  • We are back to the house where it all started...my first few videos on this channel were of this home. This home had issues with carpet beetles and pantry moths. After cleaning up the kitchen, living room, her son's room, and three bathrooms, I left there thinking things were under control and that she was making good progress on her own, and she was, so it was a surprise to me when I texted her a few weeks ago just to see how things were coming along and this was the response I got:
    "We have gotten a little bit more done at the house, but not as much as I would like. I've had some health issues comes up that have made it harder for me to clean and honestly my anxiety has made it hard, too. My neck has been hurting since early this year and at some point it became so painful that I couldn't turn my head which made it hard to drive or do much of anything. I went and got an MRI and have a few things going on in my cervical spine that are causing nerve pain and they're wanting me to get injections that will help with the pain and potentially help with the inflammation and, if that doesn't relieve the pain, I might have to get surgery. On top of that, my husband and I have been wanting to get pregnant, but haven't been able to due to my latest test showing positive for polyps in my uterus (this is the second time), so I will have to get surgery to remove the polyps either later this month or next month. Anyway, all of it has been too much, so I haven't been doing much, But I started feeling like there's more to my struggle to get this house clean. I have some pretty bad memories there with my ex-husband." -- then she goes on and tells about the abuse, which I told her I would leave out the details -- "I think the longer I've been staying away from that house, the more I've felt like I could never go back and I keep thinking it's just because of the bugs, but I think it's also because of the PTSD associated with my ex-husband. So, this past week, we started looking at houses and we're strongly considering selling our house. However, that still means we need to clean our house so, if we find somewhere we'd like to go, we're gonna have a big push to move everything to storage pretty quickly."
    There is more to this story which I will explain in the video, but that is the gist of what's going on here. I have really grown to love this woman and feel bad that she has been through so much and would love nothing more than to see her get a fresh start in a new home.

    Really like watching these help-one-another videos. Thanks for posting. (Slight comment about client's health. If she has neck, back, or nerve pain, I highly recommend people try chiropractors before leaping to surgeries. However, not all chiropractors are equal, choosing one that is very reputable with a good practice is important. I have Multiple Sclerosis, my mom has a sensitive neck, my dad has poor hips, the chiropractors have saved us so much pain.)

    • @ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp
      @ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I have tried chiropractors before and I almost always leave in more pain than I came in with. I have tried different ones over the years. There was one I found where I used to live who I felt did a better job, but then I moved and I haven't been back to one since. I know they are super helpful for a lot of people though and, you're right, I'm sure it depends on the chiropractor. I found physical therapists to be more helpful, but even that only helps for so long before I end up needing surgery. This woman is trying everything she can to avoid surgery though, which is wise. I avoided it as long as I could as well, but unfortunately, ended up needing it after I tried everything.

    I have found that as a person with physical problems that the only way to not have my home a pile of clutter within two months is to have a daily routine. Got to do a little each day. AND have small dustbins in a lot of places (which can be easily emptied each day.) In each bedroom, in the sitting area, in an office area, in the bathroom, in the kitchen of course, in the dining room, in play areas. Having a place where bits and pieces can be thrown within three or four steps - and with a flip of the wrist for each bin/container they can be emptied into one bag which can then be thrown out each day.

    I love your videos, have so much admiration for your compassion and selfless giving of your time and hard work so that others have a fresh start. After reading a few of the comments I would just like to say that I do think it’s important to share a little of the background of their situation that caused this and you do it very respectfully as does, Auri, Barbie and Mack. I am 64, have had 26 surgeries to include 4 total knee replacements, back and neck disc surgeries, use a cane and a walker and also care for my 85 year old mom with Alzheimer’s. I am the opposite, am and have always been OCD clean so needless to say is a huge physical challenge but my way of coping with the constant physical pain (I’m allergic to all pain meds) and the unbelievable emotional challenges of dealing with Alzheimer’s. Many times people say “you look great and your home is always beautiful “. I internal response is blind people look great but still can’t see so many times people don’t realize the real hidden struggles that one is living with. Great job❤❤

    • @ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp
      @ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp  Рік тому +4

      Thanks so much for your comment. I know it's not the most cheery video, but I, too, think it IS important to share people's struggles. I think so many people feel like they are the only ones going through a specific struggle and, for some reason, it just feels better to know you aren't the only one. It gives me hope and makes my own burdens seem manageable. And, holy cow, 26 surgeries?!! That is WAY too many for one person. And without being able to take pain meds, I can't even imagine the constant pain you must be in on top of dealing with the emotional challenges of helping your mother with Alzheimer's...one of the most awful diseases you can witness and one that is usually harder on the caregiver than the person with the Alzheimer's (runs in our family, too). I'm so sorry! But, you're right, we put on a happy face and just push forward so it's hard for people to know how big our struggles are sometimes. My heart goes out to you and your mother!❤❤

    Thank you for talking about executive dysfunction. I have ADHD - Primarily inattentive (formerly known as ADD). ADHD is well known around the world, but what it actually means to have ADHD, seems much less known. Like just the name doesn't describe it enough, executive dysfunction does so much better. As a result of this being less known, when you say you have ADHD, it's more often shrugged off than it should be. Many don't see how serious it can be for some people. But of course, executive dysfunction isn't only in ADHD, it's also a part of depression, brain damage and more, but just talking from my own perspective and my own experience :)

    I hope she sells this house and moves to a new home. My advise is to only unpack what she needs to begin with to keep maintenance to the minimum. She can´t go through much decluttering now, she must be in a better place for that 💜 I did this; I have an illness that makes it hard for me to maintain the home like it was but I also can´t push myself to get rid of too much. I somehow managed to strip down to somewhat minimalist living but stored the rest of my things in upper cabinets and in my storage room. So very, very helpful on my journey to better health.

      Great advice! I have been pretty surprised with how much decluttering she actually has done while we've been packing things up. I think a lot of it was easy to get rid of if it had any association with her first marriage and, because she wasn't functioning for so long, most of that stuff was buried. Once it surfaced, she didn't hesitate to get rid of it. But, I agree, taking her time to unpack things into a new house will help because I think it's amazing how little we can actually live with. We don't need all the "stuff" that just takes more time and energy to take care of. Thanks for your suggestions!

    Watching cleaning videos usually helps ease my anxiety, but these detailed sad stories don't help cheer me up one bit.

      Sad stories happen. The take away from this should be, if we don’t have such deep struggles as this gal does, to be thankful and count our blessings. An additional lesson should be that judging others sucks bc we just never know what’s going on in others lives!

      I think the sad stories belong with the clean up. And with the clean up comes HOPE. And hope is SO all important. My house is a mess too, but after seeing a video like this I find a box and fill it or empty it. Sometimes only in part, but I DO something.
      Our basement is being "haunted" by water from below, so a lot of thing have to be protected from water. Ideally we should empty the basement, but we don't have the room upstairs. So we empty by throwing out, donating and selling extras. We are of an age, where we downsize, because we need to move within a few years to a smaller place.

      Keep up the good work, I love your content and attitude. As an aside, what is it with American houses and carpets, I’m not saying houses don’t have carpets in England but we have a lot more hard wood floors, which are much easier to clean. I only have carpet on the stairs.

      Thank you Antonia, Thor, and Sadie for your responses to this. I know it's not the most motivating or cheery cleaning video, but I figure there are plenty of those out there. I love a good motivating cleaning video, but I also want to bring more awareness to the mental health aspect of things and how rampant it is and also how it touches so many parts of a person's life. Everything may look perfect or at least completely normal in the lives of people we associate with, but you never really know what is going on behind closed doors. I just want to show this side of those closed doors to help people have more compassion for others and treat everyone as if they are going through something pretty rough because they very well could be.

    You are the organizing queen! I have never seen anyone pack a tub so well! You are right, that nerve pain from the spine is horrendous! I have had two rounds of surgeries with two at a time in the same week. I had 3 dics repaced and had my shifted spine stabilized with plates and screws so I know how bad that pain is! I hope she gets some relief soon.

      Yes, you're correct. This is actually what we are doing to treat everything as we pack it up is we sprinkle a little bit into each tote/box before we start packing things to make sure we are killing everything before moving it to storage. Then we sprinkle it all over the carpets after the room is cleared. I meant to talk about that in this video, but I will on the next one.

      LOL! That's actually why I said it that way.😄 In one of my very early videos, I cleaned the room of the boy who lives here and he had about a million water bottles and I found myself saying, "oh look, more water bottles," not really even intending to say it like Mack, but it came out that way and so I thought it would be funny to say it just like Mack in this one...haha! I still need to get me one of his shirts.😜👍

      Thank you. So, we are actually treating all of the boxes/totes with a sprinkle of Borax before packing them to kill off anything we may inadvertently pack up. I looked this up and this seems to be the best way to not bring the infestation to a new home. I forgot to mention that in this video, but I will on my next one. If you look at the tote before I start packing up the Funko Pops, you'll see the white powder at the bottom of the tote.
