    The main idea is to not hit (punch/pull) until the lead, not the rod is 180 degrees away from the direction of the cast. This will normally be when the rod is past the 6 oclock position, 12 oclock being cast direction. Normally you should wait until the rod is near 4 oclock position. What I forgot to mention however is if you can get the lead more than 90 degrees off the tip the lead will be in the right position sooner and you will get a more efficient hit. Practicing the heavy leads 175g, 200g casting off the ground will help with this. Good luck!

    Been getting into surf fishing and I just can't get it out much past 20 or 30 yards with around 5oz combined weights and baits. I'm using a shorter 8ft rod but I know the majority is my lack of technique not my equipment. Thanks for the instruction! I'll try it out soon!

    Brilliant, you've just answered my problem, I'm pussin out with the weight of the rod mid swing and hitting to early, lumping the rod around and tending to bend it into the cast instead, as you've kindly pointed out not punching last minute...i need to have more confidence in the rods speed and power ,punch not push, thank you kindly, helped loads.

    Very nice cast, Smooth and controlled. I hope you don't mind me commenting though that your Rod tip is always 7 foot above the ground at minimum during the cast. I think you would get a lot more distance if you could somehow sweep it to 2-3 foot off the ground at the low point. I think the lead would be in acceleration for longer. Watching Jan zelesny throwing a javelin would indicate what I mean. He has a massive amount of acceleration time due to his long arm sweep. Big Danny does the same when casting Thanks for the video anyway. Very interesting

    Whenever I see a pro doing this cast, it makes me realise two things I've really been doing wrong.
    1) I was holding the rod handle with both hands instead of the right hand further up
    2) I was casting with the rod going in a direct line instead of bringing it round at an angle.

    • @djrmonix
      @djrmonix  5 років тому +1

      Depends on the type of rod but def beach/surf rods hands a good few feet apart!

    If you all are going to attempt this on a spinning reel (fixed reel) I highly suggest investing in a "casting trigger". You can find a good one on ebay for around $11. Your finger will thank you! I've cut my finger too many times to count before I found out about these things. It will help you get the maximum power from your spinning reel cast since it holds the line super tight for you when you cast. The one I bought was from a brand called hypertackle if anyone is interested.

    So hitting it that little bit too early, and it "going iver the top" might be the cause of a cast going high and to the right hand side? Basically be a bit more patient and wait for the real heavy feeling?

    • @djrmonix
      @djrmonix  3 роки тому

      Yes i would say prob yes. If you go to hit the rod at the end and it feels like nothing there and 2 secs later it cracksoff.

  • @gmonkey6523
    @gmonkey6523 5 років тому

    great video. that last crack off was strange cas the lead had gone. Did you birds nest or get it caught. It didnt seem like the power of the cast was the issue.

    • @djrmonix
      @djrmonix  5 років тому +1

      Ironically I chopped the cast. Lead went of early and sudden loss of tension on the leader made me swipe the rod after release pulling some line of the reel which wasnt being taken up by the weight. I have a different swing now check my newer vids I dont chop it now, more distance.

    Something I've not seen explained is after the cast, When do you thumb the reel?
    I look for the splash...but notice alot looking at the reel only?

    • @djrmonix
      @djrmonix  4 роки тому

      Doing these kind of distance casts you wont really see the lead splashing down. On the field we watch the reel as we domt want to thumb before lead hits the ground as will take away some distance. The moment the reel over rus ee thumb it as quick as possible. For fishing I just get used to how long its in the air for and tend to watch the weigt and bait or gentlythumb pressure just before i think its going to land

    What distance do you get . Does it years to master this technique

    • @djrmonix
      @djrmonix  6 років тому +1

      On average if casting well, weight only around 260-270 yards but have done more. Prob from absolute beginner to acheiving 200yards probably around 6 months to a year typically, then it gets difficult
