Sevendust is another one
Yes awesome suggestion 😁
Hell Yeah, Lajon Motherfuckin' Witherspoon. Dude rocks!
As far as the black artists in the rock industry, I can come up with the following:
1. Jimmy Hendrix (late 60s, slamming guitarist),
2. War (70s, great band, lots of hits, they had their own style),
3. Living Color (80s, "Cult of Personality" was a big hit),
4. Prince (80s, don't have to explain him to anybody),
5. Hootie and the Blowfish (90s, lead vocalist was black, and what a voice!)
6. Rage Against the Machine (90s, lead guitar was Tom Morello and I believe he co-wrote most of their songs).
I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that leap to mind. (Oh, and Chambers Brothers with the hit "Time Has Come Today" back in '67.). (Oh, again. Lenny Kravitz, 90s).
Dude, if you want to hear some elite black lead singers, check out sevendust song name is enemy. Or check out Killswitch engage end of heartache
I didn't even think specifically about the incredible black artists in rock. Definitely check out Pop Evil, Sevendust, and Black Death. Lining Colour was a great one as well, as was Hootie and the Blowfish.
You definitely should listen to their other song 'Numb', also just as great as this
Hey Nat, actually there was another band made up of Black members formed in the 80's. Here's one of their popular hit songs, if interested. "Living Colour - Cult of Personality (Official Video)" (by the channel: Living Colour) --Living Colour is an American rock band from NYC formed in 1984. However, the lead guitarist is British. The group consisted of band mates: Corey Glover (lead vocals), Vernon Reid (lead guitar), Will Calhoun (drummer), Doug Wimbish (bassist) -(who re-placed Muzz Skillings in 1992). They had three songs that really became their biggest hits. This song that I've suggested "Cult of Personality" (which reached number #13 on the Billboard Hot 100), "Glamour Boys" (which reached number #31 on the Billboard Hot 100) and finally "Open Letter (To a landlord)" (which the song charted at #82) however, the "Open Letter" is a fan favorite and is thought of more as a deep cut. Great reaction, I enjoyed rocking with you. Thanks for sharing. peace out~
Hey man… also thank you for exposing me to these guys! Didn’t come in expecting a new music recommendation… let alone such a great one
No problem!
God Forbid was one of my first metal bands I listened to back in the mid 00's. Fire From The Gods I think inspired this band and they are really good.
You should listen to stupify by Disturbed
Also the anthem by good charlotte
Some other good black rockers…..Sevendust & Lenny Kravitz
Sevendust ,$Living color, Nonpoint are other bands with black singers.
There's quite a few rock/metal bands with black vocalists.
Sevendust, Fire from the Gods, Killswitch Engaged (with Howard Jones), Hed P.E. (Dad is half black), Dropout Kings, to name a few.
The 3 I'd say to check out for sure are Sevendust, Fire From the Gods, and Killswitch Engage during the time of Howard Jones.
Will do thank you!
If Skindred havent been recommended yet, i am disappoint
