    Atleast the fisheries officers were fairly lenient and respectful. At the end of the day there was no female or undersized crabs that were kept and the pots were marked albeit incorrectly. As for the cooking of live crabs clearly someone has it out for old tim tim the turtle. good on you tim for taking it on the chin. I've been fishing in QLD all my life and have never been pulled up by fisheries for anything, so seeing the process was in fact educational.

      So easy to do even with maps on your finder. At Port Stephens we have Marine Parks / Sanctuary Zones everywhere & unless you see the markers which could be on the land or water then you won’t know, they should be marked better for tourists.

    Mate, I take my hat off to you for making this episode to start with. The manner in which the fisheries officer conducted his interview and investigation is very professional, and more than fair. Accidents happen mate, and yourself and Brett, who started out to make a video that helped people crab more efficiently, turned out to be a ‘trollers’ target for bringing someone down. For the amount of good you do on your videos Tim, one lapse in judgement is never going to undermine that. Fisheries and Water Police have they’re jobs to do and without them it’d be a free for all for the illegal fishers etc, and the fact that the officer gave you the absolute minimum possible showed that he knew that it was not a case of deliberate, illegal practises with malice intended, but had to act, due to there being numerous complaints. Isn’t it sad though that people these days are just looking for something to bring someone down. Great video mate. 👌🏻😉

    • @AHPOutdoors
      @AHPOutdoors 2 роки тому +1

      Not professional at all. Idle threats of 8 charges if he doesn't accept the charges of 1 fine. Totally vexatious and extremely unprofessional. Blackmail is terrible and unconscionable.
      No wonder fishos are thick headed dummies.

    • @hodgiethebarefootfisherman8393
      @hodgiethebarefootfisherman8393 2 роки тому

      @@AHPOutdoors I have to disagree mate. I believe that the amount of good that Tim does was taken into consideration and the fact that some trivial minded individual has made an official complaint means that it had to be acted on by fisheries. In order to go to court the cost is from my understanding approximately $4,000.00, and if some one were to challenge the fisheries office, those costs have to be paid for by the defendant if they loose. Fisheries wouldn’t go to court without the required evidence to prosecute, in this case all documented. I believe this to be the reason that the fisheries officer explained that there would be more fines to answer to if it proceeded to court. It’s just the way it is I suppose. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no law enforcement officer, but this is my understanding of how it has worked for many years. It does seem to me that the fisheries officer showed his empathy for both Tim and Brett, and administered the minimum fines possible, considering that it was all on camera, and narrated by Timmy. Whilst it was in the scheme of things minor offences, they can accumulate to significant amounts of cash if administered the way the law spells it out. We all have our own opinion on topics like this, but I reckon it couldn’t have gone any better for Tim and Brett than it did. 😉🧐

    Heya TT , New to ya Vids and enjoy them muchly . Got a story 4 u regarding fisheries cops .
    In Cairns n get to set 3 crab pots occasionally . Like ya mate Brett I labled them with name n phone number .
    Bout 3 months ago got a call from fisheries who were at my pots telling me the new regulations that you gotta put an address labeled . She was sweet .
    When I picked pots up they were newly labeled with my address on them by the cops . Top n bottom . All 3 of them .
    Anyway on side note if you travelling on the water wear a life jacket . Drowning ain't fun . Done it once , just got lucky

  • @horacepinker6578
    @horacepinker6578 2 роки тому +5

    Timmy the poacher!
    I too was under the impression that you can set the amount of pots multiplied by the persons aboard. I'm allergic to crustaceans so I am highly sought after to come out crabbing and prawning lol (I do have my own pots as i like crabbing)
    Personally I don't like having an address on the pots as its a privacy concern to me, ie someone steals your pot and then they have an address of where they can find more fishing gear and no one home. I would prefer a registered fisheries ID number like the pros have.

    • @chats5957

    So...
    1. Tag your pots top and bottom with the users info, not the owner.
    2. 4 pots per person.
    3. If you're planning on putting out 8 pots for 2 people and you know the 2nd person can't go out to retrieve them, only set 4.
    On another note, they should have a river clean up day or week in each state where you can't set pots prior to that date so the locals can go out and pull up old abandoned pots with no fine. Like, you can't set pots from Monday, fishing club clean-up day is Wednesday, Thursday is back to business as usual, and Friday is a big crab crab cook up celebration at the club.

    Only had one run in with fisheries down here in Vic, and my licence was expired. (thought i'd bought a 3 year, not a 1 year)...... Treated them like normal ppl, owned up to my screw up and bought an online licence as soon as i had reception, so no fine came through. Biggest thing with any interaction with 'authority' (whether you believe in their powers or not) is Don't Be a Dick... Soon as you act like an A***hole, they are going to find any reason to fine you just because of your attitude.

    I have no issues with the fisheries officers, they are doing their job and doing it well with a lot of discretion. However the QLD ACT is ridiculous and should be amended. Yes the apparatus needs to be labelled top and bottom, but just because a guest in the boat throws or retrieves the apparatus should not mean you rename the apparatus. The apparatus should be named as the owner of the apparatus. In the event the owner of the apparatus is not in the boat, then yes the apparatus should be renamed.

    Years ago fishieres where all about educating the public on correct fishing practices and focused a lot on the commercial sector that made a bigger foot print in our sustainable fisheries, fining 2 blokes that promote sustainable fishing,clean waterways and catch and release seems a little harsh a warning would probably have been more than enough and would have refreshed you guys on the rules not like you had 10 undersize females in the boat.
    I studied hard and tried for years to get into fisheries, I’m glad I never did got the opportunity because I don’t think handing out fines is the way to educate the public on sustainable fishing.

    Incredible that viewers would dob you guys in for honest mistakes. Just disgraceful. You (and Fisheries) handled it well - the dobbers didn’t at all! Kudos for the honesty and teaching your viewers mate.

    What a low dog of an act to dob you in rather than just contact you directly.
    Very worrying also that under the new regulations a lot of the laws are “At the officers discretion” if you happen to get a fishery officer on a bad day you could lose your boat for not having a pot marked correctly..
    They should never have changed the laws from owners pots to users pots when marking names, this is really making it difficult.
    Let’s hope that in future common sense prevails.
    Good on you guys for being honest and upfront.

    The fisheries bloke was very fair and respectful as was timmy.
    This is great education
    The idea of cleaning up abandoned pots is great
    Shame there is too much law around it that does not allow this. Sometimes it comes down to who you know.
    Legend timmy 🤙

    I knew it was 4 pots per person however I did not know the address and name of each person like 4 each needed to be done per boatload. I thought it was the captains name as the boat operator on behalf of passengers. Good to know.

    That officer was gracious and well on song
    I’d love a section on this channel where Timmy can engage more with guys (officials) like that in explaining the rules..
    I’m a Saffa and there’s more rules in SA that you can poke a stick at but nothing gets enforced even if some petty numbass bust your chops..
    My plan is to go explore Aus with my family (5 kids and a beautiful missus) for 6 months and engage in some of the crabbing and fishing scene as it is something we as a family all love..
    This video was majorly educational for me in understanding the pitfalls if not done correctly..
    Timmy,
    If you ever read this it will be cool for guys like me if you can engage with that officer on other topics as well

    The only time fisheries ever snag someone doing the wrong thing is when they willingly walk in the front door. I spend a lot of time on the water in NSW and see some wild shit as far as breaches go, report it and nothing happens. Seems to be the same in QLD.
    What a bunch of sooks who called you in... cooking the crabs alive deadset. Sounds like some vego sooks with iron deficiency.
