We might be old but we were in the good era listening and dancing to good music eating good food helping our parents and grandparents gardening and farming. Go to school and made good grades. Kids now will never know the real deal.

One of the best unknown bands of the 70s, I lived in LA, my neighbor was a disc jockey. I worked on his cars, and he gave me promo albums. Got these guys and was blown away. Thanks JIM

I wouldn't say they were unknown, they had 5 top 20 singles in the 70's and a couple of big albums. Their peak was very short though, maybe 3 -4 years so I guess 'forgotten' is probably more accurate.

The greatness of this group of studio musicians was only glimpsed by most people who only heard 'So Into You' on the FM. Their deeper catalog of songs of songs (from 1972 through 1981) holds six or seven gems that people have never heard - or will never hear now even on XM and the rest of those focused services. The age of FM (1970-2000) was a mixed bag for the boys from Doraville - 'Spooky' and 'SIY' made the cut, the rest were almost completely ignored. So if you're reading this and have not listened to the deeper cut ARS songs that range from lovely, to funny, to funky and several, to rock and rollin' open your mind and type in ARS. Enjoy this music while it's still with us...

I was the only outsider, with a cooler.
Ronnie Hammond and the rest of the band treated me like I was one of them. I don't remember who got my last beer but it was awesome!

Just good foot stomping music. Not someone who has 20 costume changes in their appearance. Really would rather have what we had then. Then what's now.

My dad is a young'un @ 64. He had that guy play with him. It was amazing! He was a phenomenal keyboardist..He wrote "spooky". period. It was such an honor for my dad to get to play with the originator of such a great tune! But ARS rocked it so hard!

From a site called Songfacts: This song was originally an instrumental (written) by the saxophone player Mike Shapiro, who recorded it as Mike Sharpe. J.R. Cobb, who was the band's lead guitarist, heard this song and added lyrics to it with their producer Buddy Buie. Cobb later formed the Atlanta Rhythm Section along with fellow band member Dean Daughtry and members of a band called The Candymen.

Amanita Versicula and Reb Short - James Cobb came along long after this song was recorded and did not write the lyrics.
      From Wikipedia:
"Spooky" was originally an instrumental song performed by saxophonist Mike Sharpe (Shapiro), written by Shapiro and Harry Middlebrooks, Jr., which first charted in 1967 hitting #57 on the US pop charts. Its best-known version was created by Ron Hirsch when he added lyrics centering on a "spooky little girl". In 1968, the vocal version of the song reached #3 in the U.S. (Billboard Hot 100) and #46 in the UK.
James Cobb (along with bandmate Dean Daughtry) later became part of the Atlanta Rhythm Section and re-recorded "Spooky" in 1979. ARS's version hit #17 in the US and #48 in the UK.

Saw them on Japan Jam 2 at Yokohama Stadium in 1980. I've been a huge fan since I heard SO INTO YOU from radio in the late 70s. Most Japanese wanted to see Cheap Trick in there but I really wanted see this SOUTHERN ROCK band. This totally sounds great!!! They brought me back bitter sweet memories a lot. Dave Heil, where r u now? Let me know. I know where Jake is. I couldn't find you on his FB. I'm gonna visit a friend of mine in Texas soon.
