I find it hilarious when the lack of power is constantly being banged on about. Sub 7 secs 0-60 is more than enough on today's restricted roads! Even the 1.5 is quick enough for most people when you take the incredible handling into account. I suppose there is always going to be punters who are either trying to hard to impress or are over compensating for other deficiencies! 😂

Yep, 100%. There's a lotta spreadsheet monsters out there that don't realise that unless you track your car which 90% of ppl don't, speed stats are largely irrelevant. Anything below 7 or 8 seconds is gonna feel quick

I have a 140i and all people want to know is how fast it is to 60mph.I bought it because it was reduced in price as new edition 1 series was in the showroom and I had heard that the B58 was a decent engine. Bought it new in 2019 and have just done 8,000 miles only ever putting it into sport a couple of times and never in sport plus. Perfectly happy with the car but have no intentions of pushing it to it’s limit.Quite happy going along at the speed limit .Like you I never understand why we need excessive power unless on a race track.

The steering wheel has been adjustable for reach sinds the introduction of the ND2 model(the ones with the backup camera in the middle of the bumper as standard equipment) so might try pulling harder next time you are in one😉.

The folding hard roof is NOT metal. It's plastic composite for weight saving. The steering wheel DOES adjust for reach as well as height. Mine does, anyway (2021 ND2). Otherwise, you capture its character very well.
    I'm on my 3rd - all purchased new. A Mk2 (bought 2004 traded in 2007), a Mk3 foldy hard top (2007 to 2021), and my present 2021 ND2.
The last is the best, apart from the steering rack. The hydraulic NC rack is more 'talkative' than the electric ND rack - but not by much. The ND one is still excellent.
I didn't go for the foldy hard roof ND as I don't like the looks, up or down, and when down, it's not an open car, it's a mere targa top. And that ND soft top is such a delightfully easy thing to lower and raise!

Tried them all and the 1.5 is the sweet spot driver's car the 2.0 is a little firm the 1.5 feels light and more engaging to drive on the road
The 2.0 just feels heavier ..
You'd never know the difference until you drive both back to back

"Folk overfamiliar with the offerings of Colonel Saunders" - absolute classic! Fantastic review as always - could see the suppressed smile - guessing this car just as that effect.

This car defines Mazda and roadster culture. I hope it’s here to stay for many more years. MG could’ve been this, but unfortunately the Chinese got them. And look at how after all these years, the Roadster still got its smile. Oh, and I forgot the newer Fiat Spider was based on this too.

The Mazda MX-5 is known for its compact size, and fitting for taller individuals can sometimes be a challenge. However, it's best to try it out in person and see how comfortable it is for you 👍

I can’t imagine changing gears or fiddling with the infotainment system with my non-dominant left hand! Have at me Brits…😂

Black wheels, black mirror caps, black A pillars, black hood, yet they still retain the chrome, one or the other not both.

The car looks brilliant, if the chrome badges bother you, they can be easily swapped out for available blacked out examples.
