Davids' generosity in patiently explaining gun mount is very much appreciated and more importantly, the correct advice unlike many pundits on the internet who are happy to explain
    matters but have'nt a clue.

Just found your channel and it’s really informative. Thank you for sharing some of the basic techniques of shooting. Most people, including myself, where never taught the correct way to mount a gun or follow targets. Keep up the good work!👍

Great video David I’ve learnt that not only was my gun mount wrong but my gun was shooting to high so after having a lesson with a professional my gun is now have the stock lowered and casted to the right keep these sort of videos coming because not every gun on the shelf fits everyone

I have always been a ‘low gun’ shooter… I have four years experience shooting sporting clays here in the USA. My coach has always been a proponent of adjusting my ‘draw length’ to the character of the flight of the clay! Great video to help the ‘gun up’ shooters develop a Proper Gun mount!

Another great instructional video! At Gulf Coast Clays, our club in the Everglades, Florida, my range instructor tells me he can tell by my mount when I will hit or miss the bird. I like the tip to look in the mirror, it is how I practice my sales pitch. Always works!

    Ok Ok hands up 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’ve been mounting the gun wrong for years 😁
I’ve just learnt the 50% of clays I’ve been hitting have just been fluke☹️
Oh well it’s all about the fun. But I’m looking forward to trying this mounting method 👍🏼

I'm here in America where the gun is pre-mounted prior to calling the bird is common place. But I've always refused to shoot that way and have always insisted on shooting low gun myself even though it's much harder not to miss. But from your instructions I'm thinking my habit of just standing up right when I rais the gun to shoot instead of leaning a little forward may be why it's difficult to maintain better consistency in eye elevation above the rib. Thanks! 👍

Awesome. I saw your dad with a similar video and have been using this approach for the past few months. I’ve also adjusted my comb so my eye is above the rib. I’ve gone from 6 to 16 clays broken regularly as a beginner. Thank you so much for the video !
Only trouble now is I get headaches after about 5-6 rounds of 5-stand. Something must be wrong with my mount as I assume I’m getting too much of the felt recoil. No shooting schools in Australia near me unfortunately...

I was talked into shooting on a trap league with church men. I started with my Mossy 500 that I had setup for sabot slugs including a Blackhawk Knox recoil absorbing stock. The rifles barrel has an Aimpoint red dot up top. So I put the modified choked ribbed barrel on it and took it to the range. Upon my first shot I was punched in the cheek over and over again, you can't just quit right? After watching this video I borrowed a beautiful model 12 from another church member with a vertically adjustable but plate. So comfortable now! and at 66 I grew up with guns and never had any formal training but am a very good shot still. But I needed to see presentation, now may my cheek heal, that was hurting so badly every week I would bash it. This will be my first shoot today and I don't care if I break clay, I will be so happy to not come home in pain.

When i first see clay both eyes open to get depth and distance at hold point shut down my left eye swing through or pull away lead on my kill point pull the trigger . There are some good products out there that help i am diabetic 1 min both eyes good 15 mins later cant hit a barn if locked inside have to shut my left eye down . Great channel this is.
Been shooting clays a couple of months and having issues with the buttstock badly bruising my shoulder area. I seem to catch my collar bone by accident and its black and blue for the next 2 weeks. You briefly mention where you sit the gun on the shoulder here but could you possibly cover this in more detail please. Im 6"3 with long armsa nd am borrowing guns until I get an sgc, I am finding most guns feel too short. I think because of this, I am holding them more towards the centre of my body and hunching my shoulder to fill the gap.

I watch all the TSC video's and David is always going on about the importance of gun fit and trying a few guns with a professional before you buy, well I didn't listen and bought one off the shelf from my local dealer and guess what? it doesn't fit me and I now need a to buy a gel riser pad, I was saving for my first brand new gun and fell for temptation and let impatience get the better of me, 1st lesson learned, my question now is it worth having some adjustments done to the gun and does it work?.

May I get your opinion on eye dominance, please? There seem to be different opinions on the subject. Personally, I don't think it matters because I'm not looking at my barrel anyway, so I'm using my binocular vision to triangulate the target as a hawk would. It's the same for archery for me because I shoot "instinctively" and I'm not referencing the arrow or sights. If my shooting frame is correct and solid I will hit what I'm looking at. I do a lot of wing shooting with my bow as well, but it was born out of my early shotgunning days when I was taught that fit, mount, and movement were the most important aspects of shooting. Thank you for your time. Jeff

Good advice , thanks . Just changed disciplines from target shooting to clays , although I have shot clays in the past . My question is this - I have joined a local club , the owner is a RFD and mainly sells Brixia Shotguns . They feel , fit and function well enough and have that Italian stylish slim look . Do I buy one . They are only around £900 to £1200 depending on model . I have two used Miroku guns a game and a trap gun . I want a new gun and want to be loyal to the clubs owner but not sure of Brixia Shotguns . Any advice would be appreciated . I watch your channel regularly and value your opinion . Ps really enjoying shooting clays , it puts a smile on my face wether or not I score high or low .

Only advice as a reasonable rifle and clay shooter is dont aim and dont stop the gun . Pick your kill point reverse to your hold point just below the clays line use the method the instructor says so i not stepping on toes . Just get to your lead at kill point pull trigger and keep gun moving a little after you have taken the shot . Have a great lesson and hope you enjoy. A E S
