Anyone ever hear any explanation for why Sean has cut out the rest of the lyrics for this song? (thunder/rain, pleasure/pain, darkness/light)...I always loved that part of the song & miss it quite a bit :(
I think it was because of his voice. Like he said in the beginning of this video he was losing his voice. So he probably wasn't able to sing more in order to protect his voice.
I think it's not only that. Judging from the other live videos, they performed this semi-acoustic version without the chorus time and again after it was released in 1998. It might be preferred due to the original studio version being actually a demo version (I know that from one of the latest Sean's interviews). A proper studio version was released only at the end of 2019, and then the band wasn’t able to give concerts, so I can't be sure if they would switch to that version. But during the online 2020 show the song was performed with chorus and all. I don’t dig music recording, but I believe a technical side is greatly involved here. Or maybe not :)
