Selt should've been warned for ungentlemanly conduct. The referee was remiss in not having done so. Furthermore, Selt's been overly indulged in other matches for making inappropriate comments at various stages. Fines are the only way he'll keep his trap shut in future.

I hope he's OK too but reflects on this and finds his way to reacting in a more sportsmanlike manner in the arena, however frustrated he must feel privately. He's ranked about number 33 in the world, and with all his experience it was not fair on Zizins, who's about 17 and a rookie if a talented one. I think the referee should have warned him and been firm and resolute before it got too out of hand. I reckon the WST will take a dim view of Selt's conduct and haul him up to explain himself.

    • @raskulx1664

Completely agree! Watching that interview made me feel like he cane across poorly, like a cocky, self-interested whiner. This meltdown only reinforced my opinion, especially when you consider the underlying attitudes it suggests he holds. Having said that, I don’t know the guy personally so don’t want to completely condemn his character, but his personality and attitude seem disappointing.
I disagree that it’s time for him to stop playing, he’s still ranked 33 in the world, which is pretty high overall.

All I can say is sorry for Selts behaviour and I'm embarrassed as an English man that Selt acted like such a petulant spoiled child. The truth is that Selt is such a limited average player that he should be thankful that Barry Hearn has set up snooker in such a way that he's earned over a million pounds during his career. As I typed in another message, that there are so many tournaments now that often the best players drop out in order to take a break. This leaves room for the lesser players to make some money. Selt is probably crying over losing a couple of grand which that young Latvian lad would need more than him.

@@kennethtalbott2233 Anyone would swear that Selt has reached this top level where he's looking down over players from his throne. The guy is so average, he's got no talent so should be happy that he's earned over a million in this sport. He should be down on his hands and knees thanking Barry ahearne for the opportunity to play in countless tournaments today. That's why he's earned close to a million, because there's so many tournaments that the best players will pull out of some to leave scraps for the dogs from the masters table.
Shame on him for treating the young lad with such disrespect. He comes from a poor country yet Selt seems to deem himself an entitled spoiled brat.

That was probably the sound of him wrecking his cue at the end. Remember the Milkman chucking his across the floor in frustration at this year's World Championship? Fed up with the shape his career was in at the time,Graeme Dott stopped at a service station on the way back from losing in ranking event qualifiers in the early weeks of 2004,stood his cue against a wall and put his foot through it,breaking it in half. It was his intention,in the heat of the moment,to quit, but he didn't. Weeks later and with a new cue he fought all the way to the final of the World Championship for the first time. He lost that about 18-8 to Ronnie O'Sullivan but his career was reborn.

Exactly, Selt is acting like a child, he's a very limited average player who should count his lucky cares that he's amassed over one million pounds during his pathetic career.
There are so many tournaments these days that give players an opportunity to make money. If you want it, it's there so there was no need for this type of behaviour.
I guarantee you that he got fortunate at times in the pat where the other player had to take it on the chin. Just imagine what the average Joe could do with a million pounds, and that's sterling. That's one mullion 200 grand in euros. His house is paid off, he's got a couple of cars so he's set for life, and he should think about that before he embarrasses himself against a young lad from a very poor economy. What a selfish git he is.

@ can’t believe WST hasn’t responded to this going viral. No statement. Nothing !!
Banging & smashing things off camera. Shouting at a ref to shut up on camera. And no response from the board. He’s even playing other young guy tomorrow at 10am

Yeah, Selt is a desperate Snooker player and a very average one at that. He's earned around one million during his career, so he can count himself blessed having very little talent to be able to earn so much money. I'm sure his house is paid for and I know he has a couple of cars so he should be content with that. I think he got as far as no. 33 in the world which just tells you how bad some of these players are once you go past the top 25 players in the world.
I think he's got over 200 centuries in his career, and he should be fined for that type of reaction.
He's needs to have a good look at himself, and realize just how average he is as a player who's made a small fortune that should easily set him up for life if he's wise with his money.
I mean, only for Barry Hearn, players like Selt wouldn't be able to earn such a good living as he's created so many tournaments that often the best players will drop out of some to take a break.
It's easy money even if you're as average as Selt is in this day and age.

He shook the boys hand and said congratulations mate the meltdown came afterwards. Aye he was out of order for the strop but he’s trying to earn a living and support his family and just lost a qualifier n probably lost money as well. It’s not an excuse for his behaviour but he was obviously struggling mentally. Need to remember these guys aren’t robots n if your not winning your milkman is probably earning more with the way snooker has went with the banning of tobacco advertising. Struggles of life get on top of everyone n sometimes you need to cut them a wee bit of slack for not being the perfect gentleman sometimes. Good luck to the young man for qualifying hopefully another rising star in the making 💪

Facts: Selt has won £61,000 so far this season and pocketed £90,000 last season. Compared to most pro's - he's ranked 33 - he's doing very well indeed!

@ungarr I don't think that's a fair statement to judge someone's character from one incident where he lost control of his emotions, I'm sure he'll be embarrassed with the way he acted and was definitely out of order but let's not pretend we've not all let ourselves down when it comes to being a perfect gentleman or sportsperson at some point in our lives. I'm sure there's been times in life where you've let yourself down and possibly been embarrassed with the way youve acted but wouldn't like to be judged on this alone so I think it's best not to judge someone's character on one separate incident like this. Alex higgins for example great player. People's champ but an absolute pain in the backside when things weren't going his way. Was loved for his great snooker and for the emotion he showed but wasn't a great atmosphere for his appointments sometimes, ronnie has also been known to throw a few strops on and off the table but the point is these guys are not robots they have emotions n sometimes they get the better of them

Nah mate, for those of us of a certain age, remember when Alex Higgins thought he was it, he was fool and a cheat. I remember in a match with Thorburn where he tried to cheat, all round idiot. Selt acted badly, yeah but it's one occasion and everyone can be forgiven one time. We don't know what's going on, in his personal life and we all allowed an childish rant on occasion, as long as he doesn't do it again.

I don't agree with players holding their hands up after a fluke at all. Flukes are part of the game, they are part of any game, and no snooker match is decided on one single shot. What about all the other frames that were won without flukes? Bed-wetting, namby-pamby nonsense.
