Over the course of JJK, we form a connection with these character, we feel empathy for them and wish them the best. Yuji called Nanami "Nanamin". In Japan they always end names with kun, san, senpai, to either address people either casually or professionally. When names end with an N or with chan, the intent is to make it sound cuter. This shows the amount of appreciation Yuji has for Nanami. I've seen various reactions to Nanami's death, women cried, men got surprised both ending with cheering on Yuji as the fight starts. In this case, we the audience are Yuji, we are angry we are sad we want to cause harm to the thing that caused us harm. When Nobara died we get to see her story which I don't know why every was throwing shit at it. Nobara was the average person in a rural town. Something I love of Demon Slayer and JJK is how more grounded in reality is and shows how short can life be, how easily it is taken away. We are shown a goofy moment, those moments where these characters are happy then snapped back to reality. Yuji was about to break however Mahito leaves no time for Yuji to cope. Gege made Mahito to be hated and Gege and the MAPPA animators did an amazing job at it. Whenever they can, they highlight how grotesque looking Mahito is, showing detailed teeth, the wrinkles that appear with his huge grin. Now Yuji and Mahito. They are the sides of the same coin about their philosophy of humanity. They resemble the blue oni and red oni, the dragon and the tiger. Look at their designs. Yuji has short pink hair, Mahito has long clear blue hair. Mahito's search for purpose is equal to the carp swimming up the waterfall and he finally reached the gate he turned into this transformation, a dragon. During that fight, they went for the Armstrong meme. Taking all memes aside, Metal Gear Rising is a journey of self reflection and ideals just like this fight. Put "It Has To Be This Way" and immediately fits in hype and lyrics theme. Yuji finally accepts that Mahito is part of him and yet remains strong. Mahito's objective was broken there, he could no longer break Yuji so he did one more thing that goes against human nature. We humans are known for two things, our morality and reasoning. Mahito is already humanity without morals and now he's humanity without reasoning for he runs away like a scarred animal would do. Clinging on every desperate attempt to get away from Yuji. We the audience are more than satisfied with this result, Yuji remains true to his ideals while Mahito becomes an animal.

Yuji walking down Mahito was such a satisfying watch. This batshit madman that's been treating this whole thing as one big game finally got a hit with a heavy dose of reality and not only could he not deal with it, it straight up made the guy have a "Coming to Jesus" moment. If it had been anyone else, they'd be talking about how they were gonna turn over a new leaf, be a contribution to the community and do better, but nah, even if Mahito said that stuff, I'd still dome the dude about twelve good times and that's just being generous
