- step by step guide on how to change the transfer case and differential fluid (oil) on an AWD (all wheel drive) TL Hyundai Tucson or QL Kia Sportage. This procedure will likely apply to other AWD models in the Hyundai/Kia family. If you've never done anything like this before this is the video for you.
From Saudi Arabia . This video was very helpful. Thank you very much.
My little Canadian heart is jealous of your nearly rust free undercarriage 😩😩😅
I live in Alberta, my GF’s 2009 Hyundai has 200k on it and its almost completely rust free, reason being i get it rust inhibited every fall before the snow falls.
Thanks Peter
Nice to have a decent video from an Aussie. Very helpful . Saved me hours of online searching.
You know, if you marked the plugs and housing BEFORE loosening them, you’d have a pretty good idea how tight to make them when reinstalling them.
Good idea I appreciate that comment!
Just change the transfer case fluid using this video. Once you drop the full shield everything is wide open and easily accessible. I found I added a lot more fluid than actually came out. To my surprise the 10 mm hex and the 24 mm drain bolt were actually only hand tight. I was surprised that there was no leakage. The car absolutely feels like it has more power and smoother acceleration. If you’re handy this is probably about as easy as it gets. I change the fluid at 41K. The gear oil was spotless. I did not do the rear differential at this time because I figured the oil would be just as clean as what was in the transfer case.
Change it. Alot easier than the front to due. Make sure to use a breaker bar
Thank you for showing this nice and easy way and clear explanation I thought I was gonna rip my head unlike the infinity that basically a spaceship with sensors but this was straight on easy thank you 🙏
Korean engineering, the old sonata’s used to have an external transmission filter like an oil filter. My 2010 Forte I could do the oil change and tranny fluid without even raising the vehicle up
Good video, Thanks. I just bought a 2024 Hyundai Tucson and appreciate the video!
Great videos, thanks. Look forward to a fuel filter change 👍
the front dif is much darker than the rear. good to change the front more often.
Nicely done. Great video.
Thank you for making this video. I'm about to do the same with mine.
good video,thanks
Loosen ya fill plug first...some wise mechanic advice right there :)
Helpful video. Now If only I could get the fill plug out, its pretty seized up. 6 point 24 mm socket and a 3 foot breaker bar and it still wouldn't budge.
Hi good video ., is this the same for a 2018 Tucson limited 1.6t
How long of a 1/2" drive extension did you use to loosen the fill access bolt?
how much fluid did you need for each? Is a whole 2.7L jug necessary?
Have you had any problems overfilling the differential? The service manual calls for 580ml +/- 50ml. The factory fill was 500ml. Filling it to the bottom of the fill hole was about 850ml.
I’ve had no issues filling it to the bottom of the fill hole.
Nice video, but how the hell did you fill that trans-axle transfer case??
Why do they use red thread ldocker on a drain plug. I went to my dealership for crush washers and was told there's none on drain plugs. There is luckily napa matched them up. Put a little blue thread locker on instead of red. Saved my self 400 dollars doing it my self thank you.
Hello could you suggest me a good oil for manual transmission in Kia Sportage 2019 model? It is 2wd. Thank you very much.
Is there a front diff also?
That's lubricated by the ATF so no need for 75W-90 GL-5 there
Great video. Got a 2017 Tucson AWD coming up on 70,000 miles. I haven’t done this service to it yet but want to. Is there any reason why I should have the dealership do it instead of me, aside from saving on the labor? I guess I’m asking because of maintaining the warranty. If there’s ever an issue, can they decline a warranty claim since I did it myself?
That would be your call to get the dealer to do it or DIY. It's not a hard job. Doing it yourself you save $ and you know it is done.
@@numbnutsAU Probably too late, but keep receipts and possibly make a video with your phone. It's unlikely you'll have a problem with these since you are changing the fluid.
Hi
Just bought Tucson
What do you recommend to change first oils for
Engine, Transmission, Transfer case and rear diff?
For me, on all my Hyundais, including our 2019 AWD Tucson, I do the first oil change at 3,000 miles. Then, every 5,000 miles thereafter. For transmission, I do a drain and fill every 30,000 miles. For diff and x-fer case also every 30,000 miles. Never had a problem doing this. Well over 200,000 miles on our Santa Fe following these change intervals.
@@toddzino58 Thanks Todd.
Should I put a drop of loctite on again when re-installing drain/fill bolts? What say you.
I haven't bothered with the loctite on mine. no harm in putting a bit on it if you are concerned with it coming loose - use the blue stuff that can be loosened with hand tools.
I am new to all of this, but could you figure out the torque spec by using a torque wrench when you initially loosen the plug?
No, that won't work as it could have thread locker on it from factory. You'd only be guessing if it broke loose at 40ft-lbs or 50 ft-lbs when you had ypur wrench set at 55 for instance.
It's usually around 30ft lbs.
How is it metal on metal if the shavings are caught on the magnet?
May i ask where did you get all the washers from? Thanks for video!
my Hyundai dealer was actually pretty useless at stocking the crush washers so I ended up buying an aluminium crush washer kit off ebay i.e. 450 aluminium crush washers of varying sizes for $20. e.g. www.ebay.com.au/itm/154537162838?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item23fb21f856:g:HswAAOSwlXddx2hQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACkPYe5NmHp%252B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsStEKTPzZMfQmny3knR97t0FjyFzZTq1aKnfrevC12TSh3zVP%252Fd3xxskXBBudIDJgVPKn6Ki4OPNEqy7w5MJUzTOFbiIwP%252Brui%252FiI4KVguO0upFJXbX0WPm4Qh6kRmlztgSlYGwXZoyrH086gsKLwmstmH%252BgLG%252FLAmBTCA4f3261v3bf1kqry1Ao0jbsuuXiy%252F1cwu5LOk3tkODqwvvpBejIfAU%252FI47HMN2MYsrWPEbmk73a1BO7Sn9VuyTYAoUyvC6p2T1H0%252Bxscp5tXepqFP1YGXgMMM%252B7Vrww0KnSfWIjrrHO8DjYyXgKodoHZnLgWbk%252BV5eMbPRCzfOiemo27naUgasOC42avFQaP9hsu7I7zhXgDNkddB08oRODPlkc0uRbFNYJt1OpA74l5I0prAYAKMmA2BlZ7EnVGSJJASF690RQQvnv%252BtEYZXK1onJ1XwRr2jVDAtI76g7IA9NTUYo%252FLiiyTPu9vuWJnPfbz%252BNRtGAYeqmQQ91WvGNir4fd6q0pnAtn%252FFsv7P%252BWYcgBPThpo6zk9uPeWCeEg1FC9t5aQGk8cQjFuDUacA8Y%252BD6EUZQXDGg2OQtMSKLnYS98jd1LbHRaNIXGLFiyhTZ27bC1uuN9IY9u%252BHe1doumEr5vS%252B4PtFf1YJQO19Hv%252F%252F4CxNhsJEfoJR1ZrIrikG98gye1DNHOLZ%252BdCl4f1zkqAuE0eukLUNADcFGbVegcG%252FhQ4Gf2x5fFnx5b58N4cFqA%252BvRzDk9QtM%252FVHf4hkWPjAgkYdQAUGpEKcDGmcJxBKnuhLcNpQCb1UxRFUaBuPkG7haxKQDqIwlhJf4PmB2K80n%252F0Gb%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524
@@numbnutsAU thanks! Very helpful!
I’m not sure if I’m paying attention or not. I have 4x4 pickup it has front and rear diff then a transfer case. Doses these AWD only have one diff and a transfer case? Please explain.
yep - in the Tucson the front diff is built into the transmission, so only one transfer case and one diff.
@@numbnutsAU @thebeddoctor4273 there's your answer
Great video , usefully thank you
I wonder if this is the same for the Sportage 2011/2012?
I am not sure but it could be likely.
crush washer size please.
That's 1 cool hoist
I would change them between 30-50,000 miles.

Diff/transaxle oil.

That oil was clean and did not need to be changed. Good vid however.
Yep, that was the second change that day - did a poor man's flush.
