If it dont apply, let it fly. Im referring to those who made up their minds already before watching. Anyways Thanks for watching and commenting! Helps me in the algorithm. Have an awesome day!
my main problem is that live action remakes cant be either super faithful or evolve the original I think the new avatar show is a good remake and show but whats the point in spending millions of dollars on a show that just cant be the original or as good I didn't expect a masterpiece so Its fine but I just personally cant get invested into stuff like these remakes because of that fact the only live action remake I've watched is this avatar show and honestly its fine. pretty good actually but i honestly probably wont watch season 2
Some Atla fans need to touch grass 😭 the series was not bad, people expect shows to come perfect on their first season, but they must make mistakes so for season 2 they can learn about them
I expected Aang to still be the runaway kid running away from his responsibilities and UNDISCIPLINED I wanted to see Katara's annoying Motherly care for the Gaang I wanted to see Sokka's sexism, which mind you only lasted during that Kyoshi Island bit I wanted to see Bumi make jokes and still positive despite being an Old King who has seen the many horrors of the world (The jokes went to Roku btw) They kept the Secret Tunnel backstory but decided to replace Kataraang for Sokkatara anyway, like I get Sibling Love exists, but they had every chance to just do the Sibling Love IN THE NORTH POLE I can't complain about Azula because people will just turn it into "Fatshaming" even tho only trolls are calling her fat whereas the real complaints are "She doesn't look terrifyingly evil at first glance" The visual effects and the visual world sure is beautiful tho, like it was stripped out of the cartoon, yet they didn't do the same for the story. All these changes because they wanted to humanize Ozai and the Fire Nation more... (I heard somewhere that Azula and Mai actresses are related to the Director in some way so I guess it had to happen??? Not entirely sure) WATCH THEM REMOVE THE BLIND JOKES BECAUSE "They can't 1:1 fiction into reality" LIKE THEY DIDN'T JUST 1:1 THE WORLD DESIGN OUT OF A CARTOON
Not awful, but there are some questionable changes. As for the "you don't have to watch it, just watch the original" sentiment. It's reasonable, but the existence of this mediocre show means that we won't get a great live action adaptation for quite a while, if ever. Also, it's a bold assumption that the people not liking the show went in already hating it. Are there people like that? Most likely. I for one was ready to like it a lot, but it was lackluster, and I'm just as entitled to my opinion as you.
I personally think Avatar is better suited for animation. But we got this show, and it is what it is. It's enjoyable, we got new fans, and a reminder of why we love Avatar! I think that's pretty cool.
I said this same thing on a different youtube video and got absolutely blasted by the fan base. This is not a replacement for ATLA. It’s not shot for shot or one to one but it’s using the source to make a fun retelling of the events. Yes the writing is bad and the pacing is goofy but these children are trying to recreate the same flame from almost 20 years ago. Nigga I watched ATLA when I was 5. Give these kids some slack.
Avatar fans are annoying? No one said it has to be like the show or be better than the show. We said it has to have the same elements and qualities in the writing and the character development which it did not. The dialogue felt forced and character development happened off screen. It’s an ADAPTATION of the animated series, not a stand alone series, so to completely rewrite what you want to rewrite or change fundamental aspects is not ok. That’s like being told to read the LoTR books and write a report on it, then you start talking about GoT. It doesn’t work
@Eh.........I can’t speak for anyone else, but I personally don’t like it. Idc if anyone else does or doesn’t. But I personally felt as if it did a disservice to fans. If they wanted to make something different I think they should’ve made this about another avatar, or about a later point in Aangs life. Something we haven’t seen
@Eh......... right, if I want the original show, I’ll just watch it, like I am doing now, I even have my wife watching it with me and we’re on book 3 now. Even her who has seen this show for the first time after the live action said it was weird that they pretty much rewrote the entire story and wrongly portrayed the characters.
I think most of you guys are being critical to the point where I question how you guys enjoy anything. I see your point, but at the end of the day, we got new fans, the cartoon is still there, and we got more animated projects coming. I just think we should chill the fuck out a bit.

@@t1red3yez27 Uh, no it ain't. Uploader is right, you fanboys would be dissatisfied over everything that gets adapted in this franchise just because ANY changes are made. You're even nitpicking about it here, for fks sake!
It's average at best, and the humor is barely there at all with the characters feeling flat, plus the water bending was ass until near the finale but I did like the actors who played Aang, Sokka and Zuko besides that can't think of many positives it had.
I grew up with the cartoon and had a LOT of fun watching the Netflix show. It definitely has a soul and can improve over seasons. People should also keep in mind this is a kids show, damnit.
@@ZolPsykoThese dismissive reactions to disappointment and critiques Kind of drives home the point that it’s redundant to have these projects. Unless they’re really prepared to step up and do something challenging with it. costing hundreds of millions of dollars to produce only for the big reveal to stir up indifferent or patronized reactions. . It’s not a ‘fun killer’ response to not enjoy something because it fails to be enjoyable. We can farm the good moments, but overall it’s not a rewatchable home run. If we fail to showcase media literacy and point out juvenile writing in projects with insanely bloated budgets then we might as well say thank you to all mediocre media and usher it to award season because we’ve collectively decided to not care anymore. It’s not a feel good reaction to see people just shrugging and pointing to the source material when reacting to someone expressing fair criticism of the adaption. Shows how Pointless this all really was. Normalize letting people that look down on animation simply carry on with their lives and not cater to them with watered down adaptions. We shouldn’t waste writers, makeup/costume department, + crew members time spending years creating something solely driven by the ‘it’s a gateway drug for people that hate animation.’ Crowd. Just take this live action wave for what it is: a dry business decision based on potential for sales. The silver lining is the exposure for new fans that don’t slight animation, and more coins in the creator’s purse. But the standalone result of these films shouldn’t be receiving flowers for what they are now. Middle of the road stuff can be good, but this was a slog even for those playing devil’s advocate. I am white knuckle fisting the couple of scenes I did like from this adaption with all my life. I don’t think anyone actively wants to hate content they were genuinely looking forward to.
@@BasedVegeta as I said: farm the good moments. It’s too hyperbolic to dismiss things with unfair amount of hate. I don’t get the mindset that someone being critical and just finding something okay means you are gatekeeping people or deterring them from liking said media. I want people to enjoy things. Why invite misery and complain about something lighthearted like fantasy media? At the end of the day it’s escapist media. No offence but it seems elitist to be shaming people for not blindly loving things. So that road can go two ways. We need to at least try to maintain our media literacy and have respect for source material. It’s Mike and Bryan’s creation at the end of the day and real people do get affected when they get phased out of their own work. I love the cast, they were all endearing and their promotion stuff shows how likeable and cool they are. I’m focusing on the writing faux pas’ that went down. I guess in hindsight most people will age out of enjoying the Netflix adaption because, like it or not, it was patronizing and not ready to be sent out to production.
Bruh, it's not that hard. If we are allowed to compare to the cartoon, this adaptation is quite bad. It's far better than M. Knight Shamalayan, but still bad. Most adaptations from book to big screen, or now miniseries the fans complain primarily about things being left out. ATLA Netflix's issue are bad enough that even if this adaptation was the first version of it, I wouldn't care for it. That's the substantial issue: even if we're not comparing it to the cartoon, we are judging it as normal TV then. It still falls short. If this version was the original IP, this show wouldn't have my attention beyond the first or second episode. They do little to expand where the main characters are going, why they are going there, and making me give a damn about what's at stake at the end of it. If the Fire Nation launched this brutal attack against the world 100 years ago, and 100 years later, the war is still going on, then Aang shouldn't be in a rush. Oh but on a rush to do what? How is he supposed to save the world? By learning all of the bending styles? This adaptation says he does it by mastering the Avatar state. Ok...why that? He seems to get into that state fine enough with the stakes are high in this series even if it doesn't always do it trivially at will. I'm not convinced of what the show alone is telling me. What's silly are the people who say "meh, don't compare it" and then don't realize the only reason they enjoy it at all is because you can fill in the gaping holes of plot and background that allows you to not care if this show under delivers. Adaptations get to be different, and they are responsible for communicating what matters in their version of the plot. In the fantasy action genre, you have to respect power levels and training reasonably well. The show did it wonderfully with just about every character who wasn't extremely strong at the start, getting stronger as things progressed. Game of Thones does it with many characters; hell even Lord of the Rings does it. Live action Avatar masks and butchers whatever the relative ability of characters and it is annoying. Sure, Katara offscreen trained, but her jump in ability was super silly considering how much less time had passed. Aang in the show, and even as stated in the adaptation, had already become a master in air bending. Zuko on the other hand is a somewhat strong firebender, but not near a master in his respective style. This means that if sticking to airbending, Aang has very little trouble dealing with Zuko but in the show, they made it seem like things were somewhat equal. I don't know who or how either of them will progress but it'll have to be sloppy and inconsistent. Lastly, the tone: who is this shit for? It's not funny and fun like the cartoon; and it only sometimes does a decent job at being serious. With how subpar the acting is in a lot of areas, you'll have a hard time attracting a following that series like GoT, Rings of Power, and The Witcher are trying to pull. To address some of your points head on: The only reason this show is able to be #1 in 73 countries is because the original cartoon was so great and talked about AND perhaps by virtue of the prior issue, turns out to be a monetary advantage: worldwide distributive appeal in live action. Shows that are too mature, or aimed at young kids don't play the same in different markets. It's right in the middle (think MCU Avengers) where you can appeal to some people in just about every market in the world. And if you're trying to just make money, you can cut your U.S. appeal in half, but if you pick up 3% of China and India you're still ahead. Pick up 5% or more and you're a huge success. Also, Sokka's actor in theory is some parts Native American, I don't care how official it is. And I can't tell what Katara is. Both look clearly more than white, so both are probably mixed. I think the way you mentioned this is stupidly insensitive. I'm black, first generation from immigrant parents. You do know why it's insensitive to ask or point out that a person who's fully black (both parents are black) appear light skinned right? Those generations of slave owner rape from white people mixed. Even if it's not that dark of a story or issue for Native Americans, of course many of them by now are of mixed blood. The casting did a great job finding them to match their characters. And at the same time, of course it's a shame that their performances couldn't be better -- I know it's not 100% something they could control.
Yea, i dont agree with people that say "Just dont compare it either". We cant help it lol. I just think people should chill out, because we still have the cartoon, and this show, like it or not, is reminding us why we love Avatar! I also dont understand the last part of your comment. That part of the vid was in reference to fans saying Sokka and Katara were "Whitewashed" and that the actors weren't Native American (they are). I could've edited that in so that's my bad. I didn't touch on it too much because the subject of colorism and colonization is a whole can of worms that can be another video. Anyway, I do want to thank you for adding to the discussion and being respectful 🙏🏿. Have a good day!
@@ZolPsykoPlus, there's far bigger problems in the world to focus on right now than be THAT concerned over a 'first world problem' like a live action adaptation of a beloved childhood cartoon. These people should just go out and touch grass, seriously
Okay, I just have to say. No matter how little I think about the show, saying it's worse than the movie is just being catty for absolutely no reason. Seriously? Even the show's acting was better, at least they got the names right 🙄
I lije the netflix show! I like the opening better than the cartoon. And it explores things in the show that the cartoon didnt as much. Like soilders being effected by iroh, zuko relationship with his father so ozai isnt just some mid villain with no emotions. And the 41 division was a GREAT addition to zuko backstory. It shows his love to his country
The show is bad in a story telling perspective . they took out all the meaning in it. Bomi revealing that he knows this is Ange takes out all the curiosity of why he does it. why Katara is going to the northern tribe to be accepted to learn under master Paku, just so she can teach Ange later, Ange coming to save the watertribe like he knows what he is doing. he couldn't help no one without heis friends. The only this I liked was the story of Zuko were they explains in a good manner why he lost all that and why Jee and the others start to respect him. Or the fact that the reason to motivate Azola into become better I thought that wasnt the right thing to do but it built a character. other then that if you look all the other motives of the story they have no meaning no good fights ( they can hit each other with fists... if i wanted that I will watch creed or something) nor the bendeing was not good all they do is pick a big rock or the fact that fire bender do more shekels or fists then fire ... water benders use speers most of the time...
No it sounds like he doesn't like them taking the show and deciding to completely change major parts of characters. We didn't want them to change so much. We wanted them to take the cartoon and make as much of it as possible with live action. Sokka and Katara weren't native American. They were based on Alaskan Inuit people. The look of the characters was actually pretty good. That's something they got right and WAY better than the movie. And the effects are pretty decent too. But changing so much about the characters was a bad move. That's why we're mad. They changed the characters too much@@ZolPsyko
@vincentmarcellino7183 Ian is Cherokee and Kiawentiio is Mohawk bro. Ian is mixed and Kia just has light skin. Also, like I said, the cartoon is right there. If you dont like the netflix show, ok, no biggie. We still have the cartoon. Its not a big deal.
@@ZolPsyko I think you both missed the point. I don’t really care about the colors of their skin and actually you managed to change my point of view for the fact that they changed the story, but changing the story for nothing of value is having no story at all. Aang and Katara went to the northern water tribe, because Katara couldn’t teach Aang water bending. They did all this way just for Pakku to tell Katara that he doesn’t teach her Even though she’s an excellent water bender. Pakku realizing Katara’s grandma is his love. He kept going with others to the southern water tribe to rebuild it. And telling Katara that she’s good enough to teach and how to be a water bender. What they did in the here was Aang even though he don’t know anything and didn’t even start learning water, bending must go to save the whole water tribe. He doesn’t know anything he’s nothing. He didn’t overcome anything he didn’t do anything. There is no risk there is no buildup. There is no nothing for this character to build.
@@ZolPsyko I think we can all agree the moment general Iroh told lieutenant Jee About what was their fate if it wasn’t for Zuko and him and his soldiers, appreciating that we felt good because it built the character of Zuko.
You nailed it, the joyful characters are nonexistent, yes it's not horrendous visually speaking. However, these writers and cast members make more money than the people tuning in, so at least it can do is sound intelligent.

I can say this though it’s better than the live action movie
my main problem is that live action remakes cant be either super faithful or evolve the original I think the new avatar show is a good remake and show but whats the point in spending millions of dollars on a show that just cant be the original or as good I didn't expect a masterpiece so Its fine but I just personally cant get invested into stuff like these remakes because of that fact the only live action remake I've watched is this avatar show and honestly its fine. pretty good actually but i honestly probably wont watch season 2
Some Atla fans need to touch grass 😭 the series was not bad, people expect shows to come perfect on their first season, but they must make mistakes so for season 2 they can learn about them

I wanted to see Bumi make jokes and still positive despite being an Old King who has seen the many horrors of the world (The jokes went to Roku btw)
They kept the Secret Tunnel backstory but decided to replace Kataraang for Sokkatara anyway, like I get Sibling Love exists, but they had every chance to just do the Sibling Love IN THE NORTH POLE
I can't complain about Azula because people will just turn it into "Fatshaming" even tho only trolls are calling her fat whereas the real complaints are "She doesn't look terrifyingly evil at first glance"
The visual effects and the visual world sure is beautiful tho, like it was stripped out of the cartoon, yet they didn't do the same for the story.
All these changes because they wanted to humanize Ozai and the Fire Nation more... (I heard somewhere that Azula and Mai actresses are related to the Director in some way so I guess it had to happen??? Not entirely sure)
WATCH THEM REMOVE THE BLIND JOKES BECAUSE "They can't 1:1 fiction into reality" LIKE THEY DIDN'T JUST 1:1 THE WORLD DESIGN OUT OF A CARTOON
Yes, they are really annoying sets of boomers
@@ZolPsyko That's fair
My beef is with the writing. I feel that this is unneeded. I hope it gets better but I’m soured this time. Best of luck to everyone involved.
Fair point. Could've been completely original
I thought the writing was fine. Avatar fans are harsh on any new Avatar content. They'll do the same thing when the animated movie comes out.
@@ZolPsyko actually real. the “this isn’t exactly like the original” spark in there brain will start to catch on fire with they goofy asses.

I grew up with the cartoon and had a LOT of fun watching the Netflix show. It definitely has a soul and can improve over seasons. People should also keep in mind this is a kids show, damnit.
The writing is so bad it made it unwatchable for me
The actors Are ok but they have only stupid dialog to work with
No biggie. The cartoon is right there.
@@surette2012 Go back to watching the cartoon and stop being elitist against people who enjoyed the live action also
@@BasedVegeta as I said: farm the good moments.
I guess in hindsight most people will age out of enjoying the Netflix adaption because, like it or not, it was patronizing and not ready to be sent out to production.
i mean its fine ig, but like damn, the gaang was so dull. heard theres season 2 coming so hope they fix it.
To address some of your points head on:
The only reason this show is able to be #1 in 73 countries is because the original cartoon was so great and talked about AND perhaps by virtue of the prior issue, turns out to be a monetary advantage: worldwide distributive appeal in live action.

The show is bad in a story telling perspective .
they took out all the meaning in it. The only this I liked was the story of Zuko were they explains in a good manner why he lost all that and why Jee and the others start to respect him.

No it sounds like he doesn't like them taking the show and deciding to completely change major parts of characters. We didn't want them to change so much. Aang and Katara went to the northern water tribe, because Katara couldn’t teach Aang water bending.
They did all this way just for Pakku to tell Katara that he doesn’t teach her
Even though she’s an excellent water bender.
