try all this out, sorry.
Thanks for this, bad news lol I have been holding off getting another motion+ and it looks like I held off for too long because from what I can hear, I don't like the sound signature in the "improved" version. I say "improved" because I don't think so, I still like the sound of the old (black) motion+ and think its a better sound from what I can hear. If i recall correctly oluv got an old firmware 34.38 from the first generation of m+ he said the difference new from old is the old never saves your own eq settings did you check that mate?
Hey Alan, i got the motion+ and tried your settings. I mostly want to use it to listen to audiobooks, i have noticed that books with 37.38 firmware have more bass and they don't sound natural like an audiobook should sound, is there anything i can tweak to make it naturally sounding? Appreciate your advise as i dont see anything beside music mentioned in your videos, there are lots of people who hear audiobooks and can benefit from your advice!

Not tried pairing them, will look at sn later, havent got speaker to hand right now. Assume at this point the firmware tells you which version you have. But i cant be sure if the differences are just speaker variation, due to firmware or newer models sound different. I will wait for your review to see if the differences are consistent 😁😁👍

Alan have you ever reviewed the UE Megaboom or compared it to another speaker? Quick search of your channel and I can't find anything. Just curious since it seems to be such a popular "name brand speaker" (that's probably overpriced ;) )
well i dont expect much from what i know, however i would like to get to the ue range at some point but i am limited for time and just go with what i find interesting at this time.
They're extremely durable but I would choose 1 of my motion+s custom EQ over my 2 megabooms in stereo with my custom EQ (only 3 band EQ so not much adjustment). They're just not similar sound wise. Only benefit is durability and 360 audio. Doesn't even have USB C in 2021

Thank you for making these videos. I've bought motion plus and xb43. Motion plus is louder and better for portable use, but Sony has much better sounds quality, especially in Live Mode, i enjoy it at home a lot. Finally Sony replaced my favorite little Xiaomi Bluetooth speaker.

I have booth speakers, I like the Boom more for 50%+ volume, but for low level listening up to 50% the motion plus sound better in my ears.

Yeah to me the biggest decision maker was battery life. The motion plus sounds great but you get a lot more battery life with the boom.

yup overall best stick with 36.38, if nothing else you lose a little volume with 37.38

@@sgtearache5303 usually this sort of update will fix a hitherto unknown software bug that makes the device explode in extremely specific circumstances.
either that or they have a very geeky engineer who keeps pushing out minuscule adjustments to the ideal EQ settings and trying various party wigs.
I just did an update on the motion+ i bought about a year ago and havent used much because i was disappointed in it. It sounds like a completely different speaker now. Contrary - i also did an update to my “upgraded” Anker boost and its no longer nearly as impressive as i remember it.

Watching this video on a Doss soundbox touch (12W) except it's a store brand rebadge that only does 6W, and even through all these hoops the Motion Boom makes me jiggle my butt whereas the Plus is, hm, a good choice for listening to music.

im not sure on this. i would need to test if the slave was picking up the master settings or not. i havent tested 37.38 for this. you probably have to try and see. on some firmwares slave picks up master settings and other firmwares they each use embedded settings and older firmwares didnt use the custom at all 🤣 i just no longer have the time to try all this out, sorry.

I say "improved" because I don't think so, I still like the sound of the old (black) motion+ and think its a better sound from what I can hear. Please note the latest firmware for SoundCore Motion+ speaker should be the 36.38. The firmware 37.38 is not a new firmware but another name of old firmware version 34.38.
Some customers want to roll back the firmware from 36.38 to 34.38. Our engineer will help the customer exchange the name of 34.38 to 37.38 after helping them rolled back in case they will get the updating notefication in SoundCore App all the time with 34.38.

If i recall correctly oluv got an old firmware 34.38 from the first generation of m+ he said the difference new from old is the old never saves your own eq settings did you check that mate?
Hey Alan, i got the motion+ and tried your settings. I mostly want to use it to listen to audiobooks, i have noticed that books with 37.38 firmware have more bass and they don't sound natural like an audiobook should sound, is there anything i can tweak to make it naturally sounding? Appreciate your advise as i dont see anything beside music mentioned in your videos, there are lots of people who hear audiobooks and can benefit from your advice!

Not tried pairing them, will look at sn later, havent got speaker to hand right now. Assume at this point the firmware tells you which version you have. But i cant be sure if the differences are just speaker variation, due to firmware or newer models sound different. I will wait for your review to see if the differences are consistent 😁😁👍

Is it possible to have your exact values from the new eq? My motion+ blue emits a parasitic breath as soon as it is switched on, it can be heard when there is no music. Is this normal or is my model defective?

They're extremely durable but I would choose 1 of my motion+s custom EQ over my 2 megabooms in stereo with my custom EQ (only 3 band EQ so not much adjustment). They're just not similar sound wise. Only benefit is durability and 360 audio. Doesn't even have USB C in 2021

Firmware 39.39 is rolled on my motion plus, it's skipping the 37.38 version. Mine is the old version that stuck on 36.38.

Does your speakers have static noise? Mine is unusable in quite enviroment when I try to listen audiobooks during night.
only the usual very low bluetooth noise that should not be heard over actual music and only with no music and your ear up close.

Thank you for making these videos. I've bought motion plus and xb43. Motion plus is louder and better for portable use, but Sony has much better sounds quality, especially in Live Mode, i enjoy it at home a lot. Finally Sony replaced my favorite little Xiaomi Bluetooth speaker.
