    It all depends on the betting pattern. If you combine 1) A player who earns very little and might be open to temptation 2) An insignificant match that attracted heavy betting on an unexpected result and 3) A player who performed well below par to produce the unexpected result - well, then you have something that doesn't look good.

      Can't hand out bans on stuff that doesn't look good tho, a proper investigation needs to happen with proper evidence linking the player to any betting happening..... this could happen to anyone as a coincidence and they lose their livelihood and dreams because of it? I understand how these companies spot the fraudulent betting through patterns or overbetting on little things that don't usually get as heavily bet on but still need to have solid proof to show other than betting patterns for one match in my opinion. As for dropping 10 points in the average this can happen to any player especially when they know they are already beaten and won't proceed any further in the tournament. Once any irregularities are spotted then keep a closer eye on the individual player for a longer period of time as to gather more information rather than branding the player a cheat straight away over one or two legs. If the irregularities Continues over a period of time and you can show how the betting patters aline with big drop offs in performance compared to betting patterns with other players then you have something to go with but if this is only happened once its like saying a punter isn't allowed to get lucky and a player isn't allowed to slip up and certainly not at the same time. I also believe that the people who might take a punt on this match will be aware that he has nothing to play for and would have been more likely to put money on the opponent knowing she's female and wanting her to win

    They must have had something solid on him here. Against Ashton, he did suddenly drop around 10-15 points off of his prior consistent average and his shots at checkouts were embarrassingly bad. It would make you wonder how you'd suddenly go off by *that* much when in every other game he was comfortably around 80 or way above 80 averages. However that alone could be written off as a bad day at the office or the intimidation of playing a ladies player or both. The betting patterns must have sold it on the DRA alongside the sudden drop off a cliff in performance.
    Would just love more details. It's a shame we don't have something more concrete to go on.
    Difficult to say one way or another when all they've said was "it was suspicious and he was found to be in breach of the rules" and all he has said is "I didn't do it and they fabricated the outcome." I mean we don't know anything about what they apparently found to prove his guilt.

      The last match didn't mean anything as he already knew he was out. He didn't have anything to play for and played terribly, whether that was intentional or not was the question. The strange thing is the DRA can ban him without any concrete evidence, which they have non of, all they have is suspicions

    The MODUS series is fertile soil for match-fixing due to its model. I understand they need to take action against anyone where there's even a sniff of cheating to send out a warning to others. It's plausible that he just had a bad game but you have to put those bad scores in context and make a call.

  • @davidmarchant9386

    It's difficult one this he isn't a top player and would expect lots of loose darts. His averages was never great. We really need to look at his scores from previous matches. Darts is easy when it's going good but we all been there on a bad day and can't hit a barn door... maybe scrap the fine but keep the ban

      And if there's not enough evidence to fine him £600 then it's OK to ban him and stop him earning anything? How does that make sense? Even if he's only earning 16k a year it keeps him ticking over and able to keep chasing the dream, If anything it should be the other way around if any action is taken it should be a fine unless you can provide betting irregularities over a longer period of time that aline with big dips in form or links to the people making these bets etc you can't ban a guy over one or two legs of darts or even over a single match in which you already knew you weren't going any further in the tournament. Any player can drop 10 points in average from one game to the next in that instance. Definitely a suspect scenario but if something can happen naturally and you suspect foul play then you must be able to demonstrate how without any doubt it didn't happen naturally or you have no proof certainly not enough proof to ban someone in my opinion

    It’s not about the player, it’s betting patterns. As soon as big money is being put down on a certain outcome or result the bookies know! Go ask the punters who put money on him and ask them if they were paid out? I’ll bet diamonds they weren’t.

    • @jakecooper5855
      @jakecooper5855 10 місяців тому +1

      Why does Ashton matter? You could count on one hand the number of times both players are involved in the fix across all sports, except maybe for boxing.

    • @daddykornflakes
      @daddykornflakes 10 місяців тому

      There's no way a winner can be involved, especially when winning 4-0 because how is trying to win every leg deemed as cheating? It isn't, because that is the aim from the outset. Even if the bets were on 4-1, the better player usually gets the one leg they need then loses the remainder and has nothing to do with the opponent. It's happened in snooker many times where a player is fixed to lose, for example in the case of Peter Francisco in 1995 when he lost 10-2 to Jimmy White at the World Championship. He knew he could win 2 frames in a best of 19, so won them as soon as he could (he led 2-1) then lost the last 9. A score of 10-0 would have been seen as just a bit too suspicious.

  • @jakecooper5855
    @jakecooper5855 10 місяців тому

    The way he played is almost irrelevant, everyone can have a bad game. The guilty verdict will be based entirely on whether some large bets were placed on that exact outcome, which were entirely out of line with normal betting patterns. A person could ruin almost any lower players career if they wanted to by picking a random match and placing a 20-30k bet on a loss. If that player does lose, they will be under suspicion without having had anything to do with it. If someone had a real grudge or was vindictive as hell they may be prepared to do it.

    Presumably it all hinges on the IBIA's evidence of "suspicious betting". I'm not sure what sort of activity they'll be looking for, but I've no doubt that they've seen all this before and they're pretty confident something is fishy. I'm not accusing him of being guilty, but he certainly wouldn't be the first sports person to get into hot water over this sort of thing. Also, if there was anything dodgy going on, trying to pull a fast one using the Modus Super Series makes sense: it's not the PDC, so any would-be fraudsters might assume it would just disappear under the radar.

The betting companies use the IBIA "findings" to get out of paying out winnings and the IBIA keep all that membership fee money from the betting companies that keeps them going.

    1-00pm The thing about all this massive scope of “”Match Fixing” & dragging someone’s name through the mud , is the fact that there is even bookmakers allowed to tout odds on a simple Darts Game, where there’s betting there’s a scam!!, it’s nothing new by any means , I do agree that Mr. Main made a bit of a fool of himself when he stated that he can’t add up???, the very nature of a game of darts is the numbers on the board, it starts usually at 501 then whatever score you get with 3 darts is deducted from the 501, it’s not rocket science is it. At worst the man is a cheat if they can prove he’s “thrown” a game / match, if it’s not proven that without doubt he’s NOT lost on purpose then he’s Not Guilty it’s as simple as that, & going by his match averages he’s hardly Robin Hood is he???. I say again Any Sport that invites Betting Cash for financial gain is open to a scam somewhere along the line. 😮😮😮😮

However, it COULD be bad luck/coincidence so ban seems harsh. You don’t get punished for there being a suspicion of guilt, it needs to be proven IMO
