    You'll be saved if you or your bat is inside that line. And if not, the keeper will try to Get you Out by hitting the Stumps. That's what he was doing all through the video and that's a wicket keeper's task.

  • @mrgyani

    This was a great video, thanks for reacting to this. To answer your queries :
    1. If the batsman nicks the ball and wicketkeeper catches it, he is out. Sometimes a wicketkeeper does both catch & stump just to be sure he is out even if the ball hasn't touched his bat
    2. Batsman must be inside the white line or else the wicketkeeper can stump him out. Either his foot or the bat must be inside.
    6:00 here his foot was in the air when he got stumped out. The on-field umpire had requested the review, and hence the slow-mo making sure his foot was not touching the ground..
    3. It's out as long as the ball is in your hands when you touch the wickets.

    The moment u said you were confused, the batsman's foot was in the air when dhoni stumped him. You are out if any part of your body or bat is not behind the line when the bails are disturbed. So if you cross the line and someone threw the ball at the stumps and out of fear that the ball might hit you, you jump and are in the air and ball hits the stumps while you are in the air and no part of your foot or bat is grounded even if you crossed the line, you are out.

    3 methods of getting the batter out in this video:- a "Stumping" is when the batter makes a play at the ball, misses and his trailing foot is beyond what is called the 'popping/batting crease' and keeper catches the ball, he then hits the stumps and the batter is out but the keeper MUST be holding the ball they do so; A "Catch" would be the most easiest method to understand, the keeper catches the ball when hit off the bat, even by the slightest of touch, and off the batter's gloves; a "Runout" is when a batter leaves the confines of the batting crease, at either end of the pitch after the ball is hit, and the ball hits the stumps thrown by any fielder before they can get their bat back over the crease with their bat. In regards to why the keeper sometimes is close far behind the wickets depends on who the bowler is at the time. If the bowler is a "Pace Bowler", having a long runup, they use pace/speed to do some of the work with ball speeds anywhere up to 140kph similar to a baseball fastball and the keeper is some distance away from the wickets for safety and reaction to what the batter does and only can catch the ball or if they are lucky may affect or contribute to a runout, but if the keeper chooses to be close to the stumps, he wears a helmet and only then could they effect a stumping. If the bowler a "Spin Bowler", a more technical style of bowling where the bowling speed is not so fast, then the keeper is right behind the stumps and can be in position for any stumpings.

    Basically stumping (form of runout) is when batsman plays shot his movements most of the time will take him outside the batting crease (which is white line) and keeper can have chance make batsman out before he back to the crease...
    Runout is when batsman hit a shot and run between the wickets just like baseball has to touch the stumps before he reaches white line..

    2:58 the reason he touches the wickets is because sometimes no one is sure if the ball touched the bat or not. So in case its not a catch out after the review he wants to make sure he does a run out here too(in a wicket keepers case its called a stump out or just stumps). When the pitcher is a fast bowler the wicket keeper will stand far, when the pitcher is a spinner he will stand close to the batter to stump him in case the ball spins and the batter misses hoping hes out of his base boundry

  • @davidarmstrong3564
    @davidarmstrong3564 Рік тому

    Cricket is the national sport in Australia. The keeper stands up to the wicket for a slow bowler. The slow (spin) bowler is able to manipulate the bounce of the ball and this can confuse the batter. In order to negate the effect of the spin, the batter will move down the pitch in order to half volley the ball. He/she is only safe behind the line (the crease), so if they miss the ball the keeper who is right next to the stumps removes the bails before they can recover their ground with either their foot or their bat. When the quicks are bowling, it would be suicide to stand up at the wickets. That is why the keeper stands back about 10 - 15 metres.

    if the batsman plays and touches the ball with either bat or glove, he can be caught "out" by a fielder or wicket keeper before ball touches ground (caught "out", stumping of wickets is not required). If batsman plays and misses the ball, the keeper can stump "out" the batsmans' wicket with the ball (in hand or not). If the batsman or their bat is not "grounded" past the wicket line at that moment, they are stumped "out". *Only batsman and wicket keeper can wear gloves.

    Also this video is dedicated to Ms dhoni, former captain of Indian cricket team. He is the only international captain who has won all icc tournaments. Icc being international cricket council. All the stumping you are watching are unique to him coz he has won us matches with awesome and unheard ways of wicket keeping alone. He was a very dangerous batsman too. Normally batsman and bowlers are the one who win you matches but he has turned many matches with his wicket keeping skills. There are two types of bowlers. Fast bowlers and spin bowlers. When a fast blower is bowling, you can't stand close to wickets coz you will miss a lot of balls and in cricket, one can score 360 degree. If the wicket keeper keeps missing the ball, it can go to boundary behind him. But when spin bowlers are bowling, they bowl slow. Coz they sacrifice pace for ball to spin more or turn more. Basically physics. That's when wicket keepers can stand close to the stumps coz the ball is slow and they can catch them. Plus on rare occasions when they miss the ball, it doesn't go far coz speed is slow. And batsman must stand behind the line when the ball is put into play coz if he is outside the line, wicket keepers can stump them and they get out. Dhoni also would instruct his spin bowlers where to bowl according to batsmans behavior so as to trick the batsman and get him out.

    keepers stay far back when it is the fast bowlers turn to catch the ball that will be deflected off the bat, which for fast balls will be a huge deflection, so they have to stand back. for slow ballers or spinners (curve ball bowlers) the keeper will stand very close to the wickets to quickly stump the batter, because in spin bawling the batter wants to get out of the crease and hit the ball before it takes those insane spin angles.

  • @pruthvimeka3259

    keeper hitting the wickets with their hands while they have the ball in their hands is called stumping. that gets the batter out if both the batters legs are outside the crease.

    batter has to stay in the crease to stay safe from run outs. you have to stay on base or the fielder can tag you out in baseball right, its is something similar.

  • @vital9644
    @vital9644 2 роки тому

    I like how you try to understand whats happening there....actually kipper collect ball behind the wicket ..and if batsman miss shot and his leg out of that line then kipper need to hit on that wickets before batsman cross line ...same when batsman take runs.....and when spinner throw balls, speed of ball is between 90-120km/h so kipper stand closer to wicket but when fast bowler ball speed became 130-150km/h or above so kipper stand on such a distance where he can collect that ball....and msd is leader of team so he decide fielder position and bowlers and other major strategy.

  • @direwolf7491
    @direwolf7491 2 роки тому +1

    You should check the rules about 'stumped out' and 'run out' in cricket.
    You are confusing it with baseball. Baseball if you miss a legal ball you can get out. In cricket you can miss every ball you want to, as long as it doesn't hit the wickets or knicks your bat and is caught by a fielder.
    Dhoni is getting them stumped out here because they are coming outside the 'crease' to hit the ball just by a little and he is getting them.
    Also for fast bowlers the ball bounces a lot so wicket keepers stand far behind, for spin bowling they are close to the wicket.

    The batsman needs to have a part of his body or bat grounded behind the crease (white line) in order to be "safe". Should be leave the crease and a fielding player dislodges the bales from the stumps (stumps = 3 upright poles. bales = 2 pegs on top of the stumps), he is out.
    Where the wicket keeper stands behind the stumps is determined by the bowler. For quicker bowlers he will stand further back to give himself more time to react.

    Cricketers often throw the ball in the air after a catch because there's no double play in cricket, so there's no reason hold onto it. Tossing it in the air is a common celebration. Sometimes when a keeper takes a catch off a very fine edge he might stump the batsman as well (if he's out of his crease) just to be sure. But these days the umpires' replays show even the finest of nicks off the bat.
