    Thank you do much for this! I was trying to remove the electronic ignition switch from my 2003 G Wagon--and couldn't figure out "the trick" for getting that threaded collar to move without damaging it.

    How to remove ignition Mercedes-Benz 1997 180

    • @all-about-cars-basics
      @all-about-cars-basics  3 дні тому

      For the older Mercedes models, the removal process is slightly different than the one on the video. Here are a few pointers on how to remove that.
      First, Remove lower instrument panel cover below steering wheel. Remove snap-in panel around ignition key cylinder. Disconnect
      wiring connectors from steering lock housing and from rear of ignition switch. Turn ignition key to No. 1 position.
      Loosen steering lock housing retaining clamp bolt, located near steering column.
      In locking pin, located to left of retaining clamp on jacket tubing. Leave retaining clamp on jacket tubing. Pull steering lock housing out of jacket tubing slightly.
      Remove ignition key to enable removal of steering lock housing from jacket tubing. With steering lock housing removed from jacket tubing, ignition switch can now be removed from rear of
      steering lock housing by removing 3 retaining screws
      And just like that the ignition will be out. I hope the above information is helpful. And If I have access to one of this bad-boys, I will make a small video to show how to. Let me know how it goes.

      It will not work with the key unless you program them to work together.

    The ignition in my W202 (2000 C230) sometimes makes a clicking noise when the car is on. Any ideas why?
    Thank you in advance!

    • @all-about-cars-basics
      @all-about-cars-basics  Місяць тому

      I have not heard many cases where noise comes from the ignition switch. The ones common with W202 models is noise coming from around the dashboard area and that one usually is related to bad a/c flap actuators. But for your case, I think it may be an electrical issue with your ignition.

    But does it need to register the new ignition switch and key to the car main computer board?

      If you are replacing a new key FOB and new EIS yes, you have to have it programmed to the car.

      Now it's easy to remove and put back.

    Good video also I have a question. : when you replace the electronic ignition switch ( EIS) you also need to replace the electronic steering lock ( ESL) ? Cause my Mercedes has the steering wheel locked I put the key in but does not turn and just onces the steering wheel unlocked but the car did not start. I took the battery to a battery shop they said the battery is fully charge

    My ignite switch fell inside while I was just turning the key, so now I’m watching videos trying to see if there is a minimally invasive way to get it back out so I can start the car but it’s looking to be too difficult for me to do so 😢

    • @all-about-cars-basics

      Sorry about that. I think the easy way would be to remove the steering lower cover and it is just right there. If you want to use it while there then you will forego the cover for now. But I would not advise that. What I would advise is look for the front part of the lock that came out and put it together. It is really easy and will fix your problem. Let me know how it goes.

    • @all-about-cars-basics
      @all-about-cars-basics  7 місяців тому

      @@PedroHernandez-bx2qi It sounds like you may be experiencing an electrical issue with your car. The fact that your car turns on and cranks, but none of your accessories work on the dash, suggests a possible problem with the electrical system. This could be caused by a faulty fuse, a loose connection, or a problem with the wiring.
      But if all of these started when you started having problems with your key and ignition switch, I think you should have your key checked because the key's transponder may be going bad. Most cases I have had, it's not usually the EIS that goes bad. But it's the key's transponder that does.
