I’m currently using these dish mats to make placemats…quilt as you go with fabric strips…really fun and pleased with results…I am binding them. As always, thank you, Robin!!
Hi Cecilia…I am putting a backing on…fusing it with a fusible powder (Quilters Select)….Instead of a 2.5” cut binding, I cut a 4 inch binding that makes it easier to wrap around..I stitched it on a half inch from the edge. Also, I did prewash and dry all the fabric! I am doing a fun stitch at all the seams to further “quilt” it in place. This is a fast project and really fun! Hope this helps!
I have a lot of scissors, bought over the years. Some for the kitchen, some for DIY. I have quite a few for crafting and sewing..... lots for sewing - mini's, medium, large, 2 pinkers, and some not used yet; bought for me for Xmas. I'll count them up one day 😄 We had snow ❄ yesterday!! Enjoy your Sunday 🧶🪡🧵
I think a basket full of all your ideas would make a great shower gift. I need to get busy doing this. I have a favorite pair of scissors for machine applique. One for hand applique. One for sewing.. One for hand quilting. It's honestly gotten a bit crazy. Lol
I used to teach art at an after school and I have tons of scissors, from decorative to fabric ones, for sewing I have a pair that is over 35years old and they are very sharp still. Thanks for the tutorial 😀. Have a great weekend.
Sounds like you have a fun collection of scissors. I’ve seen people pass scissors down from generation to generation. Those heavy black handled scissors tend to last for years and years. Such good quality tools from the last.
I have a pair or more of scissors just about everywhere I might be doing work. Between the fabric ones, paper ones, little ones for snipping, you can find them all over my house.
I have several pairs of scissors. A favorite fabric cutting pair, a favorite craft/paper pair (Fiskars kitchen scissors), a favorite embroidery pair, a favorite heavy fabric cutting pair (Fiskars titanium nitride from the hardware store), thread snips, and several small pairs from DollarTree (one with each set of craft tools, and one in each traveling project bag). I like not needing to worry about my travel project scissors. 😀
These are really Cool. Will have to make something for my brother's. I have about 15 pairs of scissors between all my crafts, 😅 not as many as you. I will have to check our dollar stores to how many I a case with them. Great idea. 😊
Thanks. I bought a case of drying mat and It was 12. I felt that was a reasonable amount even if someone was using them for gift giving. One as a gift is nice but two are nice too. I like to rotate between two mats. That way I don’t have to wash them right away. I hope you’re doing well.
I always like topstitching within the 1/4” to reinforce the seam (just in case). I’ve a fav pr of snips I prefer to use but only have 3 pr of actual scissors. Thanks for the tutorial, Robin 🦩

Great idea! Thanks for posting your idea!
I am wondering if you are adding any backing fabric or just sewing off the edge and adding your binding to cover the thread ends 😉😊

@@sandylynn8688 Fabulous! I love hearing how others work and make great projects. Thank you for responding. 😊

Counting our scissors might be a little scary. We had some rain last night. It seems late in the season for snow but I could be mistaken.

I think most of us are crazy about their scissors. Each project or craft needs a certain type of scissors.
This is a really neat idea for a quick gift to someone who starting out in a new apartment or house. Thank you!
Glad you like it!
I love this idea. I'm going to use this for my plants after they've been watered to get out any excess water 👍🏻
That's a great idea!

Cute projection. I love my Kai scissors. Blessings.
They are pretty terrific.
Good job
Thanks Robin. ❤❤❤

I will be making some. The size is perfect.
It is a nice size. Plus if you need more room add a second mat. Happy Sewing!!

Scissors is a tool that we need several of in each room around the house. I know I’m always reaching for a pair for some reason or another. ✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️

I agree. I like to have a small pair of scissors in each project bag. Dollar tree scissors are usually perfect for notion pouches.

Thanks for the tutorial, Robin 🦩
Good point! When I first started quilting I taught myself free motion quilting. That way I could quilt over the seams to help reinforce them 😉
Thanks, cool project 🙂
Glad you like it!
I love this idea ❤ tfs
You are so welcome!
Thank you Robin Sincerely Your Friend Lynne

You also could make place Matt’s with them 🪡🧵👍🏻🤗🦩🦩🦩😊
Yes! A few people said that they do make placemats from the dish mats. Definitely protect the table from a hot plate.
