  • One of three new Whelen 2900 series sirens in Shakopee, located at the west end of 17th Ave E, sounding Alert. This video was taken about 75 ft. from the base of the siren's pole.
I originally had plans to go and record the OM-120 in Hancock MN, but I ended up having an obligation in Shakopee at 1:30, so I decided to record one of their brand new Whelens instead. This was my first time hearing a Whelen stack siren of any kind, and it didn't really impress me. Even though it had 8 speaker cells, this siren really didn't sound all that loud to me, even compared to other omni sirens such as the T-121, or even the Modulator in Eden Prairie.
A few other sirens can be heard in this video, including two notable ones at the end, a 435Hz 2900 series and a 560Hz Whelen that didn't shut off with the rest of the system. I'm assuming the 435Hz siren is the 2905 at Pottok Ln. and Nordland St. (1.3 Mi) Since the next closest potential 435HZ siren is a 2906 at 2.3 Mi. The 560Hz Whelen, I'm not sure of at all, there are a few candidates around Shakopee, but telling between them and this distance is nearly impossible.
I will eventually be going back to Shakopee to record one of their 435Hz 2905s, hopefully some time this winter.

    Boring 560HZ.
Fun fact: You can see this exact siren from that 2805 near the apartments on Eagle Creek
