Love this game to absolute death, but Ouroboros remains the undisputed best final boss of the series. Not even just the series, a top tier final jrpg boss of all time. That said, they nailed the tracks for Night's Nexus, incredible music.
I dunno. Ouroboros is a lot more underwhelming than people seem to treat him as. Airy was a harder boss fight than he was by quite a bit. The one and only thing Ouroboros has going for him is Disaster and it's not really that difficult to neutralize it even with your white mage incapacitated by Divergence. For me I'd say the best is Providence even though he's very much the easiest. While you can absolutely cheese the hell out of both fights with Calm, I still respect that Square tried to do something really unique with him. There were tricks and gimmicks you had to puzzle out like any other boss. Sure they could have balanced him a lot better so that he wasn't such a pushover when you DID puzzle out the gimmicks, but it's the thought that counts.
@@blackknightjack3850 I will agree that providence was a great battle, its honestly one of the shining achievements of bravely second of which there were few in terms of what it did great. But I'm not just referring to ouroboros as best just on his skills and difficulty, the entire sequence itself is incredible. The music is legendary, the plot advancements in it are cool, and the atmosphere is great. It was a beyond fitting end to the game and it was very memorable.
@@milkinobama I think that's a fair difference of opinion, but I can say I despite ouroboros being my favorite the design of providence and his "delete your file" trick is pretty cool lol, hes only slightly under ouriboros for me while the Nexus is well below both excluding music which was amazing.
The ending scene is so freaking good. On top of how reserved she normally is making her reaction that much more touching, Gloria's lips just subtly shifting as though she's about to cry when she turns around and sees Seth is a beautiful touch that really conveys that feeling of how she feared she'd never see him again.

@@Onion_57 I really feel like it was an oversight. The idea behind making power increase based on speed is not a bad idea, obviously fits into the name. But they really should have capped it. As is, there is no reason to not just one shot everything. Really ruined end game in my opinion.
@@xXFinalEntryXx It's more that it needed way better balancing. Just one does enough damage, so what possessed Square to have it hit TWICE? Moreover, why would they have this overpowered version's cost be MP? This would have been the perfect time to have the cost be like 3 BP or something.
Yeah, I feel after Chapter 4 or 5, the game's story took a nosedive. I honestly felt they shouldn't had treated the two bad endings as such, as it's not really alternate endings if you were FORCED to get them before you can get the true ending. In that regard, they shouldn't had bothered making Gambler and Salve-Maker sub-quests if you were gonna have to do them anyways. And as everyone else stated, Night's Nexus (and Edna) were both dreadfully underdeveloped. To this day it still blows my mind that the final boss of this game was right there in the cover all along. The people who makes this seroes lowkey scare the shit out of me with these meta points.
A lot of unanswered questions. What was Seth's original world? Were they just saying he should belong to the world of the dead? I thought he was from the world of Bravely Default 1 which is why he was the only character with an American accent. Why did Edna come to hate humans? It could be that the Night's Nexus influenced her, but it's never stated. Nothing was really done with Emma. I was expecting her to show up at some point to make up for the fact you're given the black mage asterisk without a boss fight. You just fight her phantom in an optional group boss fight. Does this have anything to do with the ending of Bravely Second with the Sword of the Brave and Deneb? Fairies are clearly different in this game.
The game's unrelated to the original or Bravely Second. That's why there's no cryst fairies, and why the sword of the brave isn't even in the game. What makes me wonder is why the game tells you Seth's life got cut short, but they never explain further on how he died exactly, or what happened.
@@voidoflight2420 Yeah, the Wind Crystal does say that someone wanted Seth's "thread to be cut short". I really thought the party would encounter them in the endgame.
@@chrisdaughen5257 When you delete the Nexus’s save file, you are treated to a cutscene of hands grasping someone in first person, likely with killing intent. Then, the camera pans from there to the ocean, then to the beach where Seth first woke up. When using the omnibrave to save Seth, the Nexus tries that same attack, but Seth avoids it by releasing the bravery inside of him. One of the Nexus’s attacks is called “A Life Cut Short” and deals instant death. Mag Mell has a diary that says Inanna (Night’s Nexus human form named after an Egyptian goddess) came there with a black-haired companion. He’s never named, but it’s interesting that Seth is also an Egyptian god… All things considered, Seth was probably this partner. The one who cut his life short was likely the Nexus after gaining such power and terrible knowledge.
@@Hadaron Yeah I thought of that. Inanna probably robbed Seth of all his memories of her when she killed him. The game tries to fool you into thinking he died in the shipwreck, but the shipwreck was probably the last memory he had before he met her. I forget the others’ last names, but Elvis Wesley is a spin-off of Elvis Presley. So I don’t think it has anything to do with the Egyptian god.

Villains tend to be absolute idiots when it comes to unleashing destructive evils that only exist to decimate everything in their path. They need to realize why such plans are a bad idea. What’s the first thing such an evil is going to kill -and possibly devour- once it’s released? Whoever released it!
Wanting an evil god to devour everything (including yourself) is not the worst motivation for a JRPG villain. However, we are given NO reason why Edna wants the world to burn when her friends say she actually liked humans. I was expecting to find something similar to Helmbrum from "Seven Deadly Sins" and maybe she was tricked into getting tortured by humans, making her incredibly nihilistic and seek out the Night's Nexus. But she's dropped out of the plot before we learn anything about her and it's so disappointing.
@@chrisdaughen5257 That’s why I wished this game had pulled a Bravely Second. Had you been able to rewind time, you could have stopped so much crap from happening and maybe even restored Edna.

So I just finished Bravely Default 2 and I really enjoyed this game. Was very nostalgic because it brought me back to all the JRPGs I played as child. The ending felt anticlimactic tbh, they should have combined the bad endings into one. I also would have appreciated an extra phase to this final boss battle and a little more flourish when the night nexus died. Even though I liked the game alot, I was sooooo happy to be done. I clocked in at 97 hours when I finished.
@@georgielockhart6686 I didn't mind how the bad endings were done, and I could care less if the final boss had an extra phase, but I do wish we got to see more for the ending. Granted some of the late side quests do give an ending vibe, but I kind of wish there was more. Still, this is probably my favorite of the Bravely games so far. It's definitely not as repetitive as the other two would sometimes get.
Am I the only one who thought the ending was a disappointment? I mean hell, they flat out say Seth is from somewhere beyond the Outer Sea and yet it never gets touched on... And now that I think about it, how the fuck would he have known what Silversmelt is when he is from another world!?
@Maximilian Kinney Well with Fiole you know she's dead because she got crushed. The loose ends I'm primarily talking about is how Aileen flat out says that Seth is from the Outer Sea only for it to just be ignored by the others. Like holy hell they literally learn that the guy they have been traveling with is from another world and they ignore it
Most likely they’re going to make a follow up for this one like they did with the first one and they might explore that. Hopefully they add more stuff to the game, because this one was probably the weakest one of the series. Still a good game though.
I like to think that Seth is from our world, he died in the sea and then the crystal chose him and sent to excillant. Similar to Tiz in BD, where our "soul" give him literally life and hope.

I think the only nitpick I have is..like...is Edna dead lol? In the original ending they show she becomes the new physical human vessel for it. However, they show in the ending here and in the default ending that the Nexus does have a physical form (possibly Inanna's tainted body?), but it possibly can't enter the human realm with it? So like, with that the real version destroyed with the book, does that mean Edna was free from Inanna's corruption and loves humans again? Or did I miss something?

The beastmaster's second specialty (at level 12) raises all of your stats based on how many monsters you've captured. You can literally farm as many weak monsters as you want and reach ridiculous stats quickly. I beat the game at level 50 that way, it's crazy

Yes, it was underwhelming. I almost feel like they conceptually made Edna, plus chapter 6 Night's Nexus, plus the final Night's Nexus the whole final boss across chapters which obviously doesn't feel complete. @@thechurchofshulkanism1077 It has the inverse problems/achievements. Contrast, BD2's pacing to the boss is significantly less contrived and bloated with repetition, yet the boss itself is not a big challenge, stakes don't feel as high even though they are (possibly because after defeating Adam, nothing happens between the other kingdoms and characters, feels like everyone's awkwardly completed their arcs and are just waiting for the heroes of light to finish the game now) and the final dungeon was just a copy + paste of the world map with some added darkness effects (not even the music is different). They could've used the memory thing to erase save files and make it a reason for the player's loop (like, after you beat the false ending every time, you get the option to save Clear Files and when you load them to do post-game you find yourself back at the beginning again). There are multiple ending. You can still get all the ending on one playthtough. You just have to continie. On thr saved file. The game hints you where to go
You have to collect every Asterisk, even Bravebearer, Salve-Maker, and Gambler. Then you have to overwrite the Nexus’s soul in the save menu and then visit the old lady in one of the boat shops.
Having played all of the above and without spoilering, this is how I see it. Bravely Default (the original) with Tiz and friends wraps up with a cliffhangerish ending. Like a TV show or movie that has a teaser at the end. To be continued. Bravely Second is the continuation or second half of the original Bravely Default story. Bravely Default 2 exists in a completely different timeline from BD1. BD2 is it's own stand alone story with all new characters, no mention of Tiz or the others. You could play BD2 without ever playing BD1 and the story is intact. So, Bravely Second: End Layer is a continuation of BD1. You'd really need to play BD1 first before Bravely Second would make sense. That said, the two stories of BD1 and BD2 are not connected at all. Completely separate. As for the chronological order, I'm guessing BD2 happens before BD1 because there's tech in BD1, but no real tech in BD2 aside from an airship and it was thought to be incredible and mind blowing to power a ship with a crystal. Also, the crystals are small in this game. Hand held size. They're HUGE in BD1. It's my opinion that the Bravely Default Universe storyline is being given to us in a reverse chronological order like Star Wars. BD2 the crystals are small, there's no advanced technology, research is being done on how to harness the power of asterisks and crystals. Fast forward to BD1 and they've learned how to grow the crystals in size and power, they use asterisks, power ships, and entire cities with the crystals. After playing BD2, BD1 now makes a lil bit more sense. So, in closing, based on my opinion, if you wanted to play the entire Bravely Default series in the storyline's chronological order (not by release date), you would want to play it in this order. Bravely Default 2 -> Bravely Default 1 -> Bravely Second: End Layer.

I gave everyone the Maximize HP passive from the monk and instant death immunity. Not a single death the entire battle.

When you delete the Nexus’s save file, you are treated to a cutscene of hands grasping someone in first person, likely with killing intent.
He’s never named, but it’s interesting that Seth is also an Egyptian god…
All things considered, Seth was probably this partner.
It’s just a shame the game never really incorporates Seths past into the story (if it’s true).
Btw I think the gimmick with the party members is that they’re all named after famous singers. I forget the others’ last names, but Elvis Wesley is a spin-off of Elvis Presley. So I don’t think it has anything to do with the Egyptian god.
the buildup up to this boss was so anticlimatic holyshit. Awesome game, but after beating edna turns terrible
Hey anime kid that’s not how it works. A game can’t be “ awesome and then terrible “ it’s one or the other. A great game with anticlimactic ending? Sure, but saying something is “ bad “ is the hallmark of a kid who’s never thought critically
@@riplix20 actually a game very well can be "good then bad". That's an accurate critical view on how something can hold your attention, and if the story went from great to lackluster, that can be seen as "good to bad".
@@riplix20 that's exactly how it works.
Lol what a moron. Of course things can be good and then bad. This game started off good but became attrocious. The 3 endings aren’t necessary and added nothing new. @@riplix20 what does them liking anime have to do with anything?

@@georgielockhart6686 I didn't mind how the bad endings were done, and I could care less if the final boss had an extra phase, but I do wish we got to see more for the ending. @Maximilian Kinney Well with Fiole you know she's dead because she got crushed. The loose ends I'm primarily talking about is how Aileen flat out says that Seth is from the Outer Sea only for it to just be ignored by the others. Most likely they’re going to make a follow up for this one like they did with the first one and they might explore that. Hopefully they add more stuff to the game, because this one was probably the weakest one of the series. Still a good game though.

They are comments about the story rather than the gameplay, and they are right because after all the cool country arcs and asterisk battles, the lead up to the Nexus felt pretty on and off broken

@@Onion_57 I like it. The fight itself is nice, it's not as crazy stupid as BS but the whole remembering thing was nice, and the changing the future aspect of the story was wayyyy better than BD1s stupid crystal loop
I never got to the end, the game became boring and repetitive and annoying. So sad
if this is the second game then what's Bravely Second?
Well, technically, it isn't the second game, but bravely second was great imo

@@Wabungaplab Yeah, its honestly really frustrating, but not unexpected unfortunately. The game is really good, and a lot of love and care obviously went into it, but there's so much petty nitpicking online.
Like I won't deny I'm sad it doesn't really have any narrative connections to BD1 and that the narrative hook with Ringabel's organization wasn't pursued, but its still a well done story. Honestly I'd go so far as to say that all the characters in this game are on the same level, if not higher, than Bravely Default. They just feel better thought out and implemented, especially the Asterisk bearers and other minor characters.
I thought this was pretty good however the ending scene where it’s completely silent except for the noise of their footsteps and the sea came off as really awkward to me…
Ahh soy lv 50 y con razon sufri con el ultimo boss XD
I literally two shot the Nights Nexus because I had Seth with the Ultima Sword HP/MP Converter, Across The Board and Surpassing Power setup with Bravebearer/Hellbalde lol
The characters and story pale in comparison to Bravely Default or Bravely Second, I can't get attached to the characters or the story in this game at all.
Yeah. Going back and fighting the same bosses 5 times was such compelling story.
@@frogglen6350 oh God, that part made me stop playing BD. Repeating the same shit got old fast.
@@frogglen6350 That was completly optional, unless you are talking about the Crystal bosses and not the asterisk holders. I understand why people might get bored at that part, but that part is better enjoyed as lore-building and a mean to develop your strategies, instead of always relying on the same combos. You might be fighting the same bosses, but their strats change each fight. If you don't care about the battle aspect of the game or the bosses' backstory , then of course you are gonna get bored.
The characters have no charisma and the enemy/boss designs are dull as hell. Bring back Yoshida.
@@BakingSoda4U "that's optional"
Not really. If you want to happiest ending, you gotta do it. Debunked
Good
75% of players sold the game without finish it. Thank you, developers!
Source?
one of the worst endings ever...
Third comment
I don't mind the main guy actually but the rest of the cast has really bad voices lol
How dare you, Elvis is perfection
First comments.
Bad story
Who game was fucking awful can't believe I spent actually money on this piece of shite
Glad I never bought this garbage
Coming from a brony, this is kinda ironic.
I don't think you could enjoy it anyways with that low level of thought process. Back to Minecraft for you!
@Macco I was on something a year ago in this thread eh? 😅 still true though lolllll
Yo wtf ending is that nevermind this some zelda kind type of ending lol
A happy no nonsense ending? All of them had that? Literally all of the bravely games involve the main characters hooking up?
@@riplix20 Only in Second tho, BD made Tiz's fate ambiguous since he releases his soul and collapses before Second revived him
@@riplix20 you ask too many questions
Hey what your thoughts on game can you make a review please thank you
I loved the game, the artwork, the music and the characters I completed all the subquests and reached level 99 with all the classes at level 15 but to what end? This???? I was SOOO disappointed by the end game, not gonna lie... I felt like 105 hours of my life were just wasted, I was waiting for an exciting true ending like the first two games certainly not this one it was way too rushed for my tastes honestly :(((
