I am so glad that you are proud to be born raised and bred and West Virginia everyone should be that way about their Homeland just as I am about Kentucky the great Commonwealth of Kentucky and my opinion in my humble opinion you cannot find a greater place live raise your children and retire and as Kentucky I am very partial to Southeastern Kentucky that's where I'm at right now this is where I was born and raised I have been and lived in other parts of Kentucky it's my home but they're nothing like being in the hills of Southeastern Kentucky thank you God for planting me in southeast Kentucky

The reasons the town is "crowded in" is that it's a mountain town with not much usable flat land, and it was built at a time when most people didn't have cars. When you mostly walk to get where you're going, you mostly build things close together.

My mind is blown by how much most of these West Virginia towns that you show us resemble most of the West Coast and northern half of the South Island of New Zealand. Man here gave me big Picton and Greymouth vibes. The Tasman sea crashing into the towns (with a fair bit of violence tbh) is the only huge notable difference at first glance.

Hi, I’m from northern Vermont. My uncles and I canoe The south branch of the Potomac River almost every spring. It is a 12 hour drive. WV is one of the most beautiful states. The people are real, honest, cool people. Lots of small mountain towns. Rural. We have in over 20 years, explored lots of the state. I’m from the country, so maybe I’m bias, I would rather break down in the middle of bum hole WV, then NY, LA,Chicago…. I almost bet someone would stop and give me help. Not I’m a city. As far as I know, without the assistance of an ancestry searching service, my ancestry has been here for generations on both sides. I don't know any relatives of either my father or mother that came from anywhere but West Virginia. My grandfather was well known in these parts for his fiddle playing back in the day.
Growing up in this small little place was something that as a younger person I thought a trouble and was mesmerized by the thought of big cities and fast internet, but after I had kids and even the small town scared me for them, I am so thankful to be in WV and not to have been accustomed to big city living. I’ve been there. I was driving through the state on back roads, and went there purposely because of the name! It’s like everywhere else in WV, a lot of struggles, people have left, but good people stay on. Scenery is beautiful. I stopped and mailed my rent check to NY. In Mingo County, I got pulled over by the police for “looking like I was lost.” Every year I go this happens in rural areas in the south. It’s because NY tags make me suspect. They think I’m there for drugs, firearms, or sometimes fireworks. I’ve never once been ticketed or charged with anything.

West Virginian’s are awesome! Start of Civil War. W.V was unhappy being tax and neglected by Virginia. President Lincoln told them you go with the Union I will make you your own state. W.V. With no money no side said OK! Virginia matched 10,000 troops in new confederate uniforms to make West Virginia submit. W.V. Gov. Sent out a call for volunteer’s to fight. No money no food no arms no uniforms. 2800 mountain men all tough as nails in educated showed up. With their Cherokee friends. They were all sharp shooters. They butchered the Confederate army from Virginia. Killed 2000 of 10,000 first battle. They broke and ran with the West Virginia Mountain Men chasing them. They killed 1000 more and Virginia never came into W.V. Again. West Virginia became a state because of the freedom loving undesirable mountain men. Now today we must fight the Democrats taking away our freedoms.🤗🇺🇸

Man, West Virginia, for those who may not know, is a town in far southern West Virginia near the border of Virginia. It is scenic country. The notion that all West Virginians are "hillbillies" is false, one of those myths they feed the tourists. Of course, some rural Appalachian counties are poor in comparison with the rest of the urbanized nation, and the rugged mountains and remote locations make it a hard place to earn a living. The promising young people tend to move out of the mountains to find opportunities for their talents, but the love of the mountains always remains with them.
If you grow up in the mountains anywhere, you learn to be tough, resilient, adaptable, and hard-working early in life, and that's true of West Virginians. I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, worked for a few years in Huntington, Morgantown, and Beckley, and drove up and down Rt. 219 from Lewisburg through Grafton and Davis to the Maryland line. I know the state fairly well. I dated several West Virginia girls back in the day and can attest they were all lovely, genuine and intelligent. I am very fond of the State and its people. If you want to see "the real America," this is the place to go.

WV is a coal mining state. Most people here relied on those jobs in the mines in order to feed their families. Now, guess how poor they were. WV poor people built the wealth of many by the sweat and blood of many by just trying to survive. Now guess who made fun of them. Rich, ignorant, snobby people who carried tall tales to their rich friends, who in turn spread them wherever they went. This worked for them in 2 ways, 1- it helped inflate their self-importance and 2- it kept others out of their way. Because who would want to be around dirty, uneducated poor people when rhey had the choice of bigger cities and so-forth?! As a life-long hillbilly whose ancestors were coal miners and farmers, road builders and war veterans, I can tell u that we are proud of who we are! No matter what they say about us!!

We have our share of problems and idiots, just like anywhere else certainly has. But we're small towns and neighborhoods. We're spread out, plenty of mountains, peacefully quiet mostly, and easy privacy when you want it. Friends and neighbors when you want or have a need. We take care of our own when needed. Welcoming to friendly visitors. Belligerent outsiders stand out and end up finding reasons to not stay for long. State motto: Montani Semper Liberi (Mountaineers Always Free)...

At that time we went to Man several times to transport some of the mobile homes out of Man… The State of WV Department of Natural Resources bought the ones we moved to different locations around the Central and Northern part of the state for WVDNR Field Offices… There was still a lot of evidence of the flood disaster back at that time and I have never been back since it was rebuilt...
There was a lady who had written a song about that flood that we met at a restaurant one time while we were there… I think her name was Jean Crowdy and I don’t know how I remember that but I hope someone corrects me if I’m wrong.

If it becomes popular you'll get a bunch of new people moving in and then you'll see your home values rise (sounds good right?) and then you'll see crime rates rise and then you'll have the new people tell you how you've been living wrong all your life and that even though they left their old area because it became a craphole, they know how to make your place better..... much better. Oh yeah, it will take higher taxes though and you'll have to change some names of buildings, schools, etc. because it is offensive to the new people that are moving to your town. Then you'll be told that you're going to have to make some changes because the way you have been doing things your entire life isn't the way that the new folks like it. Hey, they're the ones that made your house worth more and made your taxes go up and your crime rate go up, etc., etc., but they've got the money and they're gonna make things better. They just need to start over with their old ideas and this time they will make it work.
