If you need a new variable speed pulley, Speed Selector makes pulleys that replace the Reeves, Hi-Lo, TB Woods and Lovejoy pulleys that went out of business or got bought. Most are in stock or Speed Selector will custom make if needed. They have an actual engineering department; very helpful.
Excellent Video, Is the lathe a 5912? I am considering buying one with the same issue as your machine. Your video will make life easier in repairing the machine. Thank you for posting the video
Hey Tim, I need to make a video of the finished project. The seals in the master cylinder up top were bad. I have the raw vid, I just have to get around to making the video. Thanks for subbing!
Only because most people put break fluid or oil with detergent in the system. Man, there is a plaque right on the machine that tells you what to use. These are GREAT American made machines, but like a car, you need to know what you own. Good news, parts are available to fix this problem for less than $20 available from Clausing USA, simple seal kit. You can use a quality jack oil, if you don't then its broke.
Funny, I used hydraulic jack oil just like you say! I couldn't find the specific oil Clausing spec'd from 1960-whatever. I guess when people see a "master cylinder" the first thought is, put brake fluid in it.
@@lockbuilder I'm no genius... I wrecked a jack once with break fluid. Wised up. Mine wants a Texico product they don't make anymore. But, it's an easy fix if you mess up.
Thanks chris! I just rebuilt my master and slave on my clausing 5914.Your info was helpful I mentioned you in my vlog.
So glad it helped! I need to rebuild the slave on mine too. Where can I find your vlog?
@@lockbuilder Tom ROSS GTO will get you there

Thank you for that info! I really do like the lathe save for the whole Sheave drive thing. I think i'll go VFD at some point. Best!
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very nice lathe
Thanks for the sub!

It is a 5914. Great machines. I think you'll love it!
Great video! I used a grease fitting in the slave cylinder which has a built in check valve.
So glad it was useful!
Just curious, did you find the problem? Is there a video of further troubleshooting and how you fixed it?

Whatever happened to good old simple gear drives.
Amen brother.
Advantage of this system is you can change speed while turning
Man you're pretty smart when he goes to machining equipment the don't you know that AVE stands for Avenue!!
