What is Better to Buy? Silver Rounds or Silver Bars
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 кві 2019
- In this video I talk about which is a better buy between silver rounds and silver bars. There are so many factors that go into this discussion that I just try to bring up the main ones. People have been pondering the silver rounds vs silver bars idea for a long time and I think I cracked the code. I tell my personal opinion on which I think is better to stack between generic silver rounds and silver bars. I always say stack what you like and I encourage you to stack silver if you are buying silver rounds OR silver bars. I hope that because of this video I can bring up some good points and help you decide if you would rather buy silver rounds or silver bars!

Let me know are you team rounds or team bars?!? Thanks for watching everyone! 🔥🐉
Bars for sure.
Silver Dragons team both , diversification
I prefer dragon teeth. ^.^
Silver Dragons I’m team bars but team bullion gov coins too
Team generic bars...
Do you stack rounds or bars?
Me: Yes
I sold a load of silver in 2011 and 2012. I sold every kind of silver. My generic rounds actually sold the quickest. The ten ounce bars were great seller. I had a 100 Engelhard nobody wanted it, but eventually a guy bought it...I remember getting $3800 for that sucker! The ASE sold, but more people wanted the one ounce rounds, and 10 ounce bars. As for the 90%, not everyone wants 90%. Some people ONLY want 999 fine, that being said, all my 90% did sell, but not nearly as fast as the generic rounds, and 10 ounce bars. This is my experience.
I remember selling in those days too, only in the last year have I been rebuying and stacking hard!
Honestly I had no issues selling anything, if it could be tested, then it would sell no problem
Bob Silver well diversity is always a good idea IMO then you can chose what to sell 👍🏽🔥🐉
Bob Silver , did u make profit am thinking of starting too invest in bars
@@luckym9877 I bought a bunch of silver in 2010 for around $18 per ounce, and sold it at prices between $29.50 and $43. When silver came back down to $14, I bought more.
Another factor: which makes you feel more like a pirate? Haha
Arg!
I prefer to think of myself as a viking but I guess they were pirates too 😁
aye matey
what is a pirates favorite letter?
@@Paul-dw2cl r
That's a no brainer, the one with the lowest premium.
Robert Waterman yep that’s a great way to do it! 🔥🐉
Bars over rounds for me, especially the vintage ones.
David McClain yeah vintage is awesome 👍🏽🔥🐉
Why vintage?
Nick Uplands looks cool and has history
Im just getting started, but i started off with bars, but when i realized it's all really about the weight, i moved to 2 oz rounds that are extremely cool to me with the design work. Great video
Rounds, Bars, whatever I can get on the cheap...
Stack what you like, Stack what you want, Stack what you can afford...just keep Stacking!
Cheers!
PDX Brewer for sure my friend I couldn’t agree more!! 🔥🐉
I agree. I don’t stack yet but I plan to switch it up each check.
@@youbastrds231 Not each check save that money up or sell things that have been sitting around for years you no longer use and be prepared to buy in bulk, buy low as possible. Hedge against the fluctuation of the market and offset your cost.
If you can accumulate $1,000 bucks it is a good start to obtaining free or low-cost silver after the initial investment.
I'm currently looking into stacking. I havnt bought anything yet.
I'm just curious about how you find deals and what does a deal look like?
When your looking at a deal does its potential for an easy resale factor at all?
@@Fivestar5000 Look into what silver or gold falls under the exempt category and lean in that direction. Just buying rounds or bars without knowing if they are exempt or not is never a good idea.
I really dislike how you are comparing 1 ounce rounds to 10 ounce bars. Why not compare 1 ounce coin to 1 ounce bar.
There is a cost difference per ounce between 1oz and 10 oz you pay a higher premium for the one oz. Say 30 dollars per single oz round or bar versus 26.94 dollars per oz in the 10 Oz bar. Give or take do the math. At this very moment, a 10oz bar costs $269.40 a 1 Oz Silver Rounds CC / PayPal at $29.15.
(300 bucks or 270?)
So if you are going to drop 300 bucks buy the bar and one round. You get 11 ounces that is like buy the bar before 10 one-oz rounds and you get one round free or it cost you $27.27 per ounce. That is called hedging and offsetting the cost.
Do this 10 times and you have 10 free 1oz coins.
Oh, and never pay sales tax from a dealer, if they want to charge a tax go someplace else. It is bad enough you will need to report capital gain when you sell and that could be as high as 28 percent or more.
Could you make a video sometime about how you got into melting down and making your own bars. I really want to start that someday!
My question is does it matter if i touch the bars and rounds or should i get air tight packages? I figure only the silver eagles would maybe require the air tight containers.
When it comes to generic I prefer the rounds unless it's an interesting design or something on the bar. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Clayton County History Hound for sure I agree 👍🏽🔥🐉
Because one of the most important features of my stack is "diversity", I don't think that most of the categories actually matter. I would buy bars and rounds, though I would stick to 1oz. On that issue, I say to each his own, that's just about tiny differences in risk levels (i.e. 1oz vs 5 or 10oz fakes). The risk difference is so small that it just only warrants a mention. I don't like bars, but I try to keep my bullion 33% 1oz government minted, 33% generic 1oz rounds, 33% generic 1oz bars. And of course, 50% of my stack is 90% Constitutional, and the other 50% of my stack is bullion divided as I indicated. I have other stuff like sellable Silver (i.e. lower quality 90%), 40% Kennedy's, 35% War Nickels, jewelry, etc... but I don't count that stuff as part of my stack. Really, that stuff just insulates my stack from having to be used in an emergency right away. It gives me just enough of a buffer that maybe I'll be able to keep it long-term, maybe retire on it, or even just pass it or a portion of it on to my kids. Who knows? Great video!
1 oz silver coins (mainly ASEs and Maples) and 20 oz Bars (Scottsdale). Love em both
Do you make a profit in the long run 🏃?iam new to bars and coins which one is better and what is the premium? Thank u 🙏 awsome vidoe.
Totally wrong about storage. 50 ten ounce bars takes up way less space than 25 tubes of rounds.
Depends on if you leave the bar in its plastic or not.
@@whocares1877 no, it doesn't. Bars take up way less space even in the plastic.
Clinton Elliott I agree which is why I said the rounds do take up a slight but more space... once you max out your safe then complain all you want IMO 😂🔥🐉
Great video!!! With regard to silver in general, where is the best place to sell to for exactly spot? That is the whole idea of stacking, to retain and invest wealth. Once silver does go back into the 20, 30, 40 dollars an ounce, I would assume it would be VERY difficult finding someone willing to pay the exact spot price. Any thoughts??
Firefighter 88 I would look locally and honestly once silver goes up in price the demand will be up so I feel like you shouldn’t have a problem selling 🔥🐉
How much to you think the 20% VAT here in GB affects the demand for silver from would be stackers? Typical dealer premiums here are 50-60% of spot. VAT @20% is added to the combined total of the spot price + the dealer premium. This has put me off silver quite a bit and I am going to buy a 1/4 oz gold Britannia instead.
I would like to see a video showing use of bolt cutter when cutting bars. Nice video. Well done.
Michael Bajorek ok i’ll make one 😂🔥🐉
"Hack silver" for when SHTF :D
If I want one ounce pieces of silver in round disc shape, I'm going to go for eagles. If I want bulk silver cheap, I like 5 an 10 oz bars. Just my personal preference I guess.
E R I K i’m all about those ASE as well my friend 👍🏽🔥🐉
Should I only buy generic rounds if it has the manufacturer name on the rounds along with the .999silver listed and the term one ounce listed
Howard Small yes that is a good rule when you are starting out 👍🏽🔥🐉
I have a few class q 4-6-2 silver bars any thoughts.
Do you have a video showing what the slide looks like to detect if it’s real silver or fake?
I like both, but rounds first for me. When I'm ready to buy 10 oz at a time, I'll get bars too.
Yo Dragon, the coin the president sold or rounds what are they called?
These slides you spoke of for testing coins: can they also test coins bigger than 1oz?
Neither, I'm team ASE's. My LCS pays under spot for both generic bars and rounds. They pay above spot for ASE's, thus my liquidation strategy trumps my desires.
yup, ASE's are well worth the extra premium (govmt mintage, numismatic, liquidity)
Silver Surfer yeah that is my personal strategy as well 👍🏽🔥🐉
I think RCM silver bars are the only silver bars worth stacking.
Where do you buy your genetic silver online at ? I unfortunately don't have a coin shop close to my home. The closest one charges me about $2.50 over spot for generic or even junk silver. I need help on where to buy both bad. 🙏🙏🙏🥺🥺🥺🥺
I prefer rounds generally, but man I'm falling in love with the Perth dragon bar/coins
David Bryan yeah i’m all about the rounds 🔥🐉
Price savings aside (for 10 oz or larger bars), I believe most would prefer rounds for ease of storage (in tubes), and liquidity due to being able to purchase 1 oz at a time (if you’re buying from an LCS or individual).
I agree the bars a cool but rounds are more practical.
Victor Frankenstein indeed rounds are where it’s at 👍🏽🔥🐉
Wouldn't a more fair comparison be between a 1 ounce round vs a 1 ounce bar?
For cost i love the bars. To sell i would have both. Options are good for the buyers to choose
Ehren Krause yes gotta diversify! 🔥🐉
10 oz Sunshine bars!
Glockman155 those are super sweet for sure! 🔥🐉
Glockman155 , I love those tooo!
I am not a fan of generic rounds. But I have become a fan of an occasional 10 oz bar. Bought a beautiful 10 oz Britannia bar 😃
Silver Heist yeah those are pretty sweet I have to admit 🔥🐉
Silver Heist , those are a beauty 10oz bar .
Loved the video...i heard that you do melt which is fine...but would you think handling the silver with thin gloves made for coin handling might be a good idea...finger prints are steel and silver's and other metals worse enemies...just my two cents...great video ....
Joseph Contini yeah lots of people go with the gloves and if it’s a high premium piece then I agree but melters.... eh 🔥🐉
Great Video my friend! Keep it up
J Parker Silver Stacker thanks so much!! 🔥🐉
Both are good.... Its nice to have diversity in the stack....
I prefer a mix of bars and rounds, since I'm buying to retain value as a hedge against inflation and something to protect against SHTF.
Do you like to stack 1 kilo bars as well? They are more rare, I suppose, bc of them being harder to sell, right?
Aaro S I do not stack kilo bars personally 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
All depends how much you have to invest that month. I usually go with the bars.
I am not really into the generic stuff, but generally speaking I would be team bars -- although I do see the need for having fractional silver (which is always the argument supporting generic rounds.)
Rounds have higher premiums so they can go for more per ounce but you’ve helped me learn alit thanks
RCM bars only!
Gov minted four 9’s fine silver
And usually cheaper than 10 rounds. Can’t go wrong.
from Ontario for canadians that is a great way to stack for sure! 🔥🐉
I agree! Too bad not much here in Montreal. Where do you make most of your purchases for the RCM bars?
truth is within
They are great! All serialized as well. Prices have changed a lot in a year, all the bars I own now cost 100$ more than what I payed 1, 2, and 3 years ago. But I’ve bought them from global bullion suppliers, pmx, silver gold bull. I have also used Toronto gold bullion and the bullion people but I do not recommend those 2 companies they have next to no customer service and you could wait up to a year to receive your order. I’ve also picked them up at coin shows.
from Ontario man, it’s demotivating these days silver spot is about 26 Canadian and you see people paying 40-50$ Canadian PER OUNCE on eBay. Definitely need to find other better outlets. Huge thanks for the quick reply my Canadian friend! 🙏🏻
truth is within
Yeah it’s definitely getting pricey. Check out silverholics UA-cam channel if you haven’t already he’s a Montrealer. Cheers!
I'm a rounds guy, personally. Can't go wrong with either though! Good video SD!
Me too. But now im thinking that generic larger bars are better than small generic rounds. Issue is at my lcs its the exact same price for 10 oz bars and 10 1 oz rounds
@@theradiounderground7298 Strange. When buying back, my LCS pays more for 1 oz rounds than bigger bars. Probably due to ease of selling.
Investment Future Finances rounds all the way baby!!! 🔥🐉
I think the 10 oz bars cost around 320 from the Apmex or JD bullion. Each ounce of silver cost 32 dollars. How in the world do you expect to get a lower price?
I like both, hard to choose
NA.TV lol I agree 🔥🐉
I like both but lean towards bars. You can get fractional bars if you want to. However with the rounds you have to buy the tubes to store them in at an additional cost whereas most bars come in plastic at no additional cost, even the one ounce ones.
i really like that silver bull bar and wouldn't melt it personally. if they sold them minus the spot deal i would buy more of them over most other 10 oz bars because i like that design a lot. That said, i stack the rounds more but i buy both and usually depends on the price.
Jeff M yeah honestly to me it’s just bullion so I don’t mind melting em 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
I like both generic rounds and bars. I don’t collect any eagles or any constitutional actually. I keep mine incase of hyperinflation, and I feel if we’re in that situation no ones going to care what the collector value is when bartering or trading, only the silver content. And it’s uniform so I can easily figure out what the value of everything is.
Better is both. (Variety is the spice if life.) My fave rounds- are the Freedom Girl and the Pegasus. I just bought more of both- and they cost me more than twice as much as the originals. (I can't help but think- that if you showed over a dozen different coins to a coin dealer, it would be interesting to find out how much over spot, they would be prepared to pay for them?) The ten ounce Britannia bars are really neat-too.
Nice one bro. I’m thinking of making a similar video. Always a good debate brother
Metal Bum it is a great debate for sure! 🔥🐉
You should make a video on 1kg and 100 ounce bars. Where I live in Australia these tend to come with their own certificates and anti fraud detection in addition to having the smaller premium
Personally I like the variety of rounds but I stack mainly with weight in mind so bars it is. 10oz bars do have a wonderful feel in your hands though.
Why would you melt your silver?
A year ago it was 15 an oz, today it’s 29-32. That in a year it’s double. Also try finding it now all the silver bars are gone and only able to get coins, which is fine. Something is happening right now on this date. 01/31/21
I know I heard him say that he could buy 10 oz for under $200. I went the other day and bought 10 oz for almost $400
However they were silver eagles
I buy both but nowadays max is 5 ozt for me ... for testing ... once you have more than 1,000 ozt ... it is time to buy the Previous Metal Verifier ... I got 1,000+ ozt and bought the PMV ... just my opinion
Tajul Akbar Ismail yeah I can see me getting one in the future 👍🏽🔥🐉
When starting out get 200, 1 oz generic bars. Invest 15% in other PM' s. Follow this till your comfy.
Every week I change it up, 5gram gold bar, 10 1/4 gold rounds, 10 oz silver bar, 20 rounds of silver
Only at this for four months, but I'm
1/3 - coin (thanks Mom)
1/3 - 1 oz & 100 gr bars
1/3 - 1 oz rounds
2022, I am focused on Peace Dollars and 100 gram bars. 1oz rounds if it's a good deal.
I LOVE the 10 ounce silver bars, but I also like government minted silver coins like ASEs and Maple Leafs etc...not to fond of generic rounds tho..makes me cringe when you talk about cutting up and melting those beautiful bars man..lol..Awesome video bro!
Couldn't have said it better, exactly what I prefer myself.
Bruce Liggett
I like gov minted too. That’s why I buy 10 oz RCM bars best bang for ur buck.
Bruce Liggett lol the bars will be sacrificed but their memory will live on 🔥🐉
I like 1 oz bars and rounds. I don't have any thing over 2oz
Silver Smoke Stacks very smart of you 👍🏽🔥🐉
I’m team Bar! I live in Florida and I was at the beach one day when I was little and I found a silver bar, from a sunken ship (Idk which one sadly). But I loved Bars ever since then. I also buy coins, like Morgan’s when my dad and I got into collecting coins. But over I love bars I feel like I’m richer with ‘em. Atm my plan is buying both; 2 10oz bars and 5 1oz coins. Just so I use fractions when trying to sell.
I stoped buying round, and the only bar I buy is Scottsdale stacker. I mostly buy Government bullion.
calderon2091 yeah i’m all about the ASE myself 🔥🐉
What are the best bars to buy and are more best to sell in the long run \m/
8 stack more bars i only own 1 1oz round and its kuz it says dont tread on me
Andrew Boyer that is a cool round 👍🏽🔥🐉
I primarily deal with SDBullion and they are about the same price for the cheapest generic rounds or 10oz bars, or maybe the rounds have a slight price advantage. Minted, not poured bars are cool to me though.
Robert Kubrick yeah they have some good sales from time to time 👍🏽🔥🐉
Why melt them to begin with? What is the purpose of doing it?
Adam Martin I like to make silver art 😁🔥🐉
If you’re a prepper stacker, there’s an argument for both as, like LCS’s, some people will want to barter in bars and some in rounds
is there any legal issues with melting down coins with a face value? curious if its considered defacing or something, would love to turn my stack into some lit chains and other nonsense?
edit: i mean like the silver maple leafs or the eagles
Scooters Fish it’s legal to melt anything down that’s silver 👍🏽🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 awesome so excited to hear that I love knowing I can freely travel with as much jewelery as I want. Love the content keep it up brother!

I like 5oz bars ( Pioneer metal) & 1oz rounds ( Buffalo)... but thinking about getting at least 200 oz of the 10oz Buffalo bars too... Just
Hey man, what's that "gold/silver bull bar"..? Be well, be safe
I acquired several hundred ozt sovereign before I started stacking bars. That's when the disease became uncontrollable. 10 oz bars, then kilos, even a few 100s. Any generic rounds or more sovereigns? Yep. ☹️ It truly becomes an addiction, quickly.
I like both..... but when it comes to bars I do only vintage.
AuRebel very nice! 🔥🐉
I was doing a lot of bars for the past years now doing more rounds.
Money Recall yep rounds are what’s up 👍🏽🔥🐉
Why did you say you melt down your silver?
I like the silver rounds better there easier to put into furnace LoL Thanks For Sharing 💥💥💥👍👍👍
Bradley Hight lol yes they do fit nicely 😁🔥🐉
Test slide please show and demo.
I personally stick with rounds for 1 ozT and bars for anything larger
I collect coins as it is. Those coins would be amazing addition to my collection
I stack rounds more because of the interesting designs
bigM10231 yeah those are super fun 👍🏽🔥🐉
SG great vid as usual. If you are melting, why not buy silver shot? Cost is probably a little lower and you don't need a "master key".
I was also wondering why you did not put the WHY stack in your vid? In your question about generic...Wealth preservation and SHTF seem like the 2 main reasons for these items that have no numismatic value....no flip-ability because they are just generic. Wealth preservation it is all about low cost/premiums. Buy low, sell later (hopefully high, but at least above inflation). I think that in SHTF it is also about low cost/premiums AND the ability to sell trade small amounts for goods/services should factor in. In that case, maybe silver shot should also be added into the mix as a "generic". I could imagine an after the SHTF, when things settle down, buying and selling with scales weighing items and precious (and non-precious) metals.
Your thoughts?
you missed one key difference between them: Playing around with them. 10 oz bars make better paperweights. Coin tricks are easy with 1 oz rounds. You can do poker chip games with the 1oz rounds, but there is some satisfaction in the heft of the 10oz bars. If you want to do some engraving or art or such, 10 oz bars are a better palette.
Nice!!🤙
Rippin lips57 thanks so much! 🔥🐉
I’m imagining a silver stack so big that safe space is a concern. I want that problem.
both... but my heart is in bars
I am going for the bars. I don't want fancy designs, just a reputable name.
Rounds and answer please

In this case, I would go with the bars over the rounds (which I would not likely ever buy).
Still haven’t got any rounds stacked up?
I like them both so it doesn't really matter for me
michael wallace nice stack on! 🔥🐉
The over spot is everything, in my opinion.
What does spot mean! Does silver cost more than the spot price!
@@gossman75 spot is set by the comex, and it dose not coast more than spot to produce. You will never buy silver at or below spot in a consistent commercial setting. Maybe in a one off now and then.

Yankee Stacking lol 100% 😁🔥🐉
Team bars 4 ever. Nice video btw.
So...newbie here. Why are you melting the bars on your own? Wouldn't that invalidate the value? Wouldn't govt minted coins be more easily traded, sold etc? People could question the integrity of bars or rounds.
There are collectors who pay more for "artistic value". There's a community of hand poured silver collectors.
