This should be obvious, but this video was completed right before the announcement that it's being canceled outright after only a few days, something I don't think anyone foresaw, even people who thought the game would eventually fail.
Leaks reveal the cancellation of an Infamous/Prototype crossover in 2016 was due to Concord New documents reveal how the long awaited sequel was scrapped in favor of developing Sony's new hero shooter We lost.... a good game. For a hunk of trash. Why all companies said "every game must be live service" is beyond me. Anytime i read battlepass. I read "the game is terrible" and 99% of the time it is. Or just copies fortnite. Theres already market cap for live service games. No new live service that hits market. Is gonna do better than what exists. So. Instead of trying to outdo. Companies need to go back to focusing on making good games. Not live service games. Classic games theyre known for. Not new games plagued with bs
@@vegeta002 I had no idea what a Dustborn was until I looked it up just now and I have a hot take: I think the character designs in that game are still better than Concord. Like, they're very basic and bare-bones, but at least they have some elements of style? And personality? And they actually feel like they're distinct characters with their own identities??? Which is more than I can say for Concord, I'll tell you that much. Sure, Dustborn still looks pretty generic in the grand scheme of things, but at least there was _effort_ involved.
The character designs aren't the problem, it's the characters itself. T he protagonist is sp unlikeable plus it's woke. Like the game tesches you skills like cancelling someone I am not joking. @halfmettlealchemist8076
Once I told my buddies this they couldnt unsee it.... That isnt a yellow robot... Thats the scream canisters from monsters inc lmfao, I can't unsee it now
The Robot character to me was just BEGGING to have a skin that involved spray paint and street art on him, he's so rotund and bulky with a whole lot of nothing on him.
Funny enough, there is a skin that features exactly this. But it’s only available to those who buy the deluxe edition, which is $20 USD more expensive.
@@sethyjeffries Because of course it is. Clearly making the cast bland and uninteresting so you can sell slightly more intriguing looks for the price of an entire expansion is a brilliant business move that will let your game prosper.
I think a garbage can robot would be a good design if it healed and reloaded with garbage. Like, it sucks up destructible terrain debris and instead of fighting over the healing kit spots, this player would instead look for the dumpster. It would give a more specialized role and playstyle while still keeping the character's mechanics. This took me like five minutes to conceive. They couldn't have made Garbage Can better in two presidential terms?
Balan Wonderworld had a similar issue but reverse. Balan who's on the cover of the box art. Who's design looks PHENOMENAL and a character who oozes with so much personality. "I am interested in purchasing this game cause I wanna control this character and see the cool stuff he can do." Guess what? You NEVER control Balan. He is a background character. In 👏his👏 own👏 game!👏
@@Shadowofawolf had the literal inverse about situation when it came to the story though. One of concords main novelties was a weekly in game cinematic about lore/world building/story, while in Balans you straight up had to buy the novel and read that before playing the game to understand anything. Both of these were terrible.
I think you technically CAN play as Balan when you equip his power but... to get it you have to beat the game like 3 times over and by that point you have no reason to want to play him (or the game in general) anymore. lol
I can't even say it was the suits, because actual Concord developers took to raging on Twitter because people didn't like the designs and responded to any kind of criticism as "Talentless freaks" followed by hiding the tweets of everyone who responded to them unless they paid them $8. I think they would've called *you* all kinds of things for this video.
Exactly this. I was disappointed to see Kink so callously dismiss it when someone brought up how there was a toxic work culture where political ideologues basically bullied others into submission and engaged in cult-like behaviors like insisting on calling oneself and being called specific sobriquets like "The Professor".
@@sqentontheslime1967 It happened a good bit more but not by a large amount. It also gets worse - there WERE NO SUITS DOING ANY MEDDLING, Sony bought the studio last year and greenlit EVERYTHING, they WANTED this game as it was, awful designs and all.
@@Ballade90It goes to show how the problems with this game were rooted in every level of its development and production - everyone important is out of touch, egotistic, and drunk on their own hype that they refused any chance to consider that maybe, _juuuust maaaaybe_ something is wrong here.
I like how they went for the “hot girl with a featureless helmet” design but because the bar was so low they didn’t even make the girl hot so the design just ends up being pointless
Why only go half way? If they're gonna give her weird/pathetic skintight armor at least give us a little sex appeal, but we got the worst of both worlds.
The character design for concord is so bad that it gave her psychic damage and killed the game itself only a day or two after this was streamed. Insane
The character design killed the game Not the fact it have nothing else to propose than any others random game on an oversaturated market I'm sure this have nothing to see with the failure and the problem is only the woke. Spoiler alert taking the exact same code and changing the skin would lead to the exact same result because that's the true core of the problem: nothing to propose in the most oversaturated market would only lead to failure.
@vayalond7203 Whilst it's true the game would probably have still flopped, it wouldn't have flopped THIS badly, if it had good character designs I could honestly see it getting very big day one numbers and then it dwindles into nothingness as they just see a "technically solid but bland" game and the game dies quickly because it has no player retention and quickly gets forgotten. But with this turn of events, this game will truly live on in the memories like the Morbius of games it truly is. We just need to gaslight Sony into releasing a second time
@@vayalond7203if the character design were good. It would have gave the game a chance and would have invited people who were looking for something new it. It would have been hype for a couple months maybe then died down to only a few dedicated people. Thats if the gameplay is similar to overwatch. It wouldn’t have made big bucks but it could have been a solid money maker as it would probably made fans, and stolen some overwatch fans as I know people are slowly hating that game. But character design and tone/aura (not tik tok lingo) is what gives game its lure to an audience. Without that they, which they didn’t have. They were doomed to fail hella fast. If they had it, they would have had a chance at succeeding because even if this is a over saturated genre there still would have been fans of the game. Thats is if the gameplay was good enough 🤷🏾♂️. I have no clue because the characters were so bad mfs didn’t care how good the game play is.
As one of the few people who did, in fact, play Concord on release and was very active in the game’s official Discord voicing my criticisms about the gameplay (one suggestion of which did actually make it into the game, weird flex I know), I enjoyed the novelty of the game in spite of the characters, not because of them. I thought they were bland at best, but as someone who’s not a designer of any kind I didn’t understand why I and the overwhelming majority of gamers felt this way until I watched videos from Sungrand Studios and this video here, which helped broaden my understanding of the issues at hand. These videos make me realize how much I took good character design for granted, not just because I never learned any of it until recently (though that is obviously very important) but also because I’ve never seen characters like Concord that fail so many of the fundamentals so spectacularly, like silhouettes, shape language, color schemes, tonal values, and the like. Sure I have beef with a number of Genshin character designs but at least HoYo can’t possibly screw up anything more than the hair and clothes they give to characters due to their usage of the same handful of models. Concord somehow makes their mocapped, hyper-realistic models look more unnatural than most of Genshin’s purely by giving them boring and nonsensical clothes and making them do dances and fidgets that no one does (except maybe me admittedly but I have the excuse that I’m heavily neurodivergent). The actual shooting mechanics of the game are more solid than I think people give it credit for, but that’s currently the only redeeming quality of the game. There are other fundamental game mechanics that are underbaked at best like the crew system, the story has some interesting world building but is otherwise unremarkable, and as Sungrand Studios and Lilyggoth have stated, the characters need a complete overhaul as well. So it really isn’t much of a surprise to anyone that the game is getting taken down in a few days. Looking forward to the Secret Level episode though! If they’ll even keep it in after this debacle. Oh, one other thing I almost forgot to mention. I don’t entirely buy the narrative that the suits were to blame for the blandness. Firewalk was not purchased by Sony until halfway through its development. That means that they had four years to design the game before they lost their independence. With how generic the personality of the characters are, and how visually unappealing many of the maps are as well, and the lack of more than one or two new and interesting mechanics for this genre, I can’t bring myself to believe that denial of talent was a bigger issue than a lack of talent, as harsh as that sounds. Top to bottom the only thing Concord provides is novelty and a passable understanding of how to make shooting fun, that’s it. Everything else is largely “sauceless”.
From what everyone has told Concord as a game does amazing, good gameplay and all of that But that doesn't keep a game alive Its gives nothing What keep live service games alive its people having interest in other stuff that isn't the game itself If Concord its unable to make artist make fanart, I find really hard for it to stay alive, because I have a feeling people only will remember Concord for how little it lasted and the fastest speedrun to shutdown yet (more than the recent Platinum Games release under Square Enix, not referring to Nier Replicant, but their take on a multiplayer type of game that was so boring as this)
@@xXSoulGeoXx Yeah the thing is we're in an environment where decent shooting mechanics are the norm in the genre, at least as far as most people are concerned, so saying that it succeeds at that isn't really saying as much and definitely isnt going to sell games. From what I heard mechanically the things that differentiate it are actually not very fun or at the very least dont make the game more fun than it would be without ( like the aforementioned crew system and such) so Concord doesnt really have much to stand on on any front.
I'll be honest, the character design gives off the feeling of 3 different people told to make a design for a character based on vague descriptions, and a 4th person smashing elements of all 3 designs into a single character.
The problem with those Design is that most of them look like Warframe Enemies NPCs. You do not want to play a generic mass produced enemy, you want to play a character. That also why this game will be forgotten 2 years from now remenbered only as a Failure . I genuialy feel pain for those who had to models those characters
Calling these designs Warframe enemies is an insult to Warframe, even their trash enemies and NPCs are far weirder than these nothing guys. The Grineer are have much more interesting lumpy shapes and are ugly in a cool weird way instead of a boring way, and the Corpus have way more techno organic body horror with their camera headed wage slaves and alien space robot cyborgs.
@doragonzx Ironically, there are ways to make playing as generic mobs work. Look at the Blue Archive character Ichika. Her design is based on a generic mob, and said mobs assist her in her special attack. She is basically an upgraded mob. Her design is nothing noteworthy but still quite charming.
@@digitalyoutuber154its not quite the same but this made me think of Nier Automata when 9S hacks into a machine and pilots it, particularly in the robot coliseum. The basic machines are super round and weird looking, but the vast majority have pretty interesting designs despite most not being that crazy. And they are super fun to play around with.
@@digitalyoutuber154 And then they gave us close looks at the regular mobs and now they're as well liked as some actual playable characters. Simple, but distinct and cute.
400,000,000 Dollars. 200,000,000 of which over the last 18 months of development. A culture of Toxic Positivity were no one was allowed to point out flaws in the game. Devs bragging about how good this game was going to be. Sony believing this would be the next Star Wars Made about 1,000,000 before they refunded the game.
That’s even worse then the suits, no wonder the game was trash, you need someone to point out the flaws so you can iron them out be it in making games or life in general, toxic positivity stops you from improving
These character design review videos have been pretty fun, hope to see more in the future someday! And yeah, I feel super bad for the concept artists behind this game, you can tell that they were just given absolutely nothing to work with here at all. Like, the art direction for this game was probably just "off-brand Borderlands" and that was it. Absolutely sauceless game
@@sharzinlalebazri5673 I quit Twitter a few weeks back so I’m blissfully ignorant of anything you’re saying. Some other people in this comment section have been saying that the project lead on this game is kind of a d-bag, though, so I think I understand what you mean. If anything, my sympathy for the concept artists has only deepened with this new information. This manager seems like the kind of person who would take credit for everything their team did (but only after sanitizing the original designs to oblivion) and then get mad when other people hate it because “how dare they dislike _my_ idea? I’m smarter than all of you!” Completely ignoring all the hard work everyone else on the team did which they’re taking credit for. Again, I have no evidence or context for this, but that seems like the most plausible option to me.
@@tonypeppermint5329 The drawings of Samus, Asuka and Rei were made by one of the lead designers and look like literal planks of wood with the same color scheme.
29:33 yeah I was surprised too when I saw that Ivy had the most spicy art made of her out of everyone in deadlock, when Vindicta is barefoot, but I was not disappointed.
Never heard of Concord before. When I saw it trending on Twitter, I thought they misspelled Concordia from the upcoming Mario & Luigi game. Never figured it was a game until a video of Arlo popped up on my UA-cam feed. Edit: 2:03 THAT'S LITERALLY MECHANICA'S MECH SUIT FROM ARMS. WHY ARE THEY RIPPING OFF ARMS IN (what I think is) AN OVERWATCH RIPOFF?!
It buffles me when the Devs called people _"talent-less"_ while they made the most uninspired soulless Character designs. You'll never see anyone would make a fanarts out of this or even Cosplayers that would like to Cosplay anyone from these characters.
She's an artist so I guess she sympathized more with the designer but the suits can only have so much power over the character. The devs were aiming for this from the starts, they are all over Twitter defending these characters and raging at criticism. Through their personal page you can see their art portfolio and it's similar to this.

11:33 What's more annoying is that before this game was shut down, they dev released some lore saying that this character is canonically transgender. Talk about bad timing but also the saying "Go woke, go broke" applies.
20:31 it's giving me the vibe of, "AND SOMEONE SHOULD PUT YOU IN A BOX, FLOATING DOWN THE RIVER GRANDMA!" Vibes, like this is the background extra plankton roasts before moving on with the episode.
Shes trying so hard to not blame the artists but seeing all their comments and the comments from the art director i can tell you there were a lot of bad artists tied to this thing.
I mean all of the characters in this game looks so bad to the point where you doubt how could the suits have even approved it. I dont even think the suits where even involved in the making of this game.
The concept artist and designers were in on this. Literally. If you see their past work in their art station profile, you can see the patient zero of their art style going way back. It’s not just the suits. The entire studio is in cahoots on this. Heck, they call their critics “talentless freaks”.
I can understand if a few characters looked ugly but if all the characters look this bad then i am pretty sure its not the suits fault, i have seen the tweets made by the ex dev and artists its clear to an extend that the art direction truly failed.
Concord characters in a nutshell: - Water Weight Bastion. - Space Marine Trainee. - Tupperware from South Park. - Hellboy the Mad Titan the Destroyer. - Thugnificent cosplaying Eggman. - Na’vi from Walmart at 2am. - Fem Doomguy. - Sindel, just Sindel. - “How do you do fellow kids?” - Yondu + Starlord. - The only decent character design. - D’Vorah after the D’Vorce. - C-3P No. - Mei… Meison. - Soldier 75. - I don’t even have a clever joke. He’s just a rectangle. He has about as much dimension as a 4x2 LEGO brick.
36:30 I love the analogy LMAO To me, he's like the average looking office worker who got invited to the team building, inter-office lazer tag tourney and took it way too seriously by bringing his own gear to the game. (And I'm sure my head canon story I just gave him is much more interesting than his nothing burger personality in this game).
And after this she proceeded to make unholy noises to power wash simulator that shouldn’t be heard if you want to keep your sanity (or the respect of anyone in the proximity)
God I so dearly want to see what the concept art for this game was. I want to see just what the artists' OG vision was before it was sanded down by management who don't know what a jump button is.
The one defense I'll give Concord is that it played, across my short time pre-and Post release it played well, at least. Along with the character kits that although had completly no theme, style, or proper conecrion with the character designs, atleast was interesting in a vacuum, a few of which i would like to see taken by other hero shooters. Lastly it WAS SUPPOSEDLY, gonna have am actual story or at the least try too which compared to most of its competition (live service character shooters) having either none i.e. gigantic and paladins or having the most confusingly told and convoluted story i.e. apex, and or even worse, having an interesting stroy yet not doing anything with it and telling It horribly, i.e. overwatch and valorant
Not sure if Kinkymation is aware but, The game Director and other Key Staff at Firehawk Studios went all out on the "Modern Audience" approach so that is how we got these designs in the first place EDIT: even though i feel like it is a waste of time to correct it, i screwed up the studio name. The name is actually Firewalk Studios
4:55 Emari doesn't even look like a big woman. She looks like she dressed up for hockey and football but can't decide which sport to choose. Hell even the chat pointed it out.

It is nice that they keep on being sad for the devs and concept artists, but many of them who have made comments seem pretty complicit in that they are very proud of these things they have made. So don't be sad for them, be mad at the suits and the devs.
I don't know if this is the best place for it, but I just want to pay my respects for NHentai which has sadly been sued and taken down by an US company, meaning over 500 thousand works will go down with it, many possibly not being available anywhere else. Truly a sad day for weebs everywhere
35:05 As a fat guy, that character is even offensive to me. Like, at least give it a beer gut if you're going for a fat person, we ain't all Cartmans. And add SOMETHING to make it easier to tell genders on the blobs, even if it's something small like eye shadow for women and a 5 o' clock shadow for the men. Really looked like the suits were so afraid of misgendering ANYONE they decided to remove ALL genders.
I was surprised it was a man Because there's nothing that tells you otherwise The haircut tells you another thing, and being Concord, I though they were going for a more round women compared to Mei
Same game putting pronouns on the character select for the start of the match/round, btw. Maybe that's why they did it, because telling gender might be too hard at a glance?
Agreed. Just look at Thor in God of War Ragnarok. Absolutely amazing character design. They were going for “big intimidating guy” and they knocked it out of the park.
25:24 You reminded me of something that happened to my father. He wanted to actually watch the Star Wars Holiday Special, just to see how bad it was. It was 97 minutes. He wanted 2 hours of his life back.
It's just like Mordecai from Regular Show once (somewhat) said: When you try so hard to not hurt someone's feelings, you end up hurting everyone instead
I saw THREE designs I actually kind of liked: the beekeeper-esque skin, the kinda cyberpunk medieval princess dress at about 29:00, and the masked mushroom person at about 32:00. And NONE of those would I give an actual character to; those are background NPCs at best. And even those have elements that ruin them, especially the weird tubing that looks like guts on the first.
12:03 She’s an assassin character? I literally never would have guessed. Took forever for me to notice the two daggers in her hands. She looks more like the “shoot lightning” type.
The trashcan was obviously inspired by stacked roombas doing the shorties pretending to be a tall person with longcoat, and it is a vacuum cleaner robot with looks of background NPC.
I dont believe the narrative that corpos are what made the character designs so bad. Corpos set this game up for failure but a lot of the blame is on the devs who made it. Sony liked this game so much that they bought the entire studio apparently. That was Sony's bad judgement. But why would corpos see the success of Overwatch and Valorant and then explicitly tell these devs to have boring, safe character designs. If anything they would tell them to just copy Overwatch. No this game was something the devs believed in and it was a miscalculation.
8:15 Not gonna lie, that is a freaking BANGER of an idea. I would totally be down to play as some funny tv head guy, running and jumping and shit. Some robot character with a massive crt looking tv for a head, but the tv displays emotions and funny messages during gameplay and cutscenes. Freaking sign me up, I could totally see that being an awesome side character for some big team fighter fps, I boutta lock that design concept away in my vault in case of emergencies in the future.
24:42 Not only that, ever since I saw this character in the game trailer I always wondered HOW he would take his vest off without it being a detriment to himself. If I was a humanoid with spiky arms, WHY would I wear a vest like that that goes against my alien type physiology and be such a bitch to get off? What's the purpose? For human sensibilities? For fashion? If that's the case, they failed miserably because no one looks good (alien or human) in a airline flotation device, either.
A few of them gave a hint of vibe I wish they leaned harder into. The second black girl was almost a sniper, and off-brand TF2 spy could've been fixed. The best was that fire witch lady from the trailer. Not her base design, but the last couple costumes that leaned into ball gowns. Also there was the extra art boyfriendmation showed of 80s lady looking like a gangster. That. YES! More of that!
It feels like each charactet HAD a design, then the Corporate suits were like "Nah, make the black woman more bland, make it all look like the same one person"
I understand you supporting the artists but I really don't think so. Eight years into making a game and this is what the characters look like then its clear that to an extend that the art direction failed in its duty. I mean i dont even think that the suits would have approved these designs.
@@vicodin_007 They really just gotta let loose on Afro-Futurism. Every design for black characters is just either "White person but black" or "Killmonger hair with wack ass outfit". Like... I think a lot of African stuff can be used for black characters without the bland color swap.
Another thing that's very visibly dragging down all the designs and character presentation is (allegedly) Sony's insistence on FULL-BODY-MOCAPS. That's why you got the white woman dance and everyone just making awkward standing poses! No adjustment to any movements, no exaggeration, no stylized motorics. Just. Regular. Humans. Moving. Awkwardly.
Exaggerated and stylized movement is possible with mocap too. The channel @SAKANA-cg6or has examples of that. I think one of them is about idle animations. Game Science did mocap of cats for Black Myth: Wukong :P
I agree with what you said about the gaming industry eating itself. Games need to sell more and make more money than they ever have had to before 1 million copies sold isn't as good as it once was anymore. Racket and Clank Rift apart sold 300k on steam, and they claimed that it didn't sell that well.
These are so under designed they feel like staring at drying paint. At least in the case of overdesigned characters you can see what the plan was and where it went overboard. Here it’s like they made one character’s rough sketch and the suits told them that was as far as they were allowed to go
As someone who loves to draw as a hobby, I think what urks me about the character designs is that they tried to go for a realistic look with the characters but tried to combine that with color palettes that would be better suited for something more stylized. The result is something that lands in the uncanny valley in terms of art direction.
1-Off: the one character that would have actually benefitted from a more blocky design. Emari: Gives "Overprepared for combat and is now HEAVILY regretting it" Vibes. Daveers: Gives me "Playing Pretend". Like I GUARANTEE you she hand made that helmet and her "armor" is PVC and cardboard. Star Child: Either Lose the Hair, Change the skin tone, or SEND IT BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. Extra points if you do ALL THREE AT ONCE Bazz: Honestly...lose the Jacket and the glasses and give her some long dreadlocks and we'd actually be moving in a positive direction. It-Z: "We have Fifth Element at home." Meanwhile, the Fifth Element you have at home: Roka: Well...at least I know where Emari's Helmet went... Duchess: The name is in following with the design of the character...and that is NOT a compliment in this case. Vale: Okay, I'm starting to notice something...WHY the HELL does everyone's clothing look like they just grabbed it out of their "I don't care if this gets messy" pile? Lennox: Lose the Life Preserver jacket and give this man a duster. Yes, he'd look alot like Yondu but at least, that way, it'd be mimicking a good character design. Haymar: The Closest we are getting to actual effort put into the design...and that is saying something. Lark: To quote a friend: "I am a Monster Fucker and even I don't want to fuck that." Kyps: "We have iRobot at home." Meanwhile, the iRobot you have at home: Daw: This gives "Man in Basement" vibes. Like he needed a job for his parents to get off his back and just threw this on from a second hand cardboard box. Teo: How do you take a soldier aesthetic...and make it lame? That should be impossible! Jabali: Another instance of so close, yet COMPLETELY missing the mark at the last second
I haven't really seen anyone say that some of these character designs having potential to be good, I am now wanting to see artists take these character designs and try to fix them and make them actually appealing.
Just like with Starfield, sometimes the juice is not worth the squeeze. Modders gave up on that game because it would have taken them too much to make it good. The same thing is likely how Concord will go. There's just not enough there for the creative juices to start roiling.
Replace "suits" with "management" and the video starts making sense In fact, this is a clear cut case of management and project heads not following the original ideas the teams had and changing shit over and over again.
"I hate how genderless they all are" right into the genderless character. The timing of that was pretty funny. Also, it definitely sucks that the game got headshot like that, here's hoping the devs, designers, artists, and team get to work on something new.
12:33 that's exactly it, a DEI game can't define people without "being offensive" its all amorphous blobs of body types hence why so much is so generic the problems of this studio is deeply ingrained inside it not just higher ups, its an echo chamber company
I wouldn’t give the devs too much credit. It came out recently that years ago when they had an alpha for this game it was on such a bad state that Sony payed another $200million to make the game playable.
Always enjoy lily reviewing designs. Also I know it’s not happening much in this video but when she gets excited/“ooo that’s sexy mama” over a character. Why I loved the league tier lists so much
The funniest name I have seen for the yellow robot was 'Walking Septic Tank.' When I first saw that, I was like damn, the robot did nothing to deserve that but its hilarious! 🤣
You know learning that there was a culture with the developers of the game that was centered around toxic positivity… it makes sense now why they did what they did.
I genuinely love Concord. I love that Concord is going to scare these assholes into actually trying. When are we getting another golden age of art, it feels like it's been decades.
I think there were only 25000 people that even knew this was coming out, because every time they showed it off during a live show it was so generic it immediately left everyone's minds once it left the screen. And all of those 25000 people didn't even try to buy it, they just woke up one day with it in their games library and with $40 missing from their bank accounts.
Gonna copy paste my own comment from this stream: Garbage bin robot: The design felt incomplete, and the arms felt wrong, the legs felt REALLY WRONG. Like they saw some good designs for the robot arms and legs and went full contrarian and pick the less visually interesting design. Also your idea to make more body variety for the robot actually make it way better. Imagine if this robot actually have modules so you can add or remove stuff to its body. People will ate it up. Green female Buzz Lightyear with no wings: The reason they don't show her body because they're afraid to offend people with big body but no muscles. Also they run on the logic "Real soldier wear armor all the time" when in hero shooter they have plot armor to protect their exposed body. also the little red flag felt like that silly propeller hat. Not flattering, completely stupid, also lol literal red flag. Orange jumpsuit lady with tupperware on her head: I think this is the worst design. Like this lady love a tupperware container so much she put it on her head as a helmet and love to knock on it to show how hard it is. Also it looks like she stole some cow intestines from nearby sausage factory and stick it on her body. The color choice is like I said before, the designer is a massive contrarian so he pick the worst colours because no one like em. Big blue..... guy (thing?)..... with red head (just head that's red all over): This remind me of that Stormwatch comic book character design but Fuji look way more interesting than.... this..... blah. Guardian of the Galaxy reject: He's like an alien construction worker accidentally wandering into the game and too polite to say no. Grey robe and clearly a lady: She's like this probably going to be an interesting character but told to wear an NPC clothing and then got forgotten. Also I agree with Kinkymation, the shoes just awful. Yellow alien with basket with holes on his head: They're trying to make an alien but it's still too humanoid. They just bend his knees back a little bit. Robot(?) Woman(?) : "I(?) Don't(?) know(?) what(what) I(?) can't(?) @@sethyjeffries Because of course it is. Clearly making the cast bland and uninteresting so you can sell slightly more intriguing looks for the price of an entire expansion is a brilliant business move that will let your game prosper.
It does look like a humanoid pile of roombas, as background NPC which cares not what happens around it and get tagged by some street artist

I can't even say it was the suits, because actual Concord developers took to raging on Twitter because people didn't like the designs and responded to any kind of criticism as "Talentless freaks" followed by hiding the tweets of everyone who responded to them unless they paid them $8.

Why only go half way? If they're gonna give her weird/pathetic skintight armor at least give us a little sex appeal, but we got the worst of both worlds.
Right? Nothing in the design actually takes advantage of it OR indicates who this person is and what they do.

Not the fact it have nothing else to propose than any others random game on an oversaturated market I'm sure this have nothing to see with the failure and the problem is only the woke.
From what everyone has told
Concord as a game does amazing, good gameplay and all of that
But that doesn't keep a game alive
Its gives nothing
What keep live service games alive its people having interest in other stuff that isn't the game itself
If Concord its unable to make artist make fanart, I find really hard for it to stay alive, because I have a feeling people only will remember Concord for how little it lasted and the fastest speedrun to shutdown yet (more than the recent Platinum Games release under Square Enix, not referring to Nier Replicant, but their take on a multiplayer type of game that was so boring as this)
@@xXSoulGeoXx Yeah the thing is we're in an environment where decent shooting mechanics are the norm in the genre, at least as far as most people are concerned, so saying that it succeeds at that isn't really saying as much and definitely isnt going to sell games. From what I heard mechanically the things that differentiate it are actually not very fun or at the very least dont make the game more fun than it would be without ( like the aforementioned crew system and such) so Concord doesnt really have much to stand on on any front.
Character design and presentation is why guilty gear strive is still doing numbers to this day
I'll be honest, the character design gives off the feeling of 3 different people told to make a design for a character based on vague descriptions, and a 4th person smashing elements of all 3 designs into a single character.
Came for Concord getting power washed, stayed for the Arabian Sand Boa.
The problem with those Design is that most of them look like Warframe Enemies NPCs. You do not want to play a generic mass produced enemy, you want to play a character. That also why this game will be forgotten 2 years from now remenbered only as a Failure . I genuialy feel pain for those who had to models those characters
Like literally Daveers looks like a Corpus Soldier but with a see through helmet.

Apparently one dev was calling players "Talentless Hacks".
And I;m pretty sure he was one of the higher ups... so I blame him.
Its not just the suits, its the studio's leadership too. Theyve been very vocal on twitter and uhh... not polite.
17:30 I remember another person who works in character design saw her and thought she was a trash mob from a PvE mode.
Why didn't they add Arabian Sand Boa to the game? He would've been the best design by far.
*throws the "At least your tired" cake into the trash*
The developers actually wanted these designs even calling people talents for criticism on the character design
5:07 when I first saw this character, my mind immediately went, "She looks like a refrigerator from the 40's-50's" XD
"Fun" fact.
They canceled a Infamus X prototype game for THIS SHIT!!
“You did not cook, you microwaved” has to be THE funniest shit i’ve heard in a while and i am so using that line in the future 😂
Extra points if you do ALL THREE AT ONCE
Bazz: Honestly...lose the Jacket and the glasses and give her some long dreadlocks and we'd actually be moving in a positive direction.
It-Z: "We have Fifth Element at home." Meanwhile, the Fifth Element you have at home:
Roka: Well...at least I know where Emari's Helmet went...
Lark: To quote a friend: "I am a Monster Fucker and even I don't want to fuck that."
Kyps: "We have iRobot at home." Meanwhile, the iRobot you have at home:
Daw: This gives "Man in Basement" vibes. Like he needed a job for his parents to get off his back and just threw this on from a second hand cardboard box.
Teo: How do you take a soldier aesthetic...and make it lame? That should be impossible!
Jabali: Another instance of so close, yet COMPLETELY missing the mark at the last second
i love how rightfully genuinely angry you get after seeing some of the designs
I haven't really seen anyone say that some of these character designs having potential to be good, I am now wanting to see artists take these character designs and try to fix them and make them actually appealing.
I'd watch a video where Lily tried to redesign all these characters out of spite tbh
Just like with Starfield, sometimes the juice is not worth the squeeze. Modders gave up on that game because it would have taken them too much to make it good.
The same thing is likely how Concord will go. There's just not enough there for the creative juices to start roiling.
Replace "suits" with "management" and the video starts making sense
In fact, this is a clear cut case of management and project heads not following the original ideas the teams had and changing shit over and over again.
That snake can see the 4th dimension
"I hate how genderless they all are" right into the genderless character. The timing of that was pretty funny. Also, it definitely sucks that the game got headshot like that, here's hoping the devs, designers, artists, and team get to work on something new.
12:33 that's exactly it, a DEI game can't define people without "being offensive" its all amorphous blobs of body types hence why so much is so generic
the problems of this studio is deeply ingrained inside it not just higher ups, its an echo chamber company
"even an astronaut's outfit looks better!"
*Shoegazer Watched the Stars from No More Heroes 2 intensfies*
I wouldn’t give the devs too much credit. It came out recently that years ago when they had an alpha for this game it was on such a bad state that Sony payed another $200million to make the game playable.
Teo's design made me say "Oh, fuck this game!". He looks like a airsoft player.
I actually want Kinkymation to review the Deadlock character designs, as well!
Yeah specially with how the devs behave online, they’re genuinely acting like entitled children who never heard a “No” in their lives
@@mitab1 I’d say you hate to see it but… eh I’m not disappointed. Concord however isn’t going to be as big of a disgrace as Dustborn is.
@@Johan_the_Marshal i literally forgot dustborn exists lol
As a fellow artist, looking at these designs is like staring into an abyss.
The anger and ridicule in spanish is why i subscribed, it reminds me of my childhood😂
When people want to play a game simulating manual labor instead of even looking at your characters, you failed.
This doesnt even scream suit interference, this screams hr interference... I cant imagine even suits being this tone deaf.
Gonna copy paste my own comment from this stream:
Garbage bin robot: The design felt incomplete, and the arms felt wrong, the legs felt REALLY WRONG.
Big blue..... guy (thing?)..... with red head (just head that's red all over): This remind me of that Stormwatch comic book character design but Fuji look way more interesting than.... this..... blah. Also people who think he looks like the MAXX, dude, that's an insult for the MAXX.
Afro twin tail big shoulder..... person?: It's like watching a multiple car crash of design, concept and idea. Also your comment on idle animation just shows that deep down their mindset is typical suburban white women. I disagree with you about her shoes. They're awful as well. Also ironic that Garnet actually look more feminine and interesting.
Puprple haired budget Navi (I genuinely don't know what to call her so I just copy Kinkymation because the design is so ass): Also I genuinely feel empty watching her. It's so bland it's hurting my brain too. Also the green skin is like she never take shower so her skin is getting moldy
Sexy green leotard lady(?) with big helmet: It's like they're trying to horny bait but don't want to commit. Also the awkward idle animation killed the sexiness completely. Also that "Grandma give me candy" comment made me subscribe.
Grandma: What are you doing grandma, this is past your nap time. Also, are you using grandpa's grease gun again?
Sniper backward baseball cap lady: Another bland design and ugly colours. Also the puke green variant look like malnourished Teletubbies reject.
Robot(?) Woman(?) : "I(?) Don't(?) know(?) what(what) I(?) can't(?)
Token fat chi... guy?: I felt like they make this design to make a "Gotcha!" moment on people who think it's a woman and that's it. Then they proudly pat each other on the back.
Generic jock soldier with football body armor: This felt like it was designed to mock the typical jock type soldiers in video games and it was intended for people to ridicule the character. Joke's on them though.
400millon and how much playstation bought it for and the outsourcing most features in the game to other studios
Sorce: 5 different youtubers with different people who never interact
While this is a Concord video, showing Deadlock's Wraith looks incredible! Love the 20s gangster look!
Love the video as always it's awesome to hear your opinions of characthers desings i would love to see one of these but with ben 10 i know its never gonna happen but still i can dream anyways awesome video and have a nice day!
Kinky, if you want a good palate cleanser, might I recommend Battleborn?
@mrsupreme5316 Montana's " They should call me Man-tana" has been stuck in my head for years.
9:43 having a DKC theme playing in the background while looking at the alien gorilla man was bizarrely well-timed
21:25 holy crap, you know Happy Paradise
Now I’m trying to imagine what a roundtable discussion between yourself and the three other people whom I’ve watched analyze these designs would look and sound like…and how long it would go for before sailing into wonderful tangents about…well, anything else
6:20 Sweet innocent mind. Nah, the devs stood on business by their own words. They wanted all those to look like that.
Damn, I had no idea Kinkymation did anything outside of art stuffs. Definitely subbing
I liked the power wash at the end it gave me a chuckle
The best way I've seen someone describe these designs is NPCs. Which is an insult.....to NPCs. Mass Effect, a massive RPG with largely reused assets and characters, had way more memorable NPCs than these HEROES IN A HERO SHOOTER
