This may be the most underrated comedy I've ever witnessed. Also its nice to know as an American, my countrys not the only one full of goofball policy makers lol
Out of curiosity, how are you watching it in the USA? I'm so surprised that a TV show from here is being watched overseas. And yes, this is exactly what Australian government departments are like. I work for one... sigh.
Yes, if it's any reassurance, our government here, at all levels (fed, state, local), is full of incompetence, idiocy, stupid ideas and lots of announcements but nothing ever happening due to faffing about is something that both our great countries share. ❤
@@continental_drift I saw a Canadian guy mention it (he has a channel on public transport planning that I follow) and talk about how much he enjoys it. It might be on a streaming service available outside of Australia.
Not to forget: Rhonda's level of admin cluelessness is rich fodder for Tony's close encounter with his first HEART ATTACK, assuming he hasn't had several silent strokes prior to this! ❤😅
I get a few laughs from this show, but my overwhelming feeling (after the cringe has passed) -- is that it's soooooo depressing ... to know that outside of the satire, bureaucracies truly ard this horrible and corrupt (excepting Tony and Nat).
I’m from Canada, and I just discovered this show (before you ask, it just appeared because I was watching some Australian content) Let me just say, I was sad after The Office ended, and Steve said they won’t be coming back to do another season. And this show, Utopia satisfies my wish. I am glad this show exists. And I love Tony & Nat!!!
As a Yank, I have to say this show is friggin' brilliant. The Office meets Parks & Recs but better & smarter. I absolutely have to watch this show. This is the best I've seen on screen in years. I love it. Absolutely love it. ...sorry about Trump. The Feckless left did the best we could.
In my country, people like Tony will be replaced in a heartbeat 😢 It really is a utopia to have someone like him in the important position and stand the ground ❤
anyone who has worked in a corporation (business, hospital, etc.) can relate to one or many of the slapstick truths that occur rapid fire in this absolutely humorous series. Sure, some of the themes are repetitive, but they hammer home how worthwhile ventures and constructive endeavors can be bogged down by the cancer of policy, procedure, policing, and politics. A+++
They interviewed real public servants to ask them for examples of the kind of things they deal with and what goes on in a govt department. They will never run out of material.
And I thought that these were real people working for a real government? Seriously, I would love to be a fly on the wall when the private sector and government policy makers meet. As for our education, what education? No browny points here. Great send up. Thanks.

Yeah but specifically behind china has some cultural context in australia that means a lot of Australians will interpret any stats like that in a xenophobic way.
Need more Jim & Rhonda in your life? 😅
All Utopia seasons now streaming on:
Stan: bit.ly/UtopiaStan
Netflix: bit.ly/UtopiaNetflix
Kitty and Lehmo nail this. So good at really really being annoying. Rob and Celia always battling.
Rhonda is so real.... Please more Carsten!!!
Bring back Amy and where is Hugh?
Jim and Rhonda being middle men for the government is the reason why they’re fantastic characters
“Middle men” is an exclusionary, offensive, patriarchal turn of phrase. Very problematic.
/s
Not really, they’re middle management, ergo.... middle men
You might say their... Hollow men...
The dialog writing is razor sharp! :D Tony: "What part of that is hypothetical?", Jim: "The confident bit" :D :D pure gold!!
Razor Sharp? It must be a bloody blunt razor.

Great stuff! Tony’s level of patience is only exceeded by his level of honesty.
Not to forget: Rhonda's level of admin cluelessness is rich fodder for Tony's close encounter with his first HEART ATTACK, assuming he hasn't had several silent strokes prior to this! ❤😅
This series feels like an Australian spiritual successor to yes minister. It's absolutely brilliant.
Yeah I been looking for such a successor for long time!!!
What part of that is hypothetical?
The confident bit 😂
Tony has the vibe of The Last Sane Man in Town.. 😂
I've literally watched each episode over 10x. And every time I catch a new subtle joke. This show really grew on me.
“I’ll make a call”
The spiritual successor to Yes, Minister.
When the fake ad came on, I thought it was a real ad.
Because that's what all ads are ;-)
"FART!" Perfection!! 😂
You come up with the acronym first, and build the policies and spend the money around them
Going to have to watch this now. I’ve watched 5 clips in a row and they’ve all had me grinning from ear to ear. 😂
😂 Jim "the confident" 3:12
Gold. And basically factual recreation of real events
I fr can’t stop watching this 😂
This is hilarious. It's the perfect mix of The Office and Yes Minister.
Thank you God.
Rhonda is still in the team.
Rhonda... you are AWESOME
LOVE the 3 of you🎉
‘Shall we start in the middle?’ Wow 😂
Guys, it's not fair to be teased with this show all-around if it's not available in my country
This is how Queensland Health works 😂
The best show EVER....can't wait for another season...the government gives us so much fodder
Every government ad should include the licinda handwriting font.
This is like 'the Thick of It" without the swearing
I get a few laughs from this show, but my overwhelming feeling (after the cringe has passed) -- is that it's soooooo depressing ... to know that outside of the satire, bureaucracies truly ard this horrible and corrupt (excepting Tony and Nat).
That guy is amazing.

Meets Yes Minister. Sorry to hear of your disability.
Hang in there, mate!!
Oh fuck off, he was the one president who did the most to cut through this type of government bullshit. He is the best president we've had in decades!
That includes weaponising your justice system. Enjoy that can of worms.
Double thumbs up writing and ASO accuracy! 😱
In my country, people like Tony will be replaced in a heartbeat 😢
It really is a utopia to have someone like him in the important position and stand the ground ❤
Wonderful
I'm a Rhonda and I approve of this Rhonda.
I want to be this Rhonda.
Every organisation both needs it's Rhonda's and needs them all removed
Is that hypothetical ?
We should have a show like that in Canada 😂😂
You do! It's called "CANADA!!"
@@pashaveres4629 You probably have us confused with the genocidal country that the USA is
We have found out 😂😂😂😢... Time to be clear and decisive.

Duress alarm!
They have a book that is just a cover and nothing inside
yes but the page thickness is wonderful
feel the weight! The texture!
Too real,
But
Funny.
Thank you.
It’s not real. If Tony took a voluntary redundancy and Nat left for private industry then it would be real.
Love Rhonda 😂🤣
So glad I found this... Fucking brilliant!
I swear this is the "office dialogues" I have ever seen in real life... hold on these characters are fake?!... Yeah right...
They interviewed real public servants to ask them for examples of the kind of things they deal with and what goes on in a govt department. They will never run out of material.
So close to how real government works.
I'm pretty sure Tony is going to kill one of them or both by the end of the series.
Season 2: Bad Tony
Mentally it's up to around 5k deaths
This is so depressing. I’m afraid it’s a documentary rather than satire. It reminds me of Veep.
New fave show... Veep meats The office!!
Rob and Kitty ❤❤
Does Kitty Flanagan wear a wig? Or spend hours straightening her hair? I'm curious every time I see her as Rhonda
It’s Helen Tudor-Fisk!
Namaste 😎
Love carstin
And I thought that these were real people working for a real government? Seriously, I would love to be a fly on the wall when the private sector and government policy makers meet. As for our education, what education? No browny points here. Great send up. Thanks.
I hate Rhonda... I love the range of Kitty Flanagan! Meryl should be taking notes!
Deny, dispute, delay. 😬
As PAINFULLY ACCURATE as The Thick of It.
It's only failure is not being even more thoughtless and evil in avoiding accountability by Talking Heads.
Share here if you have been a patient
The scary thing is what you see in this comedy is what real life governments do every day!
F.a.r.t for those outaide aus - to break wind
I think everybody in the English speaking world knows what a fucken fart is mate. It's not Aussie slang. It's from old English. It's probably about 1000 years old as word go.
Old English (recorded in the verbal noun feorting ‘farting’) of Germanic origin; related to German farzen, furzen .
Rhonda is the only lady I would take orders from.
If anyone in Govt continues to operate like this, sack them.
Not possible. There'd be no employees left!
It's been a while now that the lunatics have run the asylum.
I'll run it past a focus group.
Funny to watch until you work with them
😂😂😂
Too much like my work.
Falling behind another country isn’t xenophobic. It’s recognition that you are in a competition and you need to improve yourself.
It is xenophobia if the country you are falling behind is one full of people "not like you" and that your politicans are currently ginning up as a big scary threat - ie currently China. It will be someone else another day.
