I retired while at Ft Hood, Tx. My daughter had already made friends. So we didn’t wanna move back home, and have her start all over. We ended up taking her out of the public school system because the teachers were floating the kids through. They weren’t doing work in class, no homework, and no testing at all. So we put her in a private school in Temple, Tx. We now pay $1,800 a month just in tuition. If we include all the extra cost, it’s roughly $2,500-$3,000 a month. I had to go back to working in law enforcement just to be able to pay the bills, and get her a decent education. I’ve tried to talk my wife into homeschooling but she won’t do it. Great episode! Much love from Texas🤙

Thank you for the video gentlemen. Please keep the MARSOC content coming, people want to know what's going on with the Raiders! Warrant Officers sounds like a great idea because Enlisted Marines want to keep serving in high speed jobs, but as time goes by their bodies get older, they want more money to support their family, and more privileges to enjoy. MARSOC would also see higher retention rates as more Marines have a new way to serve as a Raider. They go to WOBC in Quantico with the regular Marine Corps, get the basic and infantry training, then go back to, say, MSOS for a MARSOC "Warrant Officer" Course before becoming a Team 2IC. Fantastic idea. Imagine how knowledgeable the MARSOC Regimental Gunner could be!
It's so nice to see how MARSOC has evolved...getting an MOS for officer and enlisted, having the ability to stay in MARSOC vice being forced to rotate back to the FMF after 5 years, reuniting with the Raider insignia and patch, getting their own chest device, having multiple advanced courses beyond entry level training, Raiders serving in joint and multi-national command billets worldwide, excelling at joint and international training, providing exercise RAVEN as a regularly reoccuring training opportunity for the conventional forces that need it the most, providing an opportunity for select conventional Marines to support MARSOC as a SOCs and CSS, and so on. Raiders have come far and the future looks good for them in my opinion.
    1. When will we see the return of the 4th Marine Raider Battalion? They could be the one reserve MARSOC component for Marines that want to slow down from the pace of active duty could choose- instead of losing them to 19th and 20th Group SF.
    2. MARSOC's biggest gift to the USMC, and a potentially foolproof way to prevent them from ever coming under risk of being disbanded, would be to give something tangible BACK to the USMC. There must be a way to placate conventional officers and sncos enough to where if they don't like the Raiders, they'll at least leave them the hell alone. Find a way to give those SOF skills that are so special they had to stand up an entirely separate command from the FMF and give those skills to the conventional Corps. A USMC "Commando Course for non Raider Marines may be the trick. Give some of the training taught at 1st phase of ITC to the regular guys. Maybe even throw in some events from A&S and the Recon and Scout/ Sniper Indocs too.

I’m a freshman in college now doing NROTC as a Marine option on scholarship. I grew up extremely similar to this guy, and hearing his story really makes me want to be able to reach out and contact him about some specific questions and various stuff regarding competitiveness for selection etc. I run track at my university aswell, and grew up in rural Missouri on a farm. I know that this is a long shot, but if anyone has his contact info I would greatly appreciate it. Absolute beast of a human.

Of the 6 infantry officers in my battalion that went to A&S (3 peer groups worth) 2 were selected. Of the two that were selected 1 was an top tier dude who was physical tough and mentally strong as well as humble and extremely intelligent. The other that was selected was a smart dude but cocky and IMO selfish. Those that weren’t selected 1) legit dude but old with 3 kids. likely would have struggled with optempo (Went recon and is extremely happy) 2) Extreme team player but to rigid and a little weird. 3) no common sense, low people skills, extremely intelligent. 4) I didn’t know too well but my buddies who did said he was a duck/selfish.
Unfortunately not all who want to go to A&S will get a seat. Sometimes it’s no fault of their own. Other times it is. Timing can certainly screw you. Other times your battalion Xo. And certainly you can screw yourself.
Don’t discount recon. Completely different mission set. But it can extend your platoon time if that’s what you enjoy.
      Good luck

Solid interview. I agree and support your decision sir. I believe time will prove you more right than you thought. The Corps lost a good man and that is the bigger issue inna “post” war time military. Its in the ebb times new young nuggets need solid leadership from senior enlisted and good “O’s”. Live well and enjoy your time every sun up and sun down with your family. 🇺🇸

Nick, take some advice and watch how often you either speak over the end of your guest’s sentences, or interject repeatedly, before they finish their thoughts. It’s constant. It often leads to the topic changing, without ever returning to the topic of discussion, before the interruption.

I wasnt an officer or a Raider but there us a lot of toxic leadership in the Marine Corps and that may be worse in the higher tier of the military. That being said, dont let that deter you, it may be the reason you dont do 20, but with that you meet so many people, make so many memories and learn so much. Enjoy the journey.
